Obituary- Sumner, Josephine 2

Mrs. Josephine M. Sumner, 70,
Mayetta, died Tuesday, Sept. 8,
1987, at a Topeka hospital.

Mrs. Sumner had operated a
restaurant in Louisville nine years. She later lived in Eskridge several years and spent most of the rest of her life in the Delia area.

She was born Dec. 31, 1916, at Mayetta, the daughter of Sam and Katherine Gabby Rice.

Mrs. Sumner was a member of the Prairie Band of Potawatomi Indian Tribe.

She was married to Cleve N. Sumner June 21, 1934, at Holton He died May 21, 1963.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Maxine Catron, Mayetta, Mrs. Delores Porter, Topeka, Mrs. Janice Rafols, Kansas City, Kan., and Mrs. Helen Cornelius, Tecumseh; a son, Lester Sumner, Hoyt; two brothers, Philip Jessepe, Delia, and Lester Jessepe, Topeka; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial was to be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at Mayetta. Burial was to be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, St; Marys. Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
