Eleanor Thompson
Eleanor M. Thompson, 95, Rossville, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Rossville Valley Manor where she had lived the past 13 years.
She was born January 12,1907, in Delia, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Cantor Simecka.
She lived all of her life in the Delia and Rossville communities. She was reared in the Delia community and was graduated from Delia High School in 1925. She was a dietician for the Delia Grade School for many years and had also been a cook at the St. Marys Manor. She served as the Delia City Treasurer and worked on the election board for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Delia.
On September 29, 1928, she married Curtis Alfred Thompson. He died July 12, 1961. A grandson, Dennis Holcomb, died March 25, 1996. She was also preceded in death by sisters Loretta Dodds and Leona Paulini, and brothers Art Simecka, Raphael Simecka, and Leo Simecka.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin Thompson and Nels Thompson, both of Topeka; three daughters, Arlene Looker, Topeka, Vivian Bartello, Morro Bay, CA, and Neysa Porter, Mason, NH; a brother, Ben Simecka, Silver Lake; a sister, Josephine Constant, Topeka; 16 grandchildren; four step- grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Her service wass at 10 a.m. Monday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. There was a prayer service at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Valley Manor and sent in care of the funeral home.
Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys was in charge of arrangements.
