Obituary- Van Vleck, Frank H.

Frank Van Vleck over 80 years of age, was the victim, Sunday night, of a serious accident. After retiring he was aroused by the thunder and rain and in getting out of bed fell fracturing his left hip. He was alone at the time and unable to arouse the neighbors until several hours later, causing him to be exposed to the chill of the night. Dr. C.S. Smith was called and administered. Monday morning he was taken to Christ’s hospital at Topeka.


FRANK H. VAN VLECK
Frank H. Van Vleck was born in Monroe County, New York, October 2, 1855. He passed away in a Topeka hospital, October 12, 1935, at the age of 80 years, and 19 days.

At an early age he removed to Illinois with his parents, where he spent about 20 years. He came to Kansas in 1878 and settled near Rossville. During the years since then he has been engaged in farming in this community, until a year and a half ago when he moved into Rossville.

In 1879 he was united in marriage to Olivia Kirkpatrick. She passed away many years ago.

Surviving relatives include a daughter. Mrs. Lois McConnell of Rossville; seven sons, Arthur and Clarence of Topeka; Mahlon, Harry and Florin of Kansas City, Mo.; Henry of Redlands, California; and Gerald of the home; one brother, C.E. Van Vleck of Great Bend; one sister, Mrs. R.A. Shipley of Rossville; 22 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon in charge of Rev. Horton. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet, composed of A.D. Jackman, Mrs. William Hesse, Mrs. E.E. Witter and A.A. Cless, with Miss Edith Higginbotham at the piano. Pall bearers were Frank Page, Emil Kovar, Frank Wood, John Rouse, F.E. Zickefoose and M.L. Whearty.
Burial was in the Rossville cemetery.


Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Van Vleck and son Glenn of Topeka were in Rossville Tuesday to attend the funeral of his father, Frank Van Vleck at the Methodist church.
