Dick, 73, Route 8, who died Monday, March 6, 1978, at his home in the Willard community west of Topeka. He apparently had an abdominal ailment. He was born May 20, 1904, at Williamstown in Jefferson County, the son of I.S. and Elizabeth Dick. He lived in the Rossville and Willard communities since 1942. He was a farmer and stockman and later was a custom harvester. Mr. Dick was a member of the Christian Church and Hesperian Lodge No. 111, both at Rossville. He was married to Pearl Opal Best November 21, 1929, at Lawrence. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Grace E. Miller, Route 8; two sons, James I, Dick, Willard, and LeRoy G. Dick, Blaine; a sister, Mrs. Stella Schreher, Lawrence; a brother, Bennie Dick, Sr., Rossville; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Dick worked for the Quaker Oats Co. in Topeka. She was born May 5, 1954, in Holton, the daughter of Dick and Maxine Kientz Eckert. She was graduated from Wetmore High School in 1972 and attended Washburn University. She was a member of Wetmore United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Kansas National Guard. She was married to Rodney Dick on June 16, 1979, in Holton. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Laci Dick and Ashley Dick, both at home; her parents, Dick and Maxine Eckert, a brother, Rick Eckert, Minneapolis; a half-brother, Gary Ray, Netawaka; and a grandmother, Helen Eckert, Holton. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Dick will lie in state after 6 p.m. today at the Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys, where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Relatives and friends also will meet from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. | 5156 |  | Obituary- Dick, Esther Esther V. Dick Esther V. Dick, 91, of Topeka, formerly of Perry, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 1995, at Brewster Place Care Center. She was born Sept. 23, 1904, in Ozawkie, the daughter of H.G. and Mae Hawkins Wolfe, and lived in Jefferson County many years. She lived in Perry from 1927 to 1979. She taught in schools in Jefferson and Shawnee counties 17 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Perry since 1916 and was a Sunday school teacher at the church many years. She was a graduate of the Flo V. Menninger Bible Study course and taught the Bile course many years. She also was a member of the Topeka YWCA. She was a volunteer at Stormont-Vail and St. Francis hospitals in Topeka and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was married to Roy V. Dick June 14, 1927 in Oskaloosa. He died Jan. 30, 1959. Nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Perry. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Perry. Mrs. Dick will lie in state from noon to 8:30 p.m. today at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. She was born Dec 14, 1915, in Topeka and lived in Kansas City, Kan., many years. She was a 50-year member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kan., and the Altar Society at the church. Her husband, Willard F. "Bill” Dick, died in 1983. Survivors include a son, Joe Dick, Kansas City, Kan.; four daughters, Mary Ann Bergman, Sarah Jane Sally Campion, and Barbara Bukaty, all in Kansas City, Kan., and Susan Stone, Topeka; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kan. Entombment will be in Mount Calvary Mausoleum in Kansas City, Kan. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bennie Dick Jr. His brother Wayne Dick, Rossville, survives. Gary graduated from Rossville High School. Gary married Sheryl Perry April 20th, 1968. He worked as a financial planner and retired in 2020. | 5161 |  | Obituary- Dick, Jerry L. Jerry L. Dick Jerry L. Dick, 83, Silver Lake, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021 at his home in Silver Lake. He was born August 6, 1938, in Topeka, the son of William “Bill” and Alverine Tibbets Dick. Jerry was raised in Topeka and attended Highland Park High School and graduated from Lecompton High. Jerry excelled in sports and even played on the junior high school basketball team as a fifth grader. He played and excelled in all sports in high school and continued to participate in a variety of athletics long into his adult life. When not at the ballfield, basketball court or bowling alley, you would probably find Jerry and the family camping at Perry Lake or traveling the country. He and his wife Kay rode in all 50 states on a motorcycle. Jerry worked at GoodYear Tire and Rubber in Topeka. He retired in 2000 after 40 years of service. Jerry was a member of Local No 307 United SteelWorkers Union in Topeka. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Jean Kesinger, and his daughter, Troy Layne Adkins. Jerry was united in marriage to Kathleen Edwards Robison in 1961. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Coy (Bill) Hoffman and Joy Michael. Two brothers, Bob (Laura) Dick and Jack (Ann) Dick all of Topeka; grandchildren, Lacey (Dustin) Brunin, Jenna (Chance) Stum, Shawna (Nick) Isakson, Brady (Loren) Hoffman, Robison Michael, Jamie (Dylan) Forgy and Casey Shelman; great-grandchildren, Quinton, Kensley, Abbie, Jaxon, Kallie, Haiden, Drew, Hewitt, Hank, Haisley, Stetson and #12 on the way. Caregiver Emily Barrick. Funeral services were Friday, December 3, 2021, at the Rossville Christian Church. Interment followed at the Historic Topeka Cemetery. | 5162 |  | Obituary- Dick, Kerry 1 Kerry Dick December 10, 1967 — November 29, 2021 It is with heavy hearts we mourn the passing of Rossville Police Officer Kerry Dick. Officer Dick died Monday, November 29, 2021, at a local hospital of natural causes; he was 53 years old. He was born December 10, 1967, at Wichita, the son of Edgar and Phyllis (Boggs) Dick. The Dick family moved to Wamego when Kerry was in the second grade. Kerry lived most all his life in Wamego. Kerry started his law enforcement career in March 1995 as a Reserve Officer with the City of Wamego Kansas Police Department after completing their reserve academy. He transitioned to a part-time position with Wamego PD in 1997 after successfully completing the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center part-time academy. Kerry served as a part-time officer with the City of Rossville for over 14 years from September 2007 until his death on November 29th, 2021. Kerry was preceded in death by his mother Phyllis; and several beloved aunts and uncles. On September 6, 2014, Kerry was united in marriage to Tina Bonawitz at Willard. Kerry leaves behind his wife Tina; Step-children and grandchildren; his father, Edgar Dick (Linda Falchek); his sister, Pam Maag (Roger), their children, Mara Thayer (Keith), and children, Lincoln and Jameson, Drew Prescott, Nelson Neuberger (Ashley), and children Ember with number two on the way, Mindy Brunker (Jake), and children Mackenzie and Brody, Katie Maag, and Adam Maag (Hannah) and children, Henry, Mila, and Maven; his uncle, Bob Boggs; aunt, Carol Davis, and aunt Janice (Lane) Chazdon; furthermore, a host of cousins and extended family. Kerry also leaves behind his Law Enforcement brothers and sisters. | 5163 |  | Obituary- Dick, Kerry 2 Kerry Dick WILLARD - December 10, 1967-Noveber 29, 2021 Age 53 Kerry Dick of Willard, Kansas, formerly of Wamego, Kansas died November 29, 2021 at Stormont Vail Hospital due to complications caused by Covid 19. Kerry was born December 10, 1967 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Edgar and Phyllis (Boggs) Dick, Jr. The Dick family lived in Topeka until 1974 when they moved to Wamego where his father opened a dental lab. When Kerry graduated from Wamego High School, he studied and became a dental technician at Dick's Dental Lab. Kerry completed the Wamego Police Reserve Academy training and started his law enforcement career March, 1995 as a Reserve Officer at Wamego. After successfully completing Kansas Law Enforcement training, he transitioned to a position with the Wamego PD in 1997. Kerry worked part-time as an officer at the Rossville PD from 2007 until his death. Kerry was united in marriage to Tina Bonawitz on September 6, 2014. Kerry was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis; aunts and uncles Rhonda and Jim Fuller; Mary Speer; Dale Hitchcock, and Clarence and Betty Dick. Survivors include his wife, Tina; stepchildren and grandchildren; his father, Edgar Dick, Jr.; his sister Pam Maag (Roger); their children, Mara Thayer (Keith) and children; brothers Drew Prescott and Nelson Neuberger (Ashly) and children; his uncles Ron Speer, Jerry Dick and Robert Boggs; his aunts Carol Davis, Janice Chandon and Lucille Hitchcock. Kerry had many friends and he will be solely missed. Kerry was a very outgoing person, always ready to give a helping hand or an encouraging, cheerful word to those in need. His hobbies included woodcarving, restoring jeeps and researching how to fix anything that needed fixing - a real "jack of all trades." Kerry loved animals - especially his little dog. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Kerry ashes will be buried beside his mother at Louisville cemetery. Kim married Mark Wisely, they later divorced. She married Bruce Dick in 2001. He survives at their home. He was born March 22, 1897, at Williamstown, the son of I.S. and Elizabeth Dick, and lived his early life in the Williamstown community. He lived near Pauline 34 years before he moved to the Rochester neighborhood 10 years ago. He was a veteran of World War I, and was a farmer before he retired about 10 years ago. He was a member of Terra Heights Baptist Church and Post No. 142 of the American Legion at Perry. He was married to Nellie Belle Carder September 10, 1919, at Perry. She survives. A son, Ralph Edward Dick, died September 4, 1964. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary Allman, Manhattan; two brothers, Clarence Dick, Willard, and Bennie Dick, Rossville; three sisters, Mrs. Stella Schehrer, Lawrence, Mrs. Lena Prentice, Osawatomie, and Mrs. Cassie May, Perry; seven grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. Services were at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Military graveside services were conducted at Buster Cemetery north of Perry. He was born November 14, 1916, in Harvey County, the son of Dietrich H. and Justina Marten Dick. He was a lifelong Reno County resident. Mr. Dick was a member of the Buhler Mennonite Church, Buhler Kiwanis Club, Kansas Farmer of the Year and Kansas Wool Growers Association. He had served on the boards of directors for the Buhler State Bank, Soil Conservation, 4-H Extension, Farm Credit Services and Blaze Fork Drainage District He was also a member of the governing board of the Buhler Rural Fire District. He married Dorothy L. Giddings on September 3, 1939 in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Mark W. Dick, Wichita; two daughters, Connie Rueck, Silver Lake, and Diane Romans, Arnold, NE; a brother, Arthur K. Dick, Buhler; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His service was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Buhler Mennonite Church. Burial was in Buhler Municipal Cemetery. Family and friends met 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Dick HOLTON-Thelma Jean (Smith) Dick, 81, formerly of Holton, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Lexington Park in Topeka, Kansas, with loved ones at her side. She was born September 20, 1932 in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, the daughter of Stanley and Emma Susan (Williams) Smith. She graduated from Rossville High School in 1951. She married James I. S. Dick on March 7, 1952, in the Presbyterian Church, of Rossville. They later divorced. Thelma retired August 18, 1994 after 29 year of service with the State of Kansas in the Motor Vehicle Division. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a deacon and a member of the Dorcas Circle. Thelma was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and a loyal friend to many. She enjoyed her church and time spent with family and friends. She is survived by a daughter, Jana Lutz (Jerry) of Holton, and a son, Bruce Dick (Kim) of Delia and two sisters, Martha Miller, of Wamego, and Helen Fouraker, Miles City, Montana and 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Louis, and three sisters, Nona Rafferty, Dorothy Perry, Ruth Mahoney. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Holton. Burial will follow in the Silver Lake Cemetery. | 5176 |  | Obituary- Dickerson, Nancy and Dickerson, Clifford 2 Dickerson Couple Drown In Perry Lake (from Topeka “Capital-Journal”) Nancy J. Rezac Dickerson, 30, and her husband, Clifford W. Dickerson, 31, both drowned in Perry Lake on Sunday, July 27, 1986. Mrs. Dickerson’s body was discovered Sunday evening and Mr. Dickerson’s body was recovered early Tuesday in the Longview area at Perry Lake. An autopsy revealed Mrs. Dickerson drowned. Dr. Angel Arafiles, Oskaloosa, deputy Jefferson County coroner, said Tuesday that Dickerson’s death had also been ruled a drowning and no autopsy was done. Although no witness to the accident have been found, Jefferson County Sheriff Roy Dunnaway said authorities theorize the couple drowned after Mrs. Dickerson went wading in the lake with her dogs, slipped on some rocks and panicked. Dunnaway said he believes Dickerson saw his wife struggling in the water, ran in to save her, got in trouble himself and drowned. Dickerson, who was described by family members as a strong swimmer, was clad in cutoff jean shorts and tennis shoes when he was found. His wife who could not swim and was afraid of the water, was wearing a swimsuit, Dunnaway said. Dunnaway said some moss-covered rocks on the north side of the cove where the woman’s body was found showed signs someone had slipped and then struggled against them in an attempt to right themselves. “It appears to be just a panic-type situation,” Dunnaway said. Rescue workers from the sheriff’s department, the Fish and Game Commission and the Corps of Engineers participated in the search for Mr. Dickerson’s body. Divers from Shawnee County and a bloodhound from the Kansas State Penitentiary in Lansing were also called in. Mrs. Dickerson was the daughter of Ernest and Martha Rezac, Silver Lake. She was married to Ralph Nitzsche and was later divorced. She married George Diehl at Stockton. They lived in Rossville and Silver Lake for approximately 10 years. Hazel was a mother and a homemaker. She had worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka. Hazel was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. George Diehl died January 15, 1967. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, George Griffiths and Robert Griffiths; a daughter, Doris Jean Stankiewitz; and two grandsons, Craig Roosevelt and Marty Nitzsche. She will be greatly missed. Mary Ann was born on March 18, 1945, in Wamego, Kansas to Dale Chalmer and Marsella Ann (Stadler) Ruff, both deceased. Mary Ann grew up in Rossville, Kansas and graduated from Rossville High School in 1962. Upon graduation she began working for various companies around the Topeka area, including Shelter Insurance in the Claims Department and managed lounge at the American Legion Auxiliary Post 400 in Topeka. Mary Ann’s desire to see more of the world led her to move to Kansas City in 1991 and she studied and became a licensed travel agent, which allowed her to travel more and see the beauty the world has to offer. Eventually she found herself moving to the Palm Springs area of California where she worked as an office administrator until she retired in 2009. Mary Ann married Stephen Diehl but were granted a divorce in 1974. They had a son in 1970, Jason Christopher, who survives his mother and lives in West Hollywood, CA, not far from Mary Ann’s home in Beaumont. Mary Ann is also survived by a brother, Frank Ruff (Lorraine), in Davidsonville, MD. During the course of her life, Mary Ann enjoyed many surprising activities, including volunteering her time and talents by making quilts for veteran’s groups. She also enjoyed playing billiards and proved to be quite the pool shark. In the 1980s she often placed in the top 3 positions in the Kansas Women’s Billards Tournament and even garnered First Place trophies in both singles and doubles tournaments. Mary Ann was interred next to her mother at the Rossville Cemetery in Rossville, KS after a graveside service on January 15th, at 1:00 pm. The family welcomed any friend, relative or acquaintance of Mary Ann to attend the service. The service is being arranged by Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys, KS. Spending most of his life in Kent, Washington, Ben was a senior at Kentwood High School and played varsity basketball there. He also worked part-time at IKEA in Renton, Washington. He was looking forward to college next year but was taken from us in a car accident early Friday morning. Ben loved playing basketball and was excited about playing in this year's State tournament. His sense of humor and uncanny ability to disarm even the most sophisticated will be sorely missed. He is survived by his son, Troy Chalcraft, his parents, Michael and Julie, a brother, Matthew, a sister, Mia, and grandparents, Darrell and Mary Carr of Topeka, Kansas, and Jean and Jack Dimeo from West Chester, Pennsylvania. | 5195 |  | Obituary- Ditch, Florence FORMER ROSSVILLE WOMAN FATALLY INJURED BY CAR Services for Mrs. Florence Ditch, 63, of 1641 Western, Topeka, wife of the late Ora Ditch, who died early Sunday morning from injuries suffered when she was struck by an automobile at the corner of Seward and Ohio, in Topeka, were held Tuesday at 9:30 a. m. at Wall-Diffenderfer mortuary. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Ditch, with her daughter, Mrs. Milton Long, of 3735 Sena Drive, Topeka, was crossing Seward going toward their parked automobile on the north side of street shortly after midnight Saturday, when Roger Colby, 27, of Oskaloosa, driving a 1950 model Chevrolet and headed west, struck Mrs. Ditch. She was thrown on top of the car’s hood and carried along the street. Skid marks on the pavement indicated the car traveled 138 feet from the point of impact before it came to a stop, officers said. According to Dr. H. L. Clark, coroner, Colby said he was driving between 40 and 45 miles an hour. Mrs. Ditch was dead on arrival of the ambulance at St. Francis hospital. Colby was arrested on a reckless driving charge. Mrs. Long was not hit, although she was only a few steps from her mother. Mrs. Ditch was born a mile northwest of Rossville October 14, 1886, and had been a resident of Topeka the last 25 years. Her husband, before his death March 31, 1948, was employed during the war as a foreman at the Supply Depot. Mrs. Ditch is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Roy Brees, Mrs. Charles Spangler, Mrs. Don Stevens, Mrs. Milton Long and Mrs. Lester Currey, all of Topeka; and Mrs. Norman Hug, Manhattan; a son Lloyd G.
