Special thanks to our minister, Rev. William Adair and to the doctors and nurses of St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. Also, to our son, Milan G. of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and daughter Penny Stafford and family of Tulsa, Oklahoma for their trips here both during the illness and then for the funeral. And appreciation to Alice Marie Hejtmanek of Houston, Texas for her week-long visit during Milan’s illness. And grateful appreciation to the Delia Lions and Masons who made a “work day” in July and hauled away truck loads of dead limbs and debris, remains of the 1982 flood. Also, to Ken Houck and Leonard Dodge for building a ramp at our front door for the wheelchair to go on, to the Delia men who assisted me each day for 11 days in getting Milan to and from radiotherapy treatments in Topeka, to the Delia women who brought us food and meals during that time and even before and during the day of the funeral, and to the women who prepared the meal in the community building in Delia for relatives to be eaten after the funeral — for all these and many more unforgettable kindnesses — my heartfelt gratitude!
Then, my appreciation to the American Legion Post No. 31 in Ross¬ville for use of a wheelchair, hospital bed and bedside table.
Also, for the cards, phone calls, visits, concern, good wishes and prayers given us during Milan’s illness, and then during and since the funeral. My very deep appreciation. How wonderful our friends! And God’s love! Bless each one of you. - Margaret Hejtmanek.

 | Obituary- Henderson, Ralph M. HENDERSON - March 19th, 1884 at the residence of his mother, in Rossville. Mr. R.M. Henderson, of consumption, in the ---- year of his life.
We little thought in writing the above obituary that it would be our painful duty to record in this one short week another bereavement by death of a friend and fellow citizen. Mr. Henderson has been sick for some time at Eskridge, Kan., and last week growing worse his relatives at this place were telegraphed for and brought him here, where he continued to grow worse until his death, which occurred about 10 o'clock Wednesday evening. His suffering has been very great and at times his mind wandered very much. He leaves a wife and three small children to keep green his memory in the years to come. It is in this crucible of sore bereavement that God burns out from our hearts the love of this world and consumes the skepticism which may have been lurking there. When the Redeemer died, Nature stood agast [sic]. She uttered her voice and proclaimed his dignity to the universe. Clad in preternatural darkness, she uttered her groans and refused to behold the sigh, and Man, guilty, rebellious man was the cause of that which shook heaven and earth. We are told to open our eyes and look, even through our tears at the glorious prospect which lies before us. Our loved ones who died in Christ are beckoning us from earth to join them in their consummate realization of immortality.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. O.E. Hart, at the Presbyterian church, after which the remains were followed to the cemetery by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and consigned to their last resting place. |
