Obituary- Brazzle, Walter C.
Walter "June" C. Brazzle, 86, of Wamego, Kansas passed away Monday, April 30 , 2012 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka following a long illness.
Walter was born March 30, 1926 in Junction City, Kansas to Walter M. and Georgetta (Johnston) Brazzle. He grew up and attended schools in the Junction City and Wamego areas. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1944, serving during WWII stationed in the Philippines and seeing action as an anti-aircraft gunner on Cebu Island Asiatic Pacific Campaign. Following his military service, he returned to Wamego in 1946 and worked for 30 years at International Harvester in Wamego and later was able to fulfill a lifelong dream by opening June's Repair Shop in Wamego. June was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wamego, the American Legion Harold Johnson Post 72 of Wamego, and served 25 years on the Wamego Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed working with his hands to repair machinery, gardening, raising dogs, playing Bingo, and mostly spending time with his family.
On June 5, 1949 he married the love of his life, Marie Besta at the United Methodist Church in Wamego. Together they shared 62 wonderful years together. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include four children: Kathy Wilson and her husband Marlin of Wamego, Bruce Brazzle and wife Lois of Wamego, Jan Olmstead of Wamego, and Lori Harms and her husband Wayne of Blue Rapids, KS; two brothers: John Brazzle and Elmer Brazzle both of Wamego; one sister: Shirley Roudybush of Onaga; six grandchildren: Brandon Brazzle of Lee Summit, MO, Emily Fritterer of Quinter, KS, Ben Dickey of Shawnee, KS, Olivia Dickey of Wamego, Brock Wild and wife Kelly, and Cole Thomas, all of Manhattan, KS; four great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Danielle Fritterer of Quinter, KS and Kalie and Addison Brazzle of Lee Summit, MO; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Darlene Washburn and Wilma Tyson, and three brothers: Dean, Bobby, and William Brazzle.
A private graveside service and burial with full military honors will be held in Wamego City Cemetery, Thursday, May 3, 2012. The family suggests memorial donations to the Wamego Volunteer Fire Department and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547. A celebration of June's life will be held and announced at a later date.
