Guy O. Thompson, Jr.
Guy O. Thompson, Jr. 71, rural Topeka, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at his rural Topeka home.

He was born July 13, 1927, in Baxter Springs, the son of Guy O., Sr. and Bessie Marshall Thompson. He had lived in rural Topeka since July 1981.

He grew up in Baxter Springs; Shreveport, LA; and Richmond, CA. He was graduated from a Richmond high school. He attended Pittsburg Teacher College in Pittsburg, KS and Manhattan Bible College in Manhattan.

He had served in the United States Army during World War II. He had worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years in Kansas City, Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI, Amarello, TX, and Topeka. He retired from the Treasury Department of Santa Fe Railroad in 1986. He had worked several years for Amtrack.

Mr. Thompson was a member of the Rossville Christian Church and a past member of the Berry Christian Church in North Kansas City, MO. He served on the Gashland Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Rising Sun Lodge #13 in Kansas City North. He was a member of the Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville. He was a member of the Shawnee County Fire District No. 4 at Dover, where he served as fire chief for several years.

He was married to Gloria Campbell August 26,1949, at Ottawa. She died May 26, 1996. A granddaughter, Catie Thompson, also preceded him in death July 5, 1981.

Surviving him are a daughter, Charlene Bolinger, Pittsburg; three sons, E. Lee Thompson, Salt Lake City, UT, Ron Thompson, Blue Springs, MO, and Jeff Thompson, Memphis, TN; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A family visitation will be from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Tuesday (this evening) at Piper- Verschelden Funeral Home. His service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Rossville Christian Church. Interment will be in the Rossville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Christian Church, or SCFD #4, Dover, and sent in care of the funeral home.
