Anniversary- Thompson, Nels and Alta 3

Observe 60th wedding anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Nels Thompson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their home north of Delia, March 8, 1959.

Their four daughters served dinner to the couple and their brothers and sister. Places were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Nels Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Thompson, Mr, and Mrs. L. V. Keller, Mrs. Alma Keller, a cousin, all of Delia, Mr. and Mrs. James Worthington, Rawlings, Wyoming, and Mr. and Mrs. Levi Keller, Rossville.

Grandchildren present were Harry Herrington, Dr. and Mrs. James Brennan, Larry, Ruth Anne, Johnny and Diane Bowers. Also present were Father Nebiols, Lawrence and Alfred Bowers, Marvin Berry and Norma Fortier.

At the reception which followed, Ina Thompson cut the lovely three tiered cake that was baked and presented as a gift by Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Gideon of Emmett. Mrs. Emma Bowers poured the punch. Also assisting at the reception were Mrs. Stella Herrington. Mrs. James Brennan. Ruth Anne Bowers and Mrs. Lawrence Bowers.

Nearly 200 friends and relatives signed the guest book, coming from Hiawatha, Holton, Soldier, Topeka. Rossville, Eskridge, St. Marys, Mayetta, Emmett, and Delia. They brought many lovely gifts.

Alta and Nels were married at the U. B. Church at Adrian, March 6, 1899, by the Rev. J. Wykert. Two of his children attended the reception, Lydia and Olin.

There were three in attendance at the reception that were present at the wedding 60 years ago. Chris Thompson, Lin Keller and Lillie Keller Worthington.

Their first home was one mile west of their present one and they have spent their entire married life in this community. They have led an active life taking part in all community affairs. Although confined to a wheelchair, Alta does most of her house work and pieces quilts for pastime. Nels still farms 400 acres of land and every nice day finds him on one of his new tractors in the field.

They have served their community well and thru the years Nels has held many a public office.

They are the parents of five living children, Stella Herrington, Silver Lake; Ina and Curtis of Topeka; Emma Bowers and Christina Bowers, Delia.

They enjoy television but most of all they enjoy the visits from friends and relatives.
