Obituary- Attebury, William

W. S. ATTEBURY
Funeral services for Wm. S. Attebury, will be held Friday afternoon, at 2 o’clock in the Rossville Methodist [sic] church. Services at the grave will be in charge of Hesperian Lodge A. F. & A. M,
Mr. Attebury’s death occurred early Wednesday morning following a week’s illness of flu, which it was supposed he bad overcome, as he come to town Saturday. How¬ever, he suffered a relapse Saturday night and steadily weakened until his passing Wednesday.
Mr. Attebury had long been one of the most substantial farmers of Rossville township owning and farm¬ing his holdings south of town.
He was 74 years old [sic]. Despite his age he was noted as a hard worker and did the bulk of his own work until his last illness.
He was born near Lawrence, Sep-tember 7, 1860, and moved to the Rossville farm in 1885. He and Mrs. Attebury celebrated their gold¬en wedding anniversary last October 1. He was a past master of Hesperian lodge No. 1ll, A. F. & A. M. of Rossville.
He is survived by his widow Mrs. Martha Attebury; a son Thomas Attebury, Rossville, a brother, O.E. Attebury, Auburn, and two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Howard, Bennington, Vt., and Mrs. Irene Cleveland, Rossville.

Mr. W. O. Owen, of Hugo, Colo., a brother of Mrs. Mattie Attebury, will arrive Friday for the funeral of W. S. Attebury. [sic]

William Sylvester Attebury was born near Lawrence, Kansas, September 7, 1860. He passed way at his home south of Rossville, Febru-ary 27, 1935, at the age of 74 years,
5 months and 20 days.
With his parents he moved to a place northwest of Topeka in 1867.
In 1876 they moved to the place south of Rossville where he has resided practically all the years since.
He was united in marriage to Martha Owens on October 1, 1884, and just last fall they celebrated the Golden Anniversary of that event.
His widow survives him, as also one son, Thomas H. Attebury; a brother,
O. E. Attebury of Auburn, and two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Howard of Bennington, Vermont, and Mrs. Irene Cleveland of Rossville.
Mr. Attebury united with the lo-cal Presbyterian church years ago.
He has been a member of Hesperian Lodge, A. F. & A. M. for the past thirty-one years.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon, when a great number of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last respects. Pallbearers were six nephews.
Music was furnished by a mixed quartette composed of A. A. Cless, Mrs. E. E. Witter, Mrs. Peter Navarre, and Rev. Horton, with Mrs. Thelma Sigler at the piano.
