Irene M. Davis
ROSSVILLE -- Irene M. Davis, 83, Rossville, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 1996, at a Rossville nursing home.
Mrs. Davis had taught school several years and then went to work for Luce Press Clippings in Topeka. She later was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Rossville until she retired. She and her husband farmed in the Rossville area for many years.
She was born Sept. 22, 1912, at St. Clere, the daughter of Roy and Agnes Rezac Lasswell. She was graduated from Emmett High School and attended Kansas State Agricultural College at Manhattan. She was a long-time Rossville resident.
Mrs. Davis was a member of Loyal Chapter No. 176 of the Order of the Eastern Star at Silver Lake, Rossville Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and she was a 4-H leader in Rossville for many years.
She married Marvin D. Davis on May 17, 1936, at Topeka. He died Sept. 14, 1991.
Survivors include three sons, Roy D. Davis and Gene L. Davis, both of Rossville, and Dean L. Davis, Maple Hill; a sister, Lottie Lucas, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home at St. Marys. Burial will be at the Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Davis will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Presbyterian Church or to the Rossville First Responders and sent in care of the funeral home.
