Obituary- Willits, Donald
Donald L. “Jack” Willits
Services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church in McLouth for Donald L. “Jack” Willits, 68, Lawrence. He died Wednesday, July 9, 1997, at a Lawrence hospital.
Mr. Willits worked for Poehler Mercantile for one year and then worked at National Alfalfa Milling and Dehydrating Company several years before and after the Korean War. He later worked for FMC from 1963 until he retired May 1, 1996. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
He was born June 20, 1929, in McLouth the son of John Franklin and Dorothy May Martin Willits. He attended McLouth schools and graduated from McLouth High School in 1947.
Mr. Willits was a member of Alford-Clark Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the M-Kan Family Chapter.
He was married to Barbara Jo Ambler on July 9, 1956. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Dean A. Willits, McLouth, John Willits, Lawrence, and Donald A. Bahnmaier, Perry; two daughters, Cheryl Spencer and Kimberly O’Bryon, both of Lawrence; his mother, Dorothy Willits, McLouth; three brothers, Allan Willits and Kenneth Willits, both of McLouth, and Donald E. Willits, Rossville; a sister, Shirley Thiry, Lawrence; and 11 grandchildren.
Mr. Willits was preceded in death by a son, Shannon Russell Willits, in 1977.
Burial was in McLouth Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church in McLouth and sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence.
