Obituary- Clothier, Nathan

Nathan S. Clothier

The people of Rossville and surrounding community were shocked and genuinely grieved early Tuesday morning when news of the death of Dr. N. S. Clothier, of St. Marys, was announced. His death occurred at 1 a. m. Tuesday morning, Nov., 1926, in the S. B. A. hospital, Topeka. Only a few of his Rossville friends knew that he had undergone an operation last Saturday.

Dr. Clothier was looked upon almost as one of our own citizens, having begun his dentistry practice here in 1900 or 1901, before locating in St. Marys, after his marriage. He had kept a local office for his use each month up until about two years ago. He was a man of great personal charm, with sterling qualities of character. His untimely decease will leave a void here almost as great as in his home community, where he was greatly esteemed and had been honored time after time with offices of trust and responsibility.

Nathan Summer Clothier was a native of Lewis county, West Virginia, where he was born April 2, 1873, and at the date of his death was 53 years and 7 months old. He was the son of H. H. and Jane Clothier.

He came to Kansas with his parents at the age of five and his early life was spent in the vicinity of Paxico. After completing his dentistry course his first practice was in Rossville. He located in St. Marys in 1902 and had been a resident of that city for the past twenty-four years.

He was united in marriage to Phoebe C. Turner, at Rock Creek, Kansas, November 5, 1902 and three children were born to this union, all whom survive him. They are Horace T., Topeka, Vera and Ione of the home address. He is also survived by his mother, three brothers and one sister: Dr. S. H. Clothier, Paxico; R. W. Clothier, Hilmer, Calif.; C. L. Clothier, Florence, Kansas; Mrs. Mary Martin, Deer Creek, Okla.

Funeral services were held today at 2:30 p. m. in the Congregational church at St. Mary, conducted by the Rev. M. W. Baker, of Topeka. The body was taken to Maple Hill for burial.
