Obituary- Thompson, Guy 2

Guy O. Thompson Jr.
Guy O. Thompson Jr., 71, Route 8, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at his home just west of Topeka.

He was born July 13,1927, in Baxter Springs, to Guy O. and Bessie Marshall Thompson. He spent his early life in Baxter Springs, Shreveport, La., arid Richmond, Calif., and graduated from Richmond High School. He attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg and Manhattan Bible College.

He served in the Army during World War II. He worked many years for Santa Fe Railway in Kansas City, Chicago, Detroit, Mich., Amarillo, Texas, and Topeka, and worked several years for Amtrak. He worked for the U.S. Treasury Department before he retired in 1986.

He was a member of Shawnee County Fire District No. 4 in Dover where he served for several years as fire chief. While in Kansas City, he had served on the Gashland Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a member of the Christian Church in Rossville and a former member of Barry Christian Church in North Kansas City. He was a member of Rising Sun Lodge No. 13, AF&AM, in North Kansas City and Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville.

He and Gloria Campbell were married Aug. 26, 1949, in Ottawa. She died May 26, 1996 A granddaughter, Catie Thompson, died July 5, 1981.

Survivors include sons, E. Lee Thompson, Salt Lake City, Ron Thompson, Blue Springs, Mo., and Jeff Thompson, Memphis; a daughter, Charlene Bolinger, Pittsburg; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a m. Wednesday at the Christian Church in Rossville. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Thompson will lie in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home ni St. Marys where visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Church in Rossville or to Shawnee County Fire District No. 4 and sent in care of the funeral home.
