Obituary- Cleveland, Irene

IRENE CLEVELAND

Irene Cleveland, daughter and eldest child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Attebury, was born August 10th, 1858, near Lawrence, Kan, and finished this earthly life January 28, 1949, at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 20 days.

She was united in marriage September 3, 1876, to Lewis C. Cleveland. Two children, a daughter and son, were born to this union, but died in infancy. In 1905, she and husband moved to Oceola, Missouri, following his retirement as Union Pacific station agent at Silver Lake, after many years of service. After his death in 1924, she returned to Rossville.

At an early age she joined the Methodist church and through the years of her entire life was a most faithful and devout member. For many years, she has been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Four brothers, Will, Oscar, Arthur, and Fred and one sister, Nancy Howard, preceded her in death.

During the past 25 years in Rossville Mrs. Cleveland has been very active in her church and social circles and was always generous in giving of her means and time. She was deeply grieved when ill health and advanced age caused her to give up active duties in church or where ever needed.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, Tom Attebury, Rossville; Alice Towne, Superior, Nebr; Clara Robinson, Fowler, Kans.; Lawrence Attebury, Junction City, Oregon; Ralph Attebury, Ogden, Utah; Rollin Howard, Hossick, New York; Edwin Howard, South Shaftsbury, Vermont. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church conducted by the Rev Earl Harbour of Topeka.
