Birthday- Keller, Lindsay 1

Lindsay Keller Will Celebrate 100th Birthday

Lindsay "Lin" Keller, Rossville, was born December 19, 1890. He is the last leaf on his family tree of eight children.
His children ask that you celebrate with him by sending cards. Please print names large and plain.
The following poem is dedicated by his children: Philip and Vernon Keller, Wanda Parr, Naomi Sumner, and Geneva Fairbanks, who believe it to be his philosophy on life:
How Do You Count Life's Worth?
By some men's standards, I am poor. I count life's worth in a dif¬ferent way. Not for me, — gold, or priceless jewels, or paintings rare, or mountains, or furs; or vintage cars; yet, I am rich!
I have walked in the mystery of a foggy morning when the familiar seems unknown. And, in the October woods when the trees are painted red and gold.
I have felt the caress of the first snow flake in the silence of winter, and enjoyed the warmth of a crackling fire and a mug of cocoa shared with a friend.
I have lain beneath a star-spangled sky while a lion, the hunter, stalks the heavens, and stopped beside a wooded stream watching the water sweep and swirl over studded stones.
I have seen a sea of daffodils wind-tossed into a golden frenzy; smelled the heavy scent of honeysuckle in a sunlit meadow; and marveled at the dainty perfection of a ladyslipper, deep in a hidden forest.
I have hear the lonesome call of a whippoorwill at dusk, and the joyous doxology of a mocking bird at dawn.
I have seen a newborn colt take its first wobbly steps across a dew-soaked meadow; felt the wet kisses of a puppy, and heard the rumble of a kitten's contented purr.
I have known the pride of a parent's eyes and the concerned touch of a friend.
I have seen a rainbow arch across a rain-swept sky and breathed the heavy scent of an April shower.
I have stood on a silent cow path and heard the still small voice of God.
And that is what real wealth is!
Author unknown.
Dad was once heard to say: "This is all you'll ever need to have a good life — Wash what is dirty; water what is dry; heal what is wounded; warm what is cold; guide what goes off the road. Love people who are least lovable, because they need it most."
