Cecile O. Zlatnik
Cecile Olena Zlatnik, 92, for-merly of Delia, died Sunday, Janu¬ary 5, 1997, at St. Marys Manor.
She was born May 21, 1904, near Delia, the daughter of Ludvig Syverin and Ella Lucretia Keller Thompson. She had lived in the Delia community all of her life.
She was graduated from Wash¬ington Township High School in 1923, and taught at Stach School prior to her marriage to Joseph Zlatnik on September 24, 1924. Mr. and Mrs. Zlatnik engaged in farming, and were married for 60 years prior to his death on March 2, 1985.
She continued teaching in church classes and for a number of years was active in teaching the Menninger Bible Study Course in the Delia area. She was active in community affairs, including the women’s Farm Bureau organizations, which went through several changes of name and is now known AS Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS).
Mrs. Zlatnik was always interested in the education of young people, and served as president of the Delia Board of Education for 25 years. After the school consoli¬dation movement, she continued to serve on the Board of Education for U.S.D. 321 until she finished her term.
An active member of the Delia Presbyterian Church from early adulthood, she served in many official capacities, including clerk of the session, elder, church musician, and Sunday school teacher. In ad-dition, she was active in the women’s groups of the church from Ladies’ Aid to United Pres¬byterian Women.
Surviving her are two sons, J. Laverne Zlatnik, Delia, and Roger L. Zlatnik, Topeka; four daughters, Rosella J. Hoglund, Overland Park, Evelyne R. Parkerson, Decatur, GA, Mary Alice Huntsman and Judith L. Macha, both of Topeka; a foster daughter, Della Blodgett, Burbank, CA; three brothers, Alfred Thompson, River¬side, CA, Eugene Thompson, To¬peka, and Maurice Thompson, Rossville; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She will lie in state after 2:00 Tuesday (this afternoon) at Piper- Verschelden Funeral Home. A family visitation will be held from 7 until 8 at the funeral home. Her service is at 2:00 Wednesday at the Delia Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the Delia Cem-etery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Delia Presbyterian Church or the St Marys Manor, and sent in care of the funeral home.
