Obituary- Coleman, Charles

COLEMAN
Charles C. Coleman, third son of John and Phoebe Hastings Coleman, was born October 10, 1865, in Jackson, County, Kansas. He grew to young manhood on a farm in Cedar Township. December 19, 1888 he was united in marriage to Margaret Ellen James. To this union was born a daughter, Myrtle. Mrs. Coleman died April 11, 1910. Myrtle died May 6, 1915.
On June 12, 1916, he and Mrs. Ellen Orrick were united in marriage. A son and daughter were born to this union, Albert of Rossville and Ruth of Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Coleman engaged in farming all his life. During many busy years he fed cattle, raised hogs and bought stock. Mr. Coleman sold his farm and retired to Rossville March 8, 1940, where he made his home until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen, a son, Albert, a daughter-in-law, Jennie, a daughter Ruth of Kansas City, Mo., a stepdaughter, Mary Decker of Rossville, a stepson, Edwin Orrick of Reno, Nevada, a grandson, Kenneth Dale and six step-grandchildren.
He leaves two brothers, Joe of Boulder, Colo., and Arthur of Ottawa; two half-sisters, Mrs. Etta McCoombs and Mrs. Nettie Fager, St. Joseph, Mo, a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the mercer Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 5, at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. T.M. Hutcheson. Music was furnished by Mr. Gurges Daniel, Mrs. Jesse Patton and Mrs. Carl Dodson. Pall bearers were George Coleman , Marion Coleman, Darias Coleman, Robert Coleman, Lloyd Coleman and Dallas Coleman. Those helping with the flowers were Mrs. And Mrs. Sheretts, Mrs. Keller and Mrs. Kovar, all neighbors of Rossville. Burial was in the North Denison cemetery.

C.C. Coleman Died While Fishing in Creek
C.C. Coleman, 81 years of age, left his home Tuesday, forenoon to fish in Cross Creek. When he failed to return in the afternoon his wife became worried and had their son Albert and others search for him.
He was found dead from a heart attack in a sitting position apparently as he was baiting his hook. The death occurred just south of town on the Harvey farm.
Mr. and Mrs. Coleman became residents of Rossville a couple of years ago purchasing a home on South Pine street. Previously they had lived in Jackson county..
Survivors include his wife; a son, Albert, of Rossville; a daughter, Ruth of Kansas City; a step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Decker, of Rossville; a stepson, Edwin Orrick, of Reno; two brothers, Arthur of Ottawa and Joe of Colorado.
Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
