Dorothy O. Burton
Dorothy Ozell Littrell Smith Burton, 81, Silver Lake, died Monday morning, May 15, 1995, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. She was born June 15, 1913, at Liberty, KS, the daughter of Jack Osbie and Winifred Olford Gilpin. She had lived at Blue Mound from 1945 to 1964, and at Iola before moving to Silver Lake in May 1970.
Mrs. Burton had graduated from nursing school at Chanute. She was an L.P.N. and a Psychiatric Technician and had worked at several Topeka hospitals and nursing homes. She was retired from the Menninger Foundation.
She was member of the auxiliary to Jimmie Lillard Post #31 of the American Legion at Rossville.
She was married to James W.L. Littrell, Sr. in 1934 at Fort Sill, Okla. He died November 23, 1944. She was married to Robert Smith in 1947. They were later divorced. She was married to Willard J. Burton April 23, 1965, at Miami, Okla. He survives.
Other survivors include three sons, James W. Littrell, Louisburg, Charles E. Littrell, Warrensburg, Mo., and Bobby Geane, Rolling Stone, Minn.; three daughters, Nalda Jean Bergeron, Bangor, Maine, Patricia Joanne Smethers, Gardner, and Wynonna Kay McQuay, Osawatomie; a brother, Max Gilpin; 27 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka. Her funeral service was 10:00 Thursday at the mortuary. Graveside service and interment were Thursday afternoon at Pleasant View Cemetery, Blue Mound in Linn County.
