Obituary- Conley, Lurana 1

Lurana Conley

Lurana Rebecca Howard, daughter of Jared and Mary Howard, was born at South Shaftsbury, Vt., November 10, 1848. She was one of ten children, all of whom preceded her to the Great Beyond.. She was educated in the schools of Vermont, taught in the district schools of that state and in New York for more than ten years. She was married Sept. 29,1870, at South Shaftsbury, Vt., to James K. Conley of Milo Center, N. Y., and then came at once to Rossville, Ks., where they have since made their home.

Mrs. Conley always had high ideals of citizenship, and practiced and fostered the fundamental principles of Christianity.

For many years she was a member of the school board and took an active interest in educational matters; a member and active worker in the Literary and Music club, a charter member, officer and active worker in the local lodge of the K. L. S., and she gave much of her time and ability to aid the poor and the unfortunate. She made and retained many friends.

During the nearly 58 years she has resided in this community, she shared the hardships of its pioneer days, has aided much in its development. She was the mother four children, one of whom, Lillian, died in infancy. Mrs. Conley has been an invalid nearly ten years, gradually becoming weaker during which illness she has had the constant care and devotion of her ever faithful husband, James K. Conley, two daughters, Mamie A., wife of Justice W. W. Harvey, Topeka, Kansas, Chettie L., wife of L. U. Morris, General Supt., of the El Paso and South Western R. R., El Paso, Texas; one son Schuyler H. Conley of Rossville and six grand children, Helen Harvey, Ashland, Kans.; Lurana Betty Morris, El Paso, Texas; James L., Vernon S. and Theodore William Conley, all of Rossville.

The funeral service was held from the home Sunday afternoon and interment made in the Rossville cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. G. C. Albin. The music was in charge of Mrs. Peter Navarre, Mrs. G. C. Albin, and Mrs. Edward Goyette. Many beautiful flowers were received from friends. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased.
