Obituary- Cochran, Marilyn

MARILYN COCHRAN

Weakened by a severe attack of the measles, Marilyn Joan Cochran, 9-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cochran, living east of Silver Lake, was drowned Wednesday afternoon, May 24, 1944, when she struck her head against a rock after falling into a shallow pool in the yard at the Cochran home. Marilyn’s mother, who had been attending the girl night and day during the measles siege, was taking a nap when the girl left the house. Marilyn apparently became overbalanced and fell into the water. Undoubtedly she became dazed when her head struck the rock. The pool of water, formed by recent rains, is only about eight inches deep. The girl already was dead when her mother awakened and left the house to search for her. A bruise on the forehead showed where she had fallen against the rock. Marilyn was born February 1, 1935. Besides her parents, she is survived by three brothers, Lieut. Burton Cochran, Fort Worth, Texas; Cadet Leland Cochran, Amarillo, Texas and Clayton Cochran of the home; and three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cochran, Route 6, and Mrs Adelle Bills, of Rossville

Mrs. Adelle Bills returned home Wednesday from Topeka, after a weeks stay, called by the death of her granddaughter.
