F.E. Strimple
Francis Elliot Strimple was born in Lawrenceville, Illinois, December 20, 1864, and passed away October 28, 1957, at the age of 92 years 10 months and 8 days. He was the son of Paul and Louisa Strimple and as a child came to Kansas with his family in a covered wagon in 1870 and located on a farm five miles west of Rossville in Shawnee County.
In 1880 the Strimple family moved [to] a farm near Neale, Kansas, in Greenwood County where he met Clara Strausbaugh and on May 6, 1886, they were married. To this union, nine children were born, all in Greenwood County, except the daughter Georgana who was born in Durango, Colorado. They were there four years from 1890 to 1894. Frank then brought his family back to Greenwood County and resided there until 1908. In 1908 the family then moved to Wilson, Kansas in Ellsworth County for four years. In 1912 the family with two married daughters moved back to Rossville where his home remained until his death.
Mr. Strimple taught school for over 50 years in Greenwood, Ellsworth, Jackson, and Shawnee counties. He was united with the Methodist Church here in Rossville in 1933. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for over 50 years and belonged to the Silver Lake chapter since 1914. He was the last surviving member of his family since his brother Eugene passed away a year ago last spring.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Strimple, to whom he had been married 71 years; three sons, Clyde and Guy of Rossville; and Orville E. Strimple, Topeka; five daughters, Mrs. Eva DeGraff and Mrs. Frances Stockton, both of Topeka; Mrs. Georgana Wares, Woodward, Okla.; Mrs. Clara DeGraff, Albany, Oregon; and Mrs. Jessie Burton, Princeton, Minn.; 24 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death four years ago by his daughter, Mrs. Louise Brock.
