Joseph Hawks was born in Lucas County, Iowa, June 5, 1865 and departed this life at the home of his brother, Frank, in Wymore, Nebr., January 10, 1917, at the age of 51 years, 7 months and 5 days.
In the year 1870 he came wih his parents to Kansas, where he lived most of the time until in 1903, when he went to Arkansas, later returning to Kansas and from there to Nebraska where he has since resided until the time of his death.
He converted while quite young and has always lived a conscientious and faithful christian life, and as the shadows of death gathered around him, gave clear evidence of going to his reward beyond the skies. He is not dead, but sleepeth. Blessed are the dead which died in the Loard.
He leaves a mother, 2 brothers, 3 sisters and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
The funeral services were held at the home of his sister, Mrs. W. C. McCracken of this place, conducted by Rev. Snare, Pastor of the M.P. Church of Haddam, Kans., after which the remains were laid to rest in the Hawks Cemetery east of Cuba, Kansas.
