Obituary- Higginbotham, Cyrus H.

Cyrus Higginbotham at Rest
Cyrus Higginbotham, who died early Sunday morning in a Tope-ka hospital, following an opera¬tion performed a week previous, was laid to rest Tuesday after¬noon in the Rossville cemetery. The funeral services were held at the home conducted by the Rev. H.L. Nelson, of Topeka. The service was attended by a large number of sorrowing friends of the family who had known Cyrus from childhood and the genuine sympathy shown has been very comforting to the bereaved father sister and brother.
Cyrus was an exemplary [sic] boy and his quiet and equitable dis¬position won him friends where ever he went. From his childhood he had been a home loving boy and it was not until August of last year he severed home ties and struck out for himself to enter business in a strange com¬munity.
He was born in Rossville, Feb. 8, 1887 and had just passed his 32nd year February of this year. He graduated from Rossville schools in 1904 and was president of his class. Later he attended Washburn academy and graduated with highest honors of his class. Here he was active in athletics and captained his college baseball team. After finishing at Washburn he completed the full course in Strickler’s business col¬lege.
Returning home he engaged in farming and stock raising until August 1918 when he sold his interests and went to Denton, Montana, and engaged in the real estate, loan and insurance busi¬ness.
Cyrus was full of patriotism and during the war made three unsuccessful attempts to enlist, being rejected because of vericose veins. He wanted always to do his share of any task to be per¬formed and his cheerful disposi¬tion was only one of his many lovable traits.
Early in life he united with the Presbyterian church and endeavored always to live a Christian life.
Beside his father, sister and brother his departure is sincerely mourned by his lifetime com¬panions and a large circle of friends in this community.
