Obituary- Artzer, Bonita 2

Bonita “Bonnie” Artzer, 75, Topeka, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Bonnie was born July 18, 1940, in Topeka, the daughter of Russell and Gladys (Sisco) Hollenbeck. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1958/ Bonnie received an Associate’s Degree from Washburn University. She was married on January 17, 1960, to Clarence “Butch” Artzer. They enjoyed 55 years together. Bonnie worked as an administrator for the Topeka Fire Department for 35 years until her retirement in 2006. She also was coordinator for the Topeka District Disaster Response for many years. Following her retirement, Bonnie worked at the gift shop of the Mulvane Art Museum. Throughout her life she volunteered at many organizations in Topeka.

Bonnie enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, scrapbooking and traveling, especially to Branson. She had a passion for classic cars and was a member of the Flint Hills Touring “A”, Fort Worth Model A Club and the CHVA. Bonnie was also a member of the Lowman United Methodist Church. Bonnie was extremely generous and giving. She had a passion for life and lived it to the fullest. Bonnie’s greatest love in her life was her family and she was loved and treasured by them. Her presence will be greatly missed.

Grateful for sharing her life is her husband, Clarence “Butch” Artzer, children, Becky Mickey (Lynn), Topeka, Amy Cheek (Rick), California, Dan Artzer (his fiancée, Susie Tripp), Topeka, five grandsons, Joshua Mabry, Kevin Fultz, Jacob Mickey and Zachary Artzer, one great-granddaughter, Kenzi Artzer, sister, Rowena Gannon, Rossville and numerous nieces and nephews. Bonnie was precede in death by her parents and five siblings.

A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 7th at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
