| 8701 |  | Obituary- Page, Flora Mrs. Flora Page Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary for Mrs. Flora May Page, 71, 1533 Wayne, who died Friday in a Topeka hospital. She was born Sept. 20, 1901, at Harveyville and lived in Topeka many years. She was employed by Santa Fe Railway about 40 years and was a comptometer operator before she retired in 1964. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Beulah Chapter No. 34, Order of Eastern Star, Median auxiliary, and Santa Fe Women’s Club. She W3S married to Glenn A. Page Oct. 23, 1928, in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Faye Shorten, Fort Scott; and two brothers, Fred Elbrader and Herbert Elbrader, both of Fort Scott. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assn. | |
| 8702 |  | Obituary- Page, Glenn GLENN A. PAGE Glenn A. Page, 75, Topeka, was found lead at his home Friday, March 12, 1976. He ;uffered an apparent heart attack. He was born March 8, 1901 in St. Clere, md had lived in Topeka since 1920. He worked for Bell Insurance Agency and Forbes Air Force Base and was employed in the State Sales Tax Department for the State of Kansas before he retired in 1966. He was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church, Siloam Lodge No. 225, AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a past monarch of Media Grotto. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moore, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Shawnee County Historical Society. He married Flora Mae Elbrader on October 23, 1928. She died January 5, 1973. He is survived by two brothers, Ralph Page, Rossville, and Dale Page, Topeka. Services were held Monday afternoon at 1:00 in the Newcomer-Diffenderfer Chapel. Rev. William Hurtig of the Rossville United Methodist Church was the officiating minister. Burial followed in the Rossville Cemetery. | 8703 |  | Obituary- Page, Isadella Mrs. Isadella Reser Page died Sunday night at Topeka. Mrs. Page was born in Indiana in 1867, and moved to Kansas while still a young child. She had lived in this community for many years and has many friends and relatives here. Mrs. Page’s health has been bad for the past four or five years and she was taken to the hospital last fall. Burial was made in the Rossville cemetery Wednesday afternoon. This community is deeply grieved and wishes to extend its sympathy to her family. MRS. W. W. PAGE Isadella Reser, daughter of Marcellus and Lettie Reser was born in Indiana, January 16, 1867. She departed this life February 26, 1933 at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 10 days after an illness of over four years. She came to Kansas with her parents at an early age and had lived in the vicinity of Rossville all her life. She was united in marriage to William Page, October 16, 1889 and to this union four children were born. Two daughters, Adra and Lottie, preceded her in death. One daughter, Mrs. Lettie Compton of Chicago and a son, Eston of the home address, survive her, as also her husband, W. W. Page. There are also three sisters, Mrs. Grover Kessler of Rossville, Mrs. Zella Elston and Mrs. Arminta McMullan, both of Fullerton, California; six brothers, Albert, Monterville and William of Rossville, Edward of Menoken, Chris of Holton, and John of Dover. There are also five grandchildren, one of whom, Elwys Fawl she has raised from babyhood, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Page was a good and thoughtful wife and mother, always ready to help her family in all their needs as long as she had strength. She was in poor health thru the last five years of her life, and had been given the tenderest of care by her devoted husband. She was a member of the Walnut Hill Methodist church. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Rossville, Wednesday afternoon, March 1, conducted by Rev. Horton. Old friends and neighbors acted as pall-bearers. Music was furnished by a ladies quartet composed of Mrs. Belva Jane Butters, Mrs. Arthur Wallerstedt, Mrs. C. E. Gresser and Mary Ann Hartzell, with Lucille Griswold at the piano. Burial was in the Rossville cemetery. CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank all our friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy in our hour of great sorrow. W.W. | 8704 |  | Obituary- Page, Lawrence L.F. Page Lawrence Franklin Page, 74, of this city, died at his home early Monday following a long illness. He was born in Jackson county near Holton, May 19, 1874, and had been a resident of Rossville community the last 47 years. He was a member of the Methodist church, of Hesperian lodge No. 111, A.F. and A.M. for 42 years, and of Modern Woodmen of America, all of Rossville. He was married on Dec. 7, 1898 at St. Clere, Kansas, and Dec. 7, 1948, Mr. and Mrs. Page would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Stella Page; three sons, Ralph F., of Rossville; Glenn A. and Dale H. of Topeka [,] two grandchildren, Dean and Phyllis Page of Rossville; two brothers, Nort and Bert of Greeley, Colo.; four sisters Mrs. Rose Myers of Rossville, Mrs. Alice Gideon and Mrs. May Sims of Newark, Ok., and Mrs. Cora Sorell of Denver. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. E.E. Harbour officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Lorene Harth and Mrs. Alice Boyd accompanied by Mrs. Irene Campbell. Pallbearers were, Charley Berkley, F.P. McCollough, L.B. Crow, Sidney Stumbaugh, M.L. Whearty and George Fawl. The body was taken to St. Clere where graveside services were conducted by Hesperian lodge A.F. and A.M. of Rossville. Relatives and friends from out-of-town who were in Rossville, Wednesday to attend the funeral service of Frank Page were, Mrs. Mae Sims, Mrs. Alice Gideon, Mrs. Ray Pickett and Mr. Harry Gideon of Newark, Okla., Mrs. Cora Sorell, Denver, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. Charles French, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jaquith, Mr. Albert Henry Jr., Mrs. A.A. | 8705 |  | Obituary- Page, Mildred Mildred L. Page ROSSVILLE- Mildred L. Page of Rossville quietly passed away Friday, December 4, 2009 at the age of 79 at Midland Hospice in Topeka after an extended illness. Mildred was born to Eunice Warner Crow and Cary Waldo Crow on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1930, in Western Shawnee County. One of eight children, she attended West Union, Willard, and Dover Grade Schools and graduated from Dover High School in 1948. On August 13, 1950, Mildred was married to Dean R. Page of Rossville and together they had four children. She was employed by the Shawnee County Extension Service, the Veteran's Office at Kansas State University, and the Menninger Foundation. In addition, Mildred was a dedicated and active member of Loyal Chapter #172 of the Eastern Star, P.E.O., the Rossville United Methodist Church, and the Menninger Hilltoppers. Mildred was preceded in death by brothers Dale and Billy Crow and sister Ruth Sage. She is survived by her husband; brothers and sisters: Ada Miller, Neil Crow, Byron Crow, and Alvin Crow; children: Cherie Hodgson, Manhattan, Deana Turner, Topeka, Sandy Page, Rossville, and Roger Page, Overland Park; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mildred will lie in state from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8th at the Rossville United Methodist Church, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Internment will follow at the Dover Cemetery. | 8706 |  | Obituary- Page, Pracilla Mrs. Priscilla Elwis Page Dead Mrs. Priscilla Elwis Page died at the home of her brother, J.L. Taylor, in Harrah, Oklahoma, March 24, 1910, aged 71 years 5 months and 7 days. Mrs. Page was born in Spalden, Lincolnshire, England, October 1[ ], 1838. She came to America with her parents when twelve years of age. November 22, 1862 she was married to Edwin Page at Dayton, Iowa County, Iowa. To this union were born two children, W.W. Page and Mrs. R.D. James, who with her two brothers, J.L. and J.E. Taylor still survive her. Her husband, Edwin Page, died at Rossville, Kansas, December 30, 1897, since which time her loneliness and loss was to the utmost extent relieved by the affection and ministry of loving children and kindred, together with her many friends and neighbors who often spoke of her in most appreciative terms. Thus the rapid story of another earthly life is finished. We have gently laid away her body amidst a bower of fragrant flowers, emblematic to us of the beauty of a remembrance we will always cherish, and though with tears at the parting, submit to Him who never fails to furnish a compensation in the end for all our losses. | 8707 |  | Obituary- Page, Ralph 1 Ralph Page ROSSVILLE — Ralph Page, 90, Rossville, died Monday, Sept. 7, 1992, at his rural Rossville home. Mr. Page was a farmer and horseman before he retired. He was born July 16, 1902, in St. Clere, the son of Lawrence Franklin and Stella Mae Stuver Page. He spent most of his life in the Rossville community. Mr. Page was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rossville, Lake Lodge No. 50, AF&AM, and Loyal Chapter No. 176 of Order of Eastern Star, both in Silver Lake, and a charter member of the Rossville Palomino Saddle Club. He was married to Ruth Pearl Rogers Dec. 26, 1924, in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Jane Keller, Rossville; a son, Dean Roger Page, Rossville; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Rossville. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Page will lie in state after 3 p.m. today at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys and an hour before service time at the church. | 8708 |  | Obituary- Page, Rhoda Rhoda Page Dies of Cancer Services for Mrs. Rhoda Page, 68, of Grove, were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rossville Methodist Church with burial in Rossville Cemetery. She passed away Thursday, July 15, at Topeka’s St. Francis Hospital. She had been hospitalized since June 23. She was born November 5, 1896 at Oskaloosa, Kansas, the youngest of the thirteen children of Chris and Elnora Hofmann. Orphaned at six she was raised by her sister, Mary C. Bliss. After graduation from Oskaloosa High School she taught in rural Jefferson County schools until May 24, 1919 when she married Eston Page at the home of Rev. Nelson in Topeka. And has lived in Grove Township ever since. She joined the Oskaloosa Methodist Church at the age of 15, transferred to the Grove Walnut Hill Methodist Church, and then to Rossville Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Grove HDU. Her husband, Eston Page, preceded her in death on March 12, 1955. She is survived by three children, William Page of the home, Mary Ellen Clay of Onaga, Kansas, and Esther Knowlton of LaMont, Mo.; five grandchildren, her sister-in-law’s orphaned children whom she raised, Harold Fawl of Mr. Carmel, Ill. and Elwys Fawl Imler of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, Otis Hofmann of Wadsworth, Kansas; and a sister, Meta Austin of Kansas City, Mo. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Topeka was in charge of arrangements as Lawrence Gabel originated from her home town. The Rev. Allan Uthoff officiated at the service. Mrs. Irene Campbell played the organ and Mrs. Mary Jane Berkey sang. Pallbearers were Harrison Shenk, Eugene McRoberts, Edward Smatla, Herbert Kalcik, Gordon McLin and Elmer Crawshaw. | |

She was born August 15, 1903, near Willard, the daughter of Arizona Lincoln and Mary Jane “Jennie” Lyttle Rogers. She lived in the Willard area most of her life. She was graduated from Rossville High School in 1921, and attended college in Emporia to receive a teaching certificate. She taught at Willard Grade School several years. She was employed several years at F.W. Woolworth’s in Topeka, Boyd, and Rawling and House Grocer; in Rossville. She was the widest member of the Rossville United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Loyal Chapter #176 O.E.S., Silver Lake, and the Ladies Literary and Music Circle at Rossville. She was married to Ralph Franklin Page December 26,1924, in Topeka. He died September 7, 1992. She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Keller, Rossville; one son, Dean Page, Rossville; one sister, Helen F. Barnett, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Her service was at 1:00 Wednesday at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Interment was in the Rossville Cemetery under direction of Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys. | 8712 |  | Obituary- Page, William Wright W. W. PAGE William Wright Page was born June 24th, 1864 in Iowa county, Iowa He died at the home of his son Eston Page, October 13th, 1938. He was 74 years, three months and 19 days old. He came to Kansas in 1878 with his parents and settled west of Silver Lake. He has been a veteran farmer for many years in the Grove Community. And to the Silver Lake Odd Fellows and the Masonic Lodge he has been a gracious member. He was united in marriage to Isabelle Reser, October 16th, 1889 at Rossville, Kansas. They had four children. Ada and Mrs. C. C. Fawl have preceded him in death, and Eston Page lives in the home community, Silver Lake, Kansas, while Mrs. O. W. Compton resides at Urbana, Mo. He is also survived by six grandchildren and an uncle, Mr. John E. Taylor of Topeka. Funeral services were held in the 'Rossville Methodist church, Saturday October 15, at 2 o’clock conducted by the pastor Rev. William Hartford. The pallbearers were Messrs. J. E. Croasdale, J. B. Davis, J. A. McRoberts, J. M. Kalcik, Byron Moats and E. P. Bahner. Interment was in Rossville cemetery. She was born December 16, 1932, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Theodore and Dorothy Mendenhall Cottrell. She grew up in the Wichita and Ellsworth areas, and was graduated from Ellsworth High School. Most of her adult life, she had lived in the Rossville community. On November 3, 1950, she married Edward E. Paine at Ellsworth. He died February 11, 1988. Survivors include four sons, Edward P. Paine and Mark L. Paine, both of Topeka, Terry L. Paine, Wamego, and Jonny E. Paine, Maple Hill; a daughter, Tracy A. Paine, Topeka; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Burial was Saturday in the Rossville Cemetery. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville. Survivors include four sons, Edward P. Paine and Mark L. Paine, both of Topeka, Terry I. Paine Wamego, and Jonny E. Paine, Maple Hill, a daughter, Tracy A. Her mother, Mrs. Sadie Baird, Rossville, two brothers, Charles Baird of Neosho, MO., and Vernon Baird of Topeka; four sisters, Mrs. Richard Verhage, Tonganoxie, Mrs. Grace Owens, Houston, TX., Mrs. Jean Mee, Canadian, TX., and Mrs. Wilma Dolezilek, Rossville; and five grandchildren. Terry was born November 13, 1953 at Ellsworth, the son of Edward E. and Darlene M. Cottrell Paine. He was raised in the Rossville community and graduated from Rossville High School in 1971. He was a missionary- pastor/welder. Terry had worked for USD#321 and USD#320. He was a welder for many years. Terry was saved and baptized in 1997 at the Rossville Bible Church. He served as a missionary and pastor for the Potawatomi, Kickapoo and the Southern Ute Tribes. Terry served as an assistant pastor for the Nuuciu Bible Baptist Church in Ignacio, CO. He was a member of Easton Baptist Church in Des Moines. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, and two children, Chad Everett and Laney Noel. On August 27, 1973 he was united in marriage to Leslie Sumner at the Rossville City Park. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his son, Yancy Paine, Topeka; three daughters, Teri Boulet, Long Beach, MS, Katie Paine and Morgan Paine both of Topeka; three brothers. Edward Paine, Topeka, Jonny Paine, Maple Hill and Mark Paine Topeka; his sister, Tracy Paine, Topeka; an uncle Kent Paine, Rossville; five grandchildren. Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M. Tracy was the youngest of five children who spent their childhood years in Rossville, Kansas. Later in life she moved to Topeka where she spent the rest of her life. Tracy was an avid junker who loved to find bargains at auctions and garage sales. She bought and sold many fantastic antiques in her years of collecting. Tracy was also a collector of animals. She loved and cared for many pets through her life, beginning as a child. Tracy is preceded in death by her parents Eddie and Darlene Paine as well as an older brother Terry Paine. Palmer, who died October 15, in Golden, Colo., where she had been living with her daughter, Mrs. Mamie Bruner, the last of the first settlers of Silver Lake is gone. Her daughter, Mamie, was the first white child born in Silver Lake, and is the only surviving member of the family. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Palmer came from Illinois to Silver Lake in April, 1868, and were the parents of five children -- three boys and two girls. They owned the land east of Madore street and it was known as the Palmer addition. Mr. and Mrs. Palmer donated the land for both the Baptist and Methodist churches and also for the grade school. Mr. Palmer died June 16, 1905 at the age of 76 years. Mrs. Palmer lived to be 95. Mrs. Bruner and her husband brought the body to Silver Lake. Funeral services were held in the Baptist church, of which she was a member. The sermon was delivered by Rev. Brown, pastor of the Methodist church, at 1:30 o'clock, Thursday, October 17, 1929. Knox County coroner Sydney Wulfenbarger said he believed Bert Parks about 70, of Lakeland, Florida, died of a heart attack. He had been treated by a doctor Friday night.” “The coroner theorized Parks had the seizure while sitting in a chair, then fell, striking the suit case and jarring the lid so it closed on his head” | |

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, April 24. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ruth Hesse and Lorene Parr with Miss Edith Higginbotham as accompanist. Pallbearers were Joe D. Parr, Chas. Parr, Shirley Parr, Ray Parr, James O. Parr, and Frank Welton. Burial was in the Rossville cemetery. We wish to express our sincere appreciation for the sympathy and helpfulness of friends and neighbors during the illness and death of our father; also our gratitude for the music and flowers, with their message of comfort. THE CHILDREN Mrs. Grace Wherry returned to her home in Topeka, Saturday, following a month’s stay in Rossville during the last illness and death of her father, A. J. Parr. Parr, 61, of the U.S. rehabilitation service, died Wednesday night in a Topeka hospital where he had been confined after a severe heart attack last week. He was born February 3, 1894, in Rossville and was a teacher in the Rossville schools before moving to Topeka 17 years ago. He was a member of the Rossville Masonic Lodge, Topeka Scottish Rite bodies and the Lowman Memorial Methodist church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louise Parr, of the home, 834 Jewell, Topeka; a son, Col. Stanley Parr, Hampton, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Louise Parr, of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Wehry, Topeka, and Blanche Parr, Rossville; two brothers, Glenn Parr, Kansas City, Mo., and Lester Parr, Silver Lake; and four grandchildren. | |

| 8750 |  | Obituary- Parr, Cyrene Mrs. Parr Succumbs to Paralytic Stroke Mrs. Cyrene M. Parr, aged 60 years, 2 months and 7 days, wife of A. J. Parr, passed away at 11 o'clock last Friday evening, at the family home on the corner of Orange and Perry streets, after an illness of several weeks from paralysis. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Rossville Christian church, conducted by the Rev. G.G. Horne, of Topeka, pastor of the church. Interment was made in Rossville cemetery. Cyrene M. Holter was born in Meggs county, near Pomery, Ohio, April 29, 1857. At the age of eighteen she came to Kansas in the year of 1875. For two years after her arrival she taught school at DeSoto, Kansas, then gave up teaching to enter the state university at Lawrence where she completed the course as offered at that time. On March 19, 1879 she was united in marriage to Andrew Jackson Parr at Lawrence, Kans., and soon after they moved to Shawnee county, and made this community their home for the past 44 years. At an early age Mrs. Parr united with the United Brethren church in Ohio, but in May 8, 1908, she united with the local Christian church, under the Ministry of J. Ira Junes and had been consistent member of this faith until her death. She leaves to mourn her decease her husband and five children, Mrs. Grace Pederson, of Topeka; Mr. G. A. Parr, of Kansas City; Mr. L.O. Parr, Silver Lake; Miss Blanche Parr and Mr. A. S. Parr of Rossville. |
