Marriage- Conley, Patricia-Martinek, Kenneth 3

The bridegroom wore a three piece black tuxedo with tails, a white pleated-front shirt and red rose buttonniere.

Ron Martinek, Silver Lake, brother of the groom, was best man. Groomsmen were Chuck Ross, Topeka, Mark Elliott, Brett Hamilton and Kent Hamilton, Silver Lake. They wore black formal tuxedoes, with white pleated-front shirts and a red rose buttonniere.

Ushers were Bill Conley and James Conley, brothers of the bride, Alan Cunningham, John McCormick, Silver Lake, and Greg Marney, Rossville. They wore tuxedoes identical to the groomsmen and red rose buttonnieres.

Miss Lesa Martinek, sister of the groom, was in charge of the guest book. Her gown was of a rose print in chiffon and taffeta, tied at the waist with a red velvet bow. Her corsage was stephanotis and baby’s breath.

The ceremony began with a reading written by Kenneth and Patricia, and with Bible quotations from Corinthians, given by James Conley, brother of the bride.

Mr. Greg Hoover, Topeka, friend of the couple, accompanied himself with his guitar as he sang, “You Take My Breath Away.” As the couple lit the Unity Candle he sang, “Sabbath Prayer.”

The bride presented a red rose to Janet Martinek, mother of the groom, as the groom presented a red rose to Pauline Conley, mother of the bride.

The bride’s mother chose a floor-length gown of jade green, with full sleeves and a circular skirt. The bridegroom’s mother wore a floor length skirt of blue velvet, coordinated with a vest of the same color and a white long-sleeved blouse with tie neckline. Their corsages were ivory roses, stephanotis, baby’s breath and greenery.

Special guests were the four sets of grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Timmons, Mr. and Mrs. James Conley, Mr. and Mrs. Ted George, and Mr. and Mrs. William Martinek.

A reception followed the ceremony. The tables were laid with white lace cloths over red. The bride’s table held a three-tiered white wedding cake, decorated with white bells, roses and leaves, and topped with a bride and groom in front of a pearlized heart.

The groom’s three-tiered chocolate cake was heart-shaped, with chocolate icing, decorated with white hearts and cherubs, and topped with three large cherubs. The cakes were baked by Mrs. Carl Figge, St. Marys.

Red frosted candles in brass and crystal candlesticks, the bride’s bouquet, and greenery decorated the tables.

Red punch, nuts, and mints of red roses, green leaves and white bells were served.

Those serving at the reception table were Mrs. Diane Timmons, Berryton, aunt of the bride; Mrs. Beverly Martinek, Mrs. Jane Elliott, Delia; Lori Lutz, Manhattan; and Diane Martin, Silver Lake. Others who assisted were Mrs. Mildred Page, Mrs. Edith McClain, Mrs. Mildred Irwin, Mrs. Fern Sage, Karen Irwin, Rossville; and Michelle Macha, Delia.

The gifts were opened by friends of the couple, Mrs. Patty Hamilton, Silver Lake; Mrs. Peggy Gentry, Rossville; Misses Debra Miller arid Gayle Moyer, Topeka.

The wedding dance was held at the Moravan Hall with “The Jolly Czechs” playing polka music.

A dinner for the entire wedding party and their guests was hosted by the groom’s parents at the Mainstreeter Restaurant on November 30, following the rehearsal.

After a honeymoon in Kansas City, the couple is at home at 1506 Washburn, Topeka.

Mrs. Martinek is a senior in elementary education at Washburn University and is employed by Ray Beers Clothing Company.
