Obituary- Carter, Allen

LAWRENCE -- Allen C. Carter, 73, Lawrence, died Thurs., Dec. 26, 1996, at his home. Mr. Carter was a powerhouse engineer for the State of Kansas for 27 years before he retired in 1988. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was born Nov. 20, 1923, at Superior, Neb., the son of Otis and Mary O. Ralston Carter.
Mr. Carter was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Lawrence and Jayhawk Chapter No. 22 of Disabled American Veterans where he was past commander. He was married to Leanna M. Strimple on July 14, 1946 at Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Diana Owens, Lawrence, and Christine McKelvey, Chanute, two brothers, Robert L. Carter, Eudora, and Roy L. Carter, Topeka;; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Carter, in March 1947. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church in Lawrence. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Rossville Cemetery in Rossville. Mr. carter will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence where relative and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church or to the the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association and sent in care of the mortuary.
