Obituary- Wilt, Robert 1
Robert Wilt
A 31-year old Mayetta man Wednesday said he was driving a tractor near the site of an accident Tuesday evening, December 2, 1975, which resulted in the death of Robert Wilt, 30, Rossville, Shawnee County authorities said.
Wilt died about noon Wednesday at Stormont-Vail Hospital of injuries he suffered at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday when his gasoline tanker truck overturned on the Rossville-Delia road about one-half mile north of Rossville.
Authorities said Wilt was southbound when he came upon a southbound tractor without lights. He swerved to the left and the truck overturned, authorities reported.
Patrolman Bill Workman, one of the officers who investigated the accident, said the driver of the tractor was not at the scene when officers arrived.
"He (the driver) came into the Sheriff's Department and gave us a statement Wednesday evening," said Workman.
Workman said the man was driving the tractor into Rossville to have repair work done.
Wilt was born December 22, 1944, at Rossville and spent most of his life in the Rossville community. He was a bulk distributor of Mobil Oil products.
Mr. Wilt was a member of the United Methodist Church and Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion, both at Rossville. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and the National Rifle Association.
He was married to Delores E. Berberich on November 15, 1968, at Council Grove. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Tracy LeAnn Wilt, at home; his father, Mr. Roy Wilt, Rossville; his mother, Mrs. Helen Kampschroeder, Lawrence; a sister, Mrs. Lynda Wood, Nashville, Tenn.; and a grandmother, Mrs. Rozella Jeffries, Silver Lake.
Services were at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Rossville United Methodist Church under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery. Military graveside services were conducted by Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion of Rossville. Casket bearers were Walt Burdett, Tom Clark, Bob Richard, Earl McDiffett, Bob Immenschuh and DeVere Miller.
