Obituary- Wabaunsee, Freda 2

Wabaunsee
Mrs. Freda J. Wabaunsee, 61, Delia, died Monday, July 7, at a Topeka hospital.

She was born May 29, 1925, at Mayetta, the daughter of Charles and Anna Cook Nozhackum, and spent her life in the Delia and Mayetta communities.

Mrs. Wabaunsee was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Indian tribe and Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church on the Potawatomi Reservation west of Mayetta.

She was married to Llewellyn “Lou” Wabaunsee Jan. 27, 1946, at Mayetta. He survives. A daughter, Louella “Henry” Wabaunsee, died July 20, 1968, and a son, Fred Wabaunsee, died June 29, 1985.

Other survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Mary Lopez, Delia, Winifred Wabaunsee, Las Vegas, Nev., Marcia Wabaunsee, Topeka, Mrs. Lois Dominguez, Wichita, and Frances Wabaunsee, Cloquet, Minn.; two sons, Richard Wabaunsee, Delia, and Ralph Wabaunsee, Topeka; three sisters, Mrs. Marcella Hernandez and Mrs. Maxine Ramirez, both of Mayetta, and Mrs. Charlene Padella, Sabetha; a brother, Chris Puckee, Las Vegas, Nev.; 18 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Mass of Christian burial was to be at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 1986 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta. Burial was to be in Ship Shee Catholic Cemetery on the Potawatomi Indian Reservation west of Mayetta. Mercer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

A rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Old Potawatomi Community Building a half of a mile West of Mayetta. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton was in charge of arrangements.
