James M. Brian
ROSSVILLE—James M. Brian, 87, Rossville, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at a Rossville nursing home.
He was born Feb. 4, 1914, in Arriba, Colo., to Benjamin B. and Effie Norman Brian, He spent his early life in Colorado and lived in New Mexico before he moved to Oklahoma. He moved to Havensville in 1948 and was a farmer and electri¬cian. He then lived in Topeka for several years and then in Meriden for 28 years. He worked for Ed Marling stores in Topeka and for Kansas State Uni¬versity in Manhattan.
He was a maintenance supervisor at Perry State Park and later worked at Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka before he retired in 1979. He lived in the Rossville community since 1987.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion, both in Rossville.
He married Cornelia R. Winfough on Oct. 8, 1941, in Beaver County, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include sons, James H. Brian, Rossville, and Chris E, Brian, Topeka; a daughter, Lanell Nettles, Corpus Christi, Texas; brothers, Lawrence Brian, Arvada, Colo., Evan Brian, Cortez, Colo., and Wallace Brian, Loveland, Colo.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Rossville. Burial will be in Havensville Cemetery. Mr. Brian will lie in state from.3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
