MRS. NEWTON BROOKS DIED TUESDAY NIGHT
Word came to the parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.S. McElvain, Tuesday evening of the death of Mrs. Mary Brooks, wife of N. E. Brooks at their home in Surphur Springs, Okla. She passed away Tuesday evening at 8:30 after several months of illness.
Her death was not entirely unexpected by the parents, who had received a telegram last Saturday telling of a serious relapse in her condition. Mr. Alfred McElvain, of St. Marys, brother of Mrs. Brooks went to Sulphur Springs Sunday, so soon as he could leave from his work at the St. Marys railroad station.
The deceased lady was reared in this community. She was born here September 5, 1876 and lived here until after her marriage to Mr. Brooks September 21, 1897. A few years later they removed to Oklahoma.
For several years they resided at Wanette, where one of their children died in infancy. Lyle, another of the children died since their residence at Sulphur Springs. Besides the husband, five children remain to mourn her loss. They are, Glen, Elvyan, Jack, Mary Josephine and Dorothey. Other surviving relatives are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. S. McElvain, of Rossville, one brother, Mr. Alfred McElvain, of St. Marys, and two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Cless and Mrs. Ethel Kulper, of Denver, Colo.
The Funeral was held today and interment made in the Ringling, Okla. Cemetery.
