| 8651 |  | Obituary- Osborn, Gordon Gordon Osborn Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Davidson-Duff Funeral Home for Gordon 0. Osborn, 70, Luray, formerly of 4425 S.E. US-40, Topeka, who died Thursday morning at a Russell hospital. He was born Jan. 15, 1908, in Delia., and lived most of his life in Topeka. He moved to Luray three years ago. He operated restaurants for more than 50 years and most recently operat ed Gordon’s Bar-b-que on East 6th. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a 35-year member of the American Legion Capitol Post No. 1, and a member of the Forty et Eight Club. He married Belle Kenney on May 31, 1968, in Westmoreland. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Robert Osborn, Pittsburg; two stepsons, Jack Benander, Locus Grove, Okla., and Larry Benander, Hutchinson; a step-daughter, Mrs. Darlene Smith, Luray; two brothers, Theodore Osborn, St. Louis, and John Osborn, address unavailable; a sister, Mrs. Golda Thompson, 705 Tyler; three granddaughters, eight stepgrandchildren, one great-grandchild and six stepgreat-grand- children. Military graveside services, conducted by American Legion Capitol Post No. 1, will be in Memorial Park. Mr. Osborn will lie in state after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. He had been a resident of Shawnee county for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Osborn; seven children, Earl, and Oliver Osborn and Mrs. Coffman, Topeka; Mrs. Nevada Heslet and Mrs. Myrtle Rasdershack, Los Angeles, Calif., Edward Osborn, Okmulgee, Okla., and Mrs. Beulah Moreman, Potomac, Ill.; a brother, Milton Osborn, Rossville; three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Stadler, Mrs. George Smith and Mrs. W.W. Morgan, all of Rossville; 35 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Rossville Methodist church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G.S. Pritchett. John Thomas Osborn was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, Dec. 26th 1850 and died in the Stormont Hospital, at Topeka, Kan., Oct. 9th, 1911, aged 60 years, 9 months and 13 days. He made his home in Iowa for about 30 years; the last half of his life he has spent in Colorado, excepting the past few years which have been in Kansas. He was never married. When a young man he was converted to God and united with the Baptist church at Winterset, Iowa; since that time he has lived apart from his relatives and not much is known of his Christian life. But in his last illness at the hospital he gave bright evidence that all was well with his soul and told his sister, Mrs. Heslet, that he was ready for his departure. He leaves to mourn their loss, a brother, A.P. Osborn of Arkansas City and Mrs. N.A. Heslet of this city. The funeral services were held in the M.E. church in Rossville, Kas., Tuesday Oct. 10th at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. O.B. Young, Pastor of the M.E. church, and interment made in the Rossville cemetery. | |

Osborn, 78, wife of the late John Osborn, and former resident of Rossville, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Morrison, 3101 Wisconsin ave., Topeka, Monday morning. She had been a resident of Kansas 42 years and a resident of Topeka 36 years. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Laura Shockley and Mrs. Grace Ross, all of Topeka, and Mrs. Mabel Bouslog, Kettle Falls, Wash.; two sons, Fred W. Stone, Topeka, and Ira Stone, Wokama, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary McNiss and Mrs. Hannah Reynolds, both of Pennsylvania; a brother, W.M. Lambourn, Pennsylvania; 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Conwell's mortuary. Interment was in Rochester cemetery. | |

San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Soldier, who died Wednesday, Nov. 28, at a San Antonio medical center. Mr. Osborn retired from the Army in 1950 at the rank of sergeant. He was a veteran of World War II. He was born Jan. 19, 1906. at Delia, the son of Fred L. and Anna C. Stephenson Osborn. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Marian Beightel, Holton, Mrs. Annabelle Harmon. Ashland, Ore., and Mrs. Evelyn Jepson, Prairie Village; and a brother, Robert Osborn, Manhattan. | 8658 |  | Obituary- Osborn, Robert An Old Settler Gone. Died, at his home in this city Monday evening, March 2nd, Robert Osborn, aged 70 years. For several months past Mr. Osborn has suffered from heart disease and the end was momentarily expected. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his taking away. The deceased was one of the pioneer settlers of this township having resided here for more than 33 years. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 o'clock in the M.E. Church, of which he was a devout member, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Rice, in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. The body was laid to rest in the city cemetery. | 8659 |  | Obituary- Osborn, Rosa Mrs. Rosa Osborn Dead Mrs. Rosa Osborn, died last Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Fred Fluckinger, near Menoken, after a short illness. Mrs. Osborne was for many years a resident of Rossville and many old friends attended the funeral services at the Methodist church which were conducted by Rev. Ward. Her husband, Silas Osborn died at their home in Topeka in 1903 since which time she has lived with her sons and daughters. Mrs. Osborn was the daughter of Andrew and Sabra McNeal, was born June 1, 1856, Rockford, Indiana. When nine years of age she joined the M.E. church and had been an active member since. She is survived by three sons, R.N. and F.R. of Alma, and James T. of Silver Lake, and two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Olson, of Seaside Oregon and Mrs. Fred Fluckinger of Menoken. The funeral was conducted in the Rossville Methodist church, Tuesday, June 29. Interment was made in the Rossville cemetery. | |
| 8660 |  | Obituary- Osborn, Sabra Mrs. Sabra J. Osborn died at 12:30 p.m., April 15, at her home in Rossville, Kan., at the age of 73 years 11 months 11 days. Sabra J. Cole was born on May 4th, 1835, near Rockville, Ind., was married to Andrew McNeil in 1851 and was a war widow in 1862 with 5 children. One daughter died on July 2nd, 1872, one son died on Oct. 30th, 1908, and 3 children survive her: Mrs. Rosa Osborn of Topeka, Kan., Nathan McNeil of Liberal, Kan., and Mrs. Lizzie Estes, were at her bed side when she passed away. She leaves 23 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, one brother in Missouri, and one sister in California. Mrs. Sabra McNeil was married to Robert Osborn in 1875. He died on March 2nd, 1903. She was an earnest temperance worker and was one of the first to go out with the Mother Thompson crusade against the saloons and knelt on the streets many times in prayer in Terre Haute, Ind. She loved her country and its flag and often expressed the wish that she might be wrapped in it when dead. She was not afraid to take upon her shoulders the support of her five little children when her soldier husband died, and trusting in God she did nobly. She was a good mother, an earnest church worker, always giving liberally of her means to help the work along. After a long illness she passed away trusting in her Savior. She will be missed by her children and her friends, but her work was done and the Master called her home. Almest her last words were "Vital sparks of heavenly flame quiet O quiet this mortal brain; I trembling, hoping, lingering, flying, O this bliss dying: Cease, fond nature, cease thy strife, And let me languish into life." | 8661 |  | Obituary- Osborn, Sarah OSBORNE Sarah Ellen Burns was born near Spring Town, Indiana, October 11, 1870, and departed this life at Quinter, Kansas, February 16, 1936, aged 65 years, 4 months and 5 days. She was converted when quite young and has lived a conscientious and Christian life always. She was orphaned at the age of 4 years by the loss of her mother, being the youngest child of a family of seven children. She, with her father came to Rooks County, Kansas, in the spring of 1880, staying only a short time when they moved to Wilson, Kansas; then on back to Missouri where she had made her home after leaving Indiana at the age of 2 years. On March 4, 1897. she was united in marriage to Clint Osborne, of Rossville, Kansas, and in the spring of 1906 they moved to Quinter, Kan where they have resided since. She leaves to mourn her loss two sisters, Mrs. Emanuel Parker, of Wilbur, Washington, and Mrs. C. M. Reed, of Powersville, Mo., and her faithful and loving husband, Clint Osborne, of Quinter; besides other relatives and a host of friends in each community where she has resided. The body was brought to Rossville, Tuesday, and funeral services held at the Methodist church in charge of Rev. Horton. A quartet of ladies composed of Mrs. E. G. Griswold, Mrs. A. G. Wallerstedt. Mrs. William Hesse, and Mrs. E. E. Witter, sang, accompanied by Miss Edith Higginbotham. The pallbearers were Messrs. M. L. Whearty, Londa Cottle, E.G. Griswold, Dave Lambert, Frank Murray, Walter Cless. The body was placed in its final resting place in the Rossville cemetery. CARD OF THANKS – I wish to thank my Rossville friends and relatives for the many acts of kindness and sympathy extended during the burial service of my wife. | 8665 |  | Obituary- Osborn, Wilhelmina MRS. A. P. OSBORN Wilhelmine Augusta Matilda Eisermann was born May 8, 1865, and died January 15, 1940, aged 74 years, 8 months and 7 days. She was born near Toledo, Ohio, and came to Kansas as a child with her parents. She lived near Rossville in her early life. She was married to Albert P. Osborn, of Rossville and to their union was born four children, one son dying in infancy and Alice May Carman, of Omaha, Almon C. of Eckley, Colo., and Vernon G., of Palmer, Kansas surviving. Other relatives co mourn her departure are three sisters, Mrs. Mary Grooms, Topeka; Mrs. Laura Eisermann, Topeka; and Mrs. J. W. McCalvin of Soldier; and three brothers, George, Robert and Fred, who were unable to be here for the funeral owing to the bad weather. As a young woman she united with the United Brethren church, later with the Methodist church She also was a member of the Rossville Royal Neighbors. The family spent some years in Western Kansas and in Colorado and for ten years resided in Omaha. The past ten years she had resided near Clifton. Mr. Osborn preceded her in death about a year ago. Funeral services were held Friday Jan. 19, at 11 o’clock from the Rossville Methodist church, conducted by Rev. C. P. Broadfoot. Interment was in Rossville cemetery. Our dear loved one has gone to Heaven, Just a home of rest and peace; Where we know our dear Lord Is waiting with a hand of loving care. We will meet you dear one In that home so bright and fair. | 8666 |  | Obituary- Osborne, Elsie Girl Takes Her Own Life Despondency because of her father’s objections to a suitor is thought to have caused Miss Elsie Osborne, 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delaney Osborne, to take her own life, at her home four miles southwest of Willard. Monday morning by swallowing carbolic acid. The girl’s body, clad in a night gown, was found in her room. An empty carbolic acid bottle was found near, and she apparently had been dead for several hours. Miss Osborne is well known in Rossville. At one time she was employed in the I. T. Hopkins home. Only last week she had looked fora location in Rossville to open a millinery store. The funeral was held yesterday from the West Union church south of Willard. | |

She was born Sept. 12, 1913, at Wheeling, Mo., to Joseph and Nellie Vander Pool Hughes, lived in Ottumwa since 1955 and was a member of Faith Assembly of God. She married Roy Wood in 1930 and Russell Davis in 1952. She married Lawrence Osborne on April 18, 1964. Survivors: her husband; sons Richard E. Wood of Rossville, Kan., and David E. Wood of Memphis, Tenn.; daughters, Thelma G. Whitten of Mission, Kan., Shirley Clawson of Richmond, Mo., and Hope E. | 8668 |  | Obituary- Ostrander, Helen Helen “Loveign” Ostrander Helen “Loveign” Ostrander, 87, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, October 12,2014. She was born October 23, 1926 in Delia, Kansas, the daughter of John Robert and Flossie Mabel (Graham) Wyatt. She attended schools in Delia, KS. She was employed by Hallmark Cards and later retired from Josten’s Yearbook in Topeka. Loveign was a member of Elmont United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and held other offices, and member of United Methodist Women. Loveign married William A. “Bill” Ostrander on November 13,1943 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on May 28,1993. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda S. (Lonnie) Lawton, Lenexa, KS and Judy M. (Ed) Clutchey, Topeka; a son, David W. (Connie) Ostrander, Lawton, OK; seven grandchildren; llgreat-grandchildren; seven siblings, Bud Wyatt, Glen (Evelyn) Wyatt, Marian (Marion) Wyatt, Lloyd (Leota) Wyatt, Duane (Ruth) Wyatt, Dwight “Jimmy” Wyatt and Joyce Wyatt; sister-in-law, Doris Wyatt; sister-in-laws, Marie Rogers, Darlene Ostrander and Darlene Ostrander; brother-in-laws, Eugene “Gene” (Beverly) Ostrander and Ivan Ostrander; and over 60 nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Geneva Farrell, Margie Nocktonick and June Green and a brother, Howard Wyatt. A funeral ceremony will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. | 8669 |  | Obituary- Overbay, Dorothea Dorothea Overbay HORTON - Dorothea E. Overbay, 94, formerly of Rossville, died Wednesday, June 12,2002, at a Gainesville, Texas, care center. Mrs. Overbay was a tribal role secretary for the Pottawatomie Tribe of Shawnee, Okla., with the office in Kansas City, Kan. She was born Dec. 20,1907, in Rossville, the daughter of Joseph and Dora Riggs DeGraff. She graduated from high school in Rossville. She had lived in Kansas City for 25 years before moving to Dallas in 1991. She moved to Gainesville a year ago. Mrs. Overbay was a member of the Catholic faith, and she was on the roles of the Pottawatomie Tribe. She married Clarence Overbay. He died June 19,1991. Survivors include a brother, Paul DeGraff, Port Ludlow, Wash. Graveside services will be will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Horton Cemetery. Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Horton is in charge of arrangements. | |
| 8670 |  | Obituary- Overmyer, David J. David J. Overmyer David Joseph Overmyer, 63, passed away at his home in Lawrence, Kansas, on April 16, 2021. He was born on October 19, 1957 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of David and Margaret (Krogman) Overmyer. He was educated in the Rossville, Kansas school system, graduating in 1975, where he excelled as a track and field athlete. He held the Kansas state record in Cross Country racing for several years. He went on to Kansas State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree from the School of Journalism, in Radio and Television. While attending K-State, he was active in various organizations and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. After graduating from K-State, he ventured overseas to Seoul, South Korea. He taught English as a Second Language for several years at Yonsei University where he also hosted a Morning Radio Show. He then returned to the United States, and in 1991 earned his master’s degree in Education from the University of Kansas. Upon completing his master’s degree, he again ventured overseas, this time to Saudi Arabia where he worked for Saudi Aramco Corporation for eighteen years, teaching Preparatory Courses to students who planned to study abroad. During his time in Saudi Arabia, he learned to sail and even took a 23-week course to be a certified skipper of a full-sized yacht. He owned a small sailboat that he loved to sail on the Persian Gulf every season. When he wasn’t teaching or sailing, he enjoyed camping in the desert with friends, archaeological expeditions and falcon hunting. Upon retiring from Saudi Aramco in 2016, he moved to Vancouver, WA for a year and then finally settled back in Kansas where he purchased farmland in Osage County. He maintained a residence in Lawrence and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. David traveled the world and never knew a stranger. He enjoyed studying history, collecting antiques and artifacts, and making friends from every corner of the Earth. He loved spending time in nature and observing wildlife. David is survived by his father, David C. Overmyer of Topeka; three sisters, Cheryl (Paton) Eliot of Overland Park, Nancy Overmyer of Lawrence, and Mary (Ben) Simecka of Olathe. Two brothers: Jeff (Kathy) Overmyer of Silver Lake, and Tom Overmyer (Matt Born) of Fairview Park, Ohio. He is also survived by three nieces: Elizabeth Overmyer (Aaron Good) of Baldwin City, Amanda (Jason) Young of Lawrence, and Jenna Overmyer of St. Mary’s, four nephews: Heath Overmyer of Kansas City, Missouri, Adam (Katie) Simecka of De Soto, Austin (Hannah) Simecka of Olathe, and Eli Simecka of Lawrence, six great-nieces and two great-nephews. And his Aunt, Betty Bowers of Louisville, Kentucky and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Margaret K. Overmyer, in 2015. The family will greet friends during a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday April 30, 2021 at Central United Methodist Church, 1501 Massachusetts St., Lawrence, KS 66044. Memorial Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Private burial will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery. Margaret Eileen “Marge” Krogman was born November 24, 1929 in Seneca, Kansas, to Joseph and Margaret Ellen (nee McNally) Krogman. She was educated in the St. Peter and Paul parochial schools in Nemaha County, graduating near the top of her class academically at age sixteen in 1946. Shortly after graduation she moved with her family to Topeka where she attended the Clark School of Business. She married David C. Overmyer in 1948. Together, they had six children; Jeff, Cheryl, Nancy, David, Tom, and Mary. Marge devoted herself to the health and welfare of her children, taking a very active role in their formative years, serving as Den Mother, Room Mother, advisor, disciplinarian and confidante. After her children had grown and her marriage ended in divorce, Marge joined the work force again as a House Mother for the Sigma Nu Fraternity, first at Kansas State University, and then later at the University of Kansas. She also worked as a house Mother at Baker University. After suffering a massive and debilitating stroke in 2003, she resided at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa nursing facility. Marge is survived by three daughters; Cheryl (Paton) Eliot of Overland Park, KS; Nancy K. Overmyer of Topeka, KS, and Mary Simecka (Ben) of Olathe, KS. Three sons; Jeff Overmyer (Kathy) of Silver Lake, KS; David J. Overmyer of Saudi Arabia, and Tom Overmyer of Cleveland, OH. Seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister, Marilyn Berberick of Overland Park, KS., a brother in-law Harold Michaelis, Topeka, KS., a sister in-law Betty Bowers of Louisville, KY, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Kathryn Cortright and Gertrude Michaelis, and three brothers: Charles, Joseph, and Francis Krogman. Marge will be remembered lovingly by all who knew her for her generous spirit, her quick wit, intelligence, and compassion. Funeral services were Saturday, January 17, 2015. | |

Elvin W. Wilson, of 1717 North Taylor street, told E. M. Beal and Ed Mays, sheriff’s deputies that Owen stepped in front of the car and he did not see him in time to stop. Owen was leaving the home of his brother, A. J. Owen, where he had spent the day. Dr. H. L. Clark, coroner, was making further investigation into the accident today, but did not believe an inquest would be called. A resident of Shawnee county nearly all his life, Owen is survived by seven sisters, Mrs. Mattie Attebury, Rossville; Mrs. Alice Neiswender, route 6; Mrs. Elma Button, Topeka; Mrs. Clara Button, route 5; Mrs. Zelia Welton and Miss Olive Owen, both of Topeka, and Mrs. Ethel Ricketts, Burbank., Calif.; and two brothers, A. Irene will be most remembered as having an eternal love affair for 62 years with the man of her dreams, Marvin, and being a caring and nurturing mother and grandmother. She was born November 4,1921 in Rossville, KS to Marie and Frank Bravence. During WWII Irene worked at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant in Northwest Johnson County, then as a Supervisor at Hallmark Cards for thirteen years which she left to raise a family. Later she worked as a baker at the Dinkle Pie Shop in Topeka, KS. She was a graduate of Seaman High School and a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Topeka, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin J. Owen, on January 27, 2010, her parents, two sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by daughter Nancy L. Davis and her husband Jim; son; Mark J. Owen and his wife Lisa; daughter, Connie L. Smith and her husband Mike, nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was born in Roanoke County, Virginia, December 9, 1853. In 1889 he was married and his wife passed away in 1892. A few years after her death he came to Rossville and had made this community his home since. For many years he was employed at the old Holden ranch near Kingsville. The past fourteen years he had lived neighbor to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Parr and had been a constant helper with the outdoor chores at the Parr home. He was a true friend and perfect neighbor. His fine qualities as a citizen made him respected by all who knew him. Relatives surviving are his brother Robert Owen, Topeka; three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Hoskinson, Hugoton, Kansas; Mrs. Mattie McCarty and Mrs. Sallie Fuller, both of Stafford, Kansas. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Conwell Funeral Home in Topeka at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. C, P. Broadfoot, pastor of the Rossville Methodist church officiating. Mrs. Owen, who was one of the early settlers of Kansas, coming to the state in 1857 when it was still a territory, was widely known over the county, where she was prominent in the affairs of the Old Settlers’ association. Mrs. Owen was only 14 years old upon her arrival in Kansas but the next year taught one of the first schools in Shawnee county. Beside the Old Settlers’ association Mrs. Owen was a member of the Trinity Methodist church of Topeka, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. She married at an early age and is survived by the following 9 children: Mrs. W. S. Attebury of this community; Mrs. L. H. Neiswender, of Silver Lake; Mrs. D. L. She was united in marriage with Frank Owen, June 28, 1918 and they have made this city their home since, residing in the Howerton cottage on Orange street. He was born in Topeka on September 14, 1930, the son of Emmett Francis and Dovie Wiseman-Padgett. Clyde grew up in Topeka, and graduated from Hayden High School. After graduation he joined the Marine Corps in 1952. During his service time, he married Neva M. Smith on November 4, 1952 at St. Stanislaus Parish in Rossville. After leaving the Marine Corps, Clyde remained in the reserves as a Sergeant. Clyde was an electrician for Sante Fe Railroad for over 34 years, where he retired. He was a member of Post 31 of the American Legion in Rossville, and President of the Silver Elite Club in Rossville. Clyde collected coins and trains, but lived especially to care for his family that he dearly loved. He is survived by his wife Neva of 53 years; 3 children: Elizabeth Marie Turner of Virginia Beach, VA, Clyde Albert Padgett Jr, and Phillip Andrew Padgett, both of Topeka; a brother, William Francis Padgett of Topeka, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was born in Topeka on Feb. 25,1932, the son of Yldefonso and Simona (Rios) Padilla. He was a 1950 graduate of Topeka High School. Alfonso served in the U.S. Air Force from Oct. 27, 1950, to Sept. 27, 1954. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was assigned by Convair as a technical advisor to USAF personnel in the possibility of an Atlas intercontinental ballistic missile launch. He played baseball as a pitcher for the USAF and was a Golden Gloves champ. He received his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in November 1959 from Finlay Engineering College in Kansas City, Mo. He worked as an associate engineer for General Dynamics/Convair from August 1960 to December 1962. From January 1963 to February 1988 he was the senior flight test engineer for General Dynamics Space Systems and was assigned to the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. After retiring from this position he served as a consultant engineer from April 1989 to June 1991 with the International Technical Service providing engineering and consulting services to General Dynamics Space Systems at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. He also directed the USAF personnel in the installation of communication systems. Alfonso enjoyed golf, walking on the beach and exercising. His friends were his family. He was a member of the State Board of Registration for Architects and Professional Engineers, a member of Our Savior Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Topeka. She found the barn was on fire, and believing the children were in the barn she began to call pitifully for them. After continued calling she saw the little boy crouching out of the choking smoke, and wrestling him to a place of safety, she rushed back for the others. She saw far in among the burning contents what she took to be the form of Lottie, which proved to be correct, and she brought the child out in al all but suffocated condition. The eldest child, Adra, she could not find, but after the barn and contents were consumed, all that remained of the child were found in a sitting posture, with hands over face as though attempting to beat back the flames. Adra was a good sized girl for her years but the little bundle of shrunken, charred remains, hardly recognizable, went easily into a little casket hardly two feet long. Mr. M. Reser, Mr. Page’s father-in-law, 4 ˝ miles south, got out to the fire only to find his little granddaughter, Adra, dear to him, a little smoldering cinder. He hastened to St. Marys to get a casket of Undertaker Helm, and then hastened back to render what further assistance he could. In taking some corn and hay out to Mr. Page’s the following Monday, Mr. M. Reser’s wagon was overturned and he received serious injuries in the back, disabling him from further work, and for a time it was feared there was internal injury which might prove fatal. The funeral of Adra occurred at the Rossville M. E. church the next day. In going into the barn to play, Adra climbed up the ladder into the hired men’s sleeping quarters, and seeing a man’s vest hanging up she looked in the pockets and said, “Here are matches.” She struck one of the matches and called down to her brother and sister that the match was burning her fingers. The match did its fatal work rapidly, and the child must have fallen down into the manger, where the remains were found. Four horses were in the barn, only one of which escaped. Some 850 bu. of corn, 4 tons of hay, 3 sets of harness, a buggy, spring wagon and a cultivator were also destroyed. In fact, none of the traps in the barn were got out. The loss was about $1,000. In the very sad and severe loss, the neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Page did everything in their power to soften and alleviate their sufferings. Adra was much beloved, and in their sore affliction the parents and grandparents have the tender sympathy of this entire community. | |

Mrs. Page, the widow of G.M. Page, who ided in 1910, has made her home in Ault and Longmont ever since that date. The Pages were formerly residents of Longmont. Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Armstrong Mortuary at Easton. Services will be held from the First Christian church in Longmont with interment at the Longmont cemetery, where her husband is also buried. Mrs. Page was the mother of twelve children, three of whom died in early childhood. | 8695 |  | Obituary- Page, Dale Dale H. Page Dale H. Page, 76, Topeka, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 1991, at his home. W.W. Scamman, district coroner, said an autopsy showed Mr. Page died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right side of the head. Mr. Page was a retired colonel with the Kansas Army National Guard and had served in many Kansas Guard units. He entered the Kansas National Guard Jan. 27, 1937, and served with Headquarters Troop of the 114th Cavalry. He was promoted to second lieutenant in 1940. He served in the Army in Europe from 1940 to 1945 and took part in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day. He attained the rank of colonel Sept. 24, 1959. He served on active duty as the U.S. Property and Fiscal Officer for Kansas from 1964 until he was discharged July 31, 1974. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit and Bronze Star Award. He also received the Croix de Guerre from France. He was born July 1, 1914, north of Rossville, the son of Lawrence Franklin and Stella Mae Stuver Page, and was graduated from Rossville High School. Mr. Page was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rossville and a former member of Hesperian Lodge No. 111, AF&AM, in Rossville. He was a founding member of Capitol City Gun Club and a member of the National Rifle Association, National Guard Association and Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion. He was married to Helen Gould Goff Dec. 16, 1941, at Little Rock, Ark. She died Dec. 15, 1983. Survivors include a brother, Ralph Page, Rossville. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. The Ceremonial Platoon of the Kansas Army National Guard will conduct graveside services at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Page will lie in state at the funeral home until 9 p.m. today when the casket will be closed. | 8696 |  | Obituary- Page, Dean Dean R. Page Dean Rogers Page of Rossville died Monday, November 30, 2020 at the age of 92 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka after contracting COVID-19. Dean was born to Ralph and Ruth Page on January 13, 1928 in Willard, Kansas. One of two children, he graduated from Rossville High School in 1945 and earned a degree from Kansas State College in 1952. Dean married Mildred Crow of Dover on August 13, 1950, and together they had four children. Ever a consummate citizen soldier, Dean served two years on active duty in the Army and 30 years with the Kansas Army National Guard, retiring as a colonel. His service to his country inspired his son and two grandsons to serve, which brought him endless pride. Dean worked as an activity therapist and administrator at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka for 36 years, retiring in 1990. He also served his community as lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, and the Rossville United Methodist Church, in which he held many leadership positions. A longtime K-State football and basketball season ticket holder, Dean cheered for the Wildcats in good, bad and down-right ugly years. In fact, he was a lover of all sports, watching Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs defeat Tom Brady and the Buccaneers the evening before he passed. Dean was also an avid reader, lover of history, and active traveler. These interests were combined with his wife Mildred and other friends for multiple bus trips around the country. Dean was preceded in death by his wife Mildred and sister Phyllis Keller. He is survived by his children: Cherie Hodgson, Manhattan, Deana Turner, Topeka, Sandy Gilmore, Overland Park and Roger Page, Overland Park, as well as 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. His family brought him great joy, and in return he demonstrated how to live a life of devotion, generosity, and compassion. A private graveside service for immediate family will be held at the Dover Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place when it is safe to again gather in large groups. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Rossville United Methodist Church, sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, KS 66536. She was born June 4, 1917 on the family farm near Dover, the daughter of W.A. and Della Morrow Eddy. Betty had lived in Topeka before moving to Arizona where she lived many years. After the death of her husband Alfred she moved back to Kansas and lived with a nephew, Gordon and Connie Eddy. She had lived at Aldersgate for several years. Betty was a shoe salesperson and worked for Robinson's Shoes for many years. She was married to Alfred B. Page at Grove, OK. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2012. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and William Eddy. Survivors include her nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M.
