Carl Cornell

Carl Cornell, 71, of Rossville, died Sept. 1, 2013. Carl was born Nov. 17, 1939, to Carl and Violet Cornell in Marion County, Indiana.

He was a Marine from 1959 to 1963 and later went into the Navy as a Seabee from 1976 to 1980. After the military he was a volunteer for the Marine Corps League in Indiana. He worked for GM 21 years; upon retirement from GM, he moved to Europe to enjoy retirement. After Europe, he did some over-the-road truck driving. Carl retired from truck driving and moved to Florida for a few years before making the final move to Kansas to live out the remainder of his years.

Carl is survived by daughter, Cathy and her husband, Wayne Porter; siblings, Richard Cornell, Kenneth Cornell and wife Mindy, Russell Cornell and wife Mary Jane, Ralph Cornell, Rosie Morgan and husband Alan, and Sally; mother, Violet Cornell; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Carl was preceded in death by his father, Carl Cornell.

A graveside service was held Sept. 5 at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan. Memorial contributions to Leavenworth National Cemetery may be sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048. Friends are invited to Cathy’s home following the service at the cemetery.
