James I. Tolbert
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairlawn Heights Wesleyan Church for James I. “Jim” Tolbert, 47, Topeka. He was killed Saturday, May 9,
1987, when the small, single-engine plane he was a passenger in crashed in a field about 3 1/2 miles northeast of Delia.
From 1957 to 1965, Mr. Tolbert worked in and managed Brownie’s Service Station in Topeka and from 1965 to 1967 he was a salesman for the W.L. High Insurance Agency. From 1967 to 1969 Mr. Tolbert was a policy examiner for the State of Kansas Insurance Department and from 1969 to 1978 he was a buyer for the State Division of Purchases.
He was the Director of Purchases in the Division of Purchases from June 1978 to September 1982 and from October 1982 to. November 1983 he was employed again at the W.L. High Insurance Agency.
From January 1984 to January 1985 Mr. Tolbert was a manager for the International Bridge and Corp struction/Micronesia, Inc., at Kolonia, Pohnpei, Eastern Caroline Islands. From January 1985 to May 1985 he was a consultant under a personal services contract under the State of Truk, Micronesia, Eastern Caroline Islands.
