Obituary- Thompson, Vena 2
Vena Mae Thompson
Vena Mae Thompson, 87, of Rossville, passed away July 3, 2012, at the Rossville Health and Rehab Center with her granddaughter and great-granddaughter by her side. She was born Feb. 5,1925, at Rossville, the daughter of Dewey and Florence Higgins Countryman.
Vena was a 1943 graduate of Rossville High School and was the senior class president. She had lived most of her life in the Delia community. Vena was a homemaker and raised Limousin-Angus cattle until she was 80. She worked for the Jackson County Water District 2 for over 30 years. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, dancing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vena was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church and participated in their quilting group.
She married Christopher Donald Thompson on Sept. 11,1945. He preceded her in death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Janet Mulanax, son-in-law, Irvan Mulanax, and son, Donald Ray Thompson.
Survivors include grandchildren, Gary Mulanax of Hoyt, Janie Quiett of Delia, Brian Thompson of Rossville and Chris Mulanax of San Francisco, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Chelsey Quiett, Jeffrey Lyda, Zachary Quiett, Jaycob Mulanax, Dalton Quimby, Madison Mulanax, Samantha Thompson, Wyatt Lickteig, Alyssa Thompson, Hunter Quiett, Jenna Thompson and Jessica Thompson; a great-great-granddaughter, Ava Quimby.
The funeral was July 7 at the Delia Presbyterian Church. Interment followed in Adrian Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, Delia Presbyterian Church or Grace Hospice and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 W. Maple, St. Marys, KS 66536.
