Obituary- Witter, Elmer 2

Elmer E. Witter
Elmer E. Witter was born in Indiana near College Corner, Ohio April 22nd. 1870. He passed away at his home in Rossville unexpectedly Sunday evening, November 19, 1933 at the age of 63 years, 6 months and 27 days.

When about 20 years of age, he came to Kansas, at the invitation of an aunt, and decided to make his home here. On September 15th 1902, he was united in marriage to Margaret Vandemeak at Silver Lake. They soon moved to his farm east of Silver Lake, which was their home until 1920. At that time he sold the farm and retired, moving to Rossville, where they have resided since.

Mr. Witter was the fifth in a family of ten children, only one of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife and by five brothers and three sisters, most of whom live near the old home in Indiana.

Through the long years of his residence here, Mr. Witter has made a name for himself as a friend and neighbor. The quality of his life and character was above reproach, and he often found ways of being helpful and friendly in a quiet way, without seeking or desiring publicity.

Funeral services were held at the Rossville Methodist church, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, in charge of Rev. Horton. Music was furnished by Mrs. Alden Goodnow and Mrs. Clinton Shafer of Silver Lake with Miss Nina Hook of Silver Lake at the piano.

Acting pallbearers were Frank Page, C. E. Gresser, Clinton Shafer, L. O. Parr, George Bickelhaupt, and John Luthye.

Interment was made in Memorial Park cemetery at Topeka.

VanOrsdol and Glen VanOrsdol, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Lynn, Charles and Donna, all of Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. A. E. White of Manhattan.
