FLOYD JAMES ‘JAKE’ BAIRD
Floyd James Baird, 57, Rossville, died Sunday, October 11, 1964, at a Topeka Hospital.
Born September 24, 1907 to Charles Edward Baird and Sadie Viola/Oldham Stum at Rossville, he had lived there all of his life.
Mr. Baird had been a warehouse foreman at the Topeka Supply Depot for several years. He was a World War II veteran.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Rossville and the Scottish Rite Bodies in Topeka and the American Legion at Silver Lake, Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Baird, Rossville, his mother Mrs. Sadie Baird, Rossville, a step-daughter, Mrs. Vivian Turner, two brothers, Vernon Baird, 3422 Bryant, Topeka, Kansas and Charles Baird of Neosho, Missouri; five sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Paine and Mrs. Wilma Dolezilek both of Rossville, Mrs. Grace Owens, Houston TX, Mrs. Edna Verhage, Tonganoxie, Kansas and Mrs. Jean Mee, Canadian, TX.
Parker Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Personal Notes:
Sgt. Floyd (Jake) Baird arrived in Leavenworth last Friday and was given his discharge from air force. Sergeant Jake has been a member of ground crew of the famous Ninth Air Force, went to France shortly after D-Day and through the whole campaign until the Germans said “Uncle.” Jake didn’t waste any time after leaving Leavenworth in getting home to greet his family and old cronies. 1945
Divine-Baird
Mrs. Bess Divine and Floyd ‘Jake’ Baird slipped out of town Saturday and were married Sunday at 6:00 o’clock in Huntsville, AR. They were accompanied by her daughter Mrs. Henry Turner and Mr. Turner. They returned to Rossville Monday. (1953)
