Andrew Joseph Vaughn

Andrew Joseph Vaughn, 71, Wakarusa, died Sunday, June 4, 1989, at a Kansas City, Mo., hospital.

Mr. Vaughn was a sheetmetal worker and pipefitter for Santa Fe Railway.

He served in the Marines two years during World War II, and 18 months during the Korean conflict.

He was born April 17, 1918, at Delia, the son of Timothy and Mary Elizabeth Failer Vaughn. He spent most of his life in the Topeka area.

Mr. Vaughn was a member of the Catholic Church, and Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was instrumental in initiating the Auburn Softball Association. and received an award for many years of dedication, to the association.

He was married to Eva Day in Emporia. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Andrew J. Vaughn Jr., Sterling Heights, Mich., and Joseph Vaughn, Mound City; five daughters, Paula Larsen, Auburn, Bonnie Vaughn and Mary Palenske, both of Wakarusa, Mona Kellison, Americus, and Lauree Edgar, Topeka; a brother, Robert G. McNeive, Camdenton, Mo.; a sister, Kathryn Sells, Topeka; and 18 grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brennan Funeral Home. Burial will be in Simmerwell Cemetery northwest of Wakarusa. Mr. Vaughn will lie in state after noon Tuesday at the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Citizens of Auburn, or the Auburn Softball Association.
