Obituary- Zickefoose, Christina 2

Christina Bahner Zickefoose
Christina Ann Bahner Zickefoose, 98, Rossville, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Topeka. She was born Oct. 14, 1913, near Grove in Shawnee County, the daughter of E. Phillip and Rosa Ann (Dvorak) Bahner.

She attended Stach, a one-room school-house, now part of the Kansas State Historical grounds. She roomed “in town” and graduated in 1931 from Delia High School where she played basketball on the same team with her older sister, Julia.

Christina married S.F. Zickefoose in 1935 and moved with him to California, Mississippi, Georgia, Onaga, Kan., and returned to Rossville in 1947. She was a member of the Rossville Christian Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent for many years. She was past worthy matron of Loyal Chapter of the Eastern Star. She served two terms on the Rossville Grade School Board. Christina was employed by the Farm Bureau Insurance Co. as a secretary. She pursued a lifelong interest in gardening, collecting antiques, and needlework. She loved sports and closely followed KU basketball.

Mrs. Zickefoose was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her son, Sam Zickefoose and his wife Marti of Prairie Village; her daughter, Jane Davis and her husband Allen of Topeka; grandchildren, Steven Davis of Wichita, Paul Davis of Kansas City, Kan., Brian Zickefoose of Prairie Village, and Anne Zickefoose Hu of New York City; and six great-grandchildren, Ellie, Nora, Fiona and James Davis, and Jack and Ethan Zickefoose.

Funeral services were Oct. 29 at Rossville Christian Church. Interment followed in Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rossville Christian Church, P.O.
