Anniversary- White, George and Dollie 2

Coffee Break
By Betty J. Murray
Mrs. G.E.R. White is courting his wife again. Next week they will exchange marriage vows – the second time in 50 years. Being married 50 years is reason enough for celebrating and the Whites are honoring the occasion by again repeating the vows that were the beginning of their happy life together.

Mr. White is a man with many names, and there lies a tale. His father’s name was George White. And when the elder Mr. White came to this country from England, he discovered how common his two names were. He, therefore, added a middle name to his signature, but even that didn’t help a lot in this new world of many Whites.

When he married, he was determined that his children would not be plagued with this problem of identity. This is the reason for the G.E.R. in front of Mr. White’s name. He has three first names.

It didn’t end there either. Mr. and Mrs. White carried on the tradition, giving their two sons three first names. C.R.H. White and L.W.V. White. The grandsons, I understand, have also been given this abundance of initials so that they will be easily identified from all the other Whites in this country.

G.E.R. White keeps a very busy schedule. He does most of the housework since his wife is an invalid, but he finds time to spend with his hobby of raising flowers. Besides an abundance of house plants, he raises the most beautiful peonies I’ve ever seen. I have enjoyed receiving several bouquets of these prize spring flowers.

Congratulations to the Whites and may this new marriage be as happy as the old one.
