Melvin Wesley Whittington
Melvin Wesley Whittington was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, April 4, 1910, and passed away at North Platte, Nebraska, November 26, 1935, at the age of 25 years, 7 months and 22 days.

He had been employed at the Levi Anderson Auto Service as a mechanic. He injured his left wrist which developed into blood poisoning. He was practically over the blood poisoning and the physician had permitted him to return to his work. After one and a half days he became ill with pleuresy which later developed into double pneumonia, but his system being so run down by the blood poisoning he had no resistence [sic] and his heart was too weak to carry the load.

At the time of his death he was making his home with his sister, Mrs. Marie Scoun.

When Melvin was 8 years old he moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Whittington to Casper, Wyoming where his father was employed as locomotive engineer for the Burlington railroad. They resided there until the year of 1926, when they moved to Independence, Kansas, locating on a farm 13 miles southwest of Independence. They remained there until the year 1929 when they moved to Rossville, locating on a farm where they now live. Melvin made his home with his parents until August 11, 1935, when he struck out in the world to seek a career for himself. He located in North Platte, Neb., where he was employed at the time of his death.

Melvin was a very ambitious young man, kind and loving to all who knew him. Since going to North Platte he had been baptized into the Episcopal church of Our Savior. Melvin attended school at Casper, Wyo.

Funeral services were held in Rossville, Thursday, Nov. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church Reverend Wright Horton officiated, and the body was laid to rest in the Rossville cemetery. The pallbearers were Osie Huhs, Ed Arnold, Huck Raines, Delbert Weir of Maple Hill, and Earl Doty and Glen Davis of Rossville.

Melvin leaves to mourn his going his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Whittington, and four sisters, Mrs. Freda Smith of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Leah Berry of Rossville, Mrs. Marie Scoun and Miss Frances Whittington of North Platte, Neb. besides a host of other relatives and friends, by whom he will be sadly missed.

We wish to express our heart-felt thanks to the many dear friends and neighbors who so faithfully assisted us in our sad bereavement, the loss of our darling son and brother, Melvin; also for the comforting words of the Reverend Horton, the ladies who sang and for the beautiful floral offerings.
