| 8951 |  | Obituary- Perry, Joseph Joe Perry Dies in Oklahoma The news of the death of Mr. Joe Perry, of Shawnee, Okla., was received here by his relatives last week. Mr. Perry died on Monday, January 10th, 1921, at the age of 83 years and 11 months at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Pring of Shawnee, after a short illness from blood poisoning which resulted from an injury to lone limb he received some time ago while chopping wood. The funeral service was held at Shawnee and the body brought to Neodesha, Kans., for burial in the cemetery where his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Perry and sister, Mrs. Sam Blandon are buried. Mr. and Mrs. Perry had been married 60 years. Mr. Perry and family lived here many years ago and it was he and his brother Mr. Reed Perry of Holton who in 1869, built and operated the flour mill north of town now known as the B. F. Reser mill. Mr. Perry is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters, his brother Mr. Reed Perry of Holton, his sister, Mrs. Sue Fredrickson of Denver, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hass and his niece, Mrs. Frank Stumbaugh of Rossville | |

| 8953 |  | Obituary- Perry, Kenneth Kenneth JameS Perry Kenneth James Perry, 55, Topeka, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1992, at a Topeka hospital. Mr. Perry was a painter. He was born April 3, 1936, at Delia, the son of Alva and Mary Elsie Luttig Perry. He moved to Topeka in 1953. Perry was a member of Painters Local Union No. 96 AFL-CIO for more than 35 years. He was married to Mary Ann Finner Sept. 5, 1953, at Holton. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Vickie Puff, Nesbit, Miss., and Bev Blassingame and Linda Huntsman, both of Topeka; two sons, Ron Perry and Don Perry, both of Topeka; his mother, Mary E. Perry, Holton; a sister, Delores McClintock, Topeka; three brothers, Harley Perry and Vernon Perry, both of Topeka, and Ray Perry, Kansas City, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Perry will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at the mortuary where family and friends will meet from 7 until 8 p.m. today. | |

Mrs. Perry was a telephone operator at Rossville from 1946 to 1953. She and her husband then owned and operated the Perry Liquor Store for 20 years at Rossville. She was born May 26, 1904, at St. Marys, the daughter of John Henry and Catherine Seitz Meyer. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and Altar Society and the Golden Ages Club, all at Rossville. She was married to Milton R. Perry Oct. 5, 1935, at St. Marys. He died April 21, 1975. A daughter, Sandra Kay Perry, died in 1945. Survivors include a son, Gerald “Jerry” Perry, Rossville; a daughter, Mrs. Charlene Corbin, Elizabethtown, Ky.; a brother, Clarence Meyer, St. Marys; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Immenschuh, Silver Lake, and Mrs. Lucille Clark, Topeka; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Rossville. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. | 8956 |  | Obituary- Perry, Martin Martin Perry Word of the death, on April 20, of Martin Perry, of Fredonia, Kans., was received here this week. He was a son of the late Joe and Mary Perry. The family had lived here near Rossville until he was a young man 21 years of age, then with his parents and grandparents, all moved to Wilson county fifty years ago. He had been in very poor health for some time with a heart ailment. His widow and one son survive him. He was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at Fredonia, Kans. | |
| 8957 |  | Obituary- Perry, Mary PERRY Mary Laurinda Burnett, daughter of Benjamin and Mary Burnett, was born at Rock Creek, Virginia, August 9, 1851, and died at her home near St. Clere, Kansas, September 24 1928. She came with her parents to Kansas when four years of age. September 13, 1866, she was married to Henry Perry. Not long after this they settled on the farm north of St. Clere where she passed away. Mrs. Perry was the mother of thirteen children. Three of them and their father preceded Mrs. Perry in death. She is survived by ten children, nineteen grand children and two great grandchildren. Her surviving children are: Will Perry of Havensville, Bessie A Kemper of Richmond, Calif.; Ben Perry of Havensville; Mrs. Florence Siegle and Walter Perry of Emmett; Richard of Havensville; Mrs. Elva M. Flanary of Maple Hill; Elmer Perry of Emmett and Mrs. Nellie B. Siegle of Lakeland, Florida. Mrs. Perry’s death was preceded by a year of failing health and three weeks of confining illness. She was of a cheerful disposition, was a loving mother, a kind neighbor, always thoughtful of others. The funeral service which was very largely attended was held in the St. Clere church conducted by Rev. Wm. M. Mayfield, pastor of the Christian church in Soldier, who was in touch with the family in his ministry at Mr. Olive more than twenty-five years ago. | 8958 |  | Obituary- Perry, Mary B. Mary Perry September 21, 1934 — July 29, 2021 Mary Beth Muckenthaler Perry, 86, passed away at a Topeka hospital Thursday, July 29, 2021. She was born the daughter of Manuel M. and Bertha G. Stitz Muckenthaler in St. Marys on September 21, 1934. Mary Beth grew up in the St. Marys community and graduated from St. Marys High School. She lived in California for several years while Roger served in the Korean War, moving back to St. Marys in 1960. Mary Beth worked for Bayer Stone Inc. as a sales associate/secretary for many years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Mary Beth enjoyed attending and was very active in the St. Marys High School Alumni Association reunions. She was a member of the Literary Club. Mary Beth was involved and supported her husband Roger, an officer of the NAPUS, and enjoyed their trips when Roger attended conventions. Mary Beth Muckenthaler and Roger K. Perry were united in marriage on March 5, 1952, in St. Marys. He preceded her in death on November 26, 2016. She also was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son David and son Jeff; her daughter Tricia Garver; a brother, William Muckenthaler. Survivors include her children, Nancy (Roy-deceased) Darting, Janet (Vern) Sumner, Rossville, Keith Perry, and Andy (Donna) Perry, St. Marys; son-in-law, Roger Garver, St. George; three brothers James (Theresa) Muckenthaler, Emporia, Roy (Judy) Muckenthaler, St. Marys, and Frank (Teri) Muckenthaler, Colorado Springs, CO.; her sister, Margie (Don-deceased) Kincaid, St. Marys: sisters-in-law, CeCe Muckenthaler, St. Marys, Ada Heemstra, Redlands, CA, and Sharon Couchois, Chino Hills, CA; 17 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Cremation will follow the service with private inurnment in Mt. | 8959 |  | Obituary- Perry, Milton 1 Milton Perry ROSSVILLE — Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church here for Milton R. Perry, 67, who died Monday at his home here. He apparently had a heart attack. He owned and operated Perry Plumbing and Electric at Rossville many years before he retired in April, 1973. He was born April 13, 1908, at St. Marys and spent his early life in the St. Marys community. He lived at Frankfort eight years and later at Hope in Dickinson County three years before he moved to Rossville in 1946. He formerly was employed by Kansas Power and Light at Frankfort and had been manager of the Kansas Power and Light office at Hope. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church at Rossville. He was married to Leona Meyer Oct. 15, 1935, at St. Marys. She survives. A daughter, Sandra Kay Perry, died in 1945. Survivors include a son, Jerry Perry, Rossville; a daughter, Mrs. Charlene Ann Corbin, Lynn Haven, Fla.; three brothers, George Perry, Blair, Okla., Clayton Perry, St. Marys, and Leo Perry, 3310 Eveningside Drive. Topeka; three sisters, Mrs. Lila Struble, St. Marys, and Mrs. Glora Lee Riddle and Mrs. Delores Martin, both of Denver, Colo.; and five grandchildren. | 8961 |  | Obituary- Perry, Roger ROGER K. PERRY St. Marys - Roger K Perry, 84, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Oakley Place in Rossville. He was born September 8,1932 at St. Clere, the son of Joseph and Ethel Littwin Perry. Roger was raised in the St. Clere and St. Marys communities. He graduated from St. Marys High School in 1950. Mr. Perry served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Roger lived in California for nine years, moving back to St. Marys in 1959. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years, serving as Postmaster for 31 years before his retirement. Roger was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a member of Aubert-Walls VFW Post No. 7796 in St. Marys and Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31, of the American Legion, in Rossville. Roger was a prominent and active member of NAPUS where he served in both state and national positions. Roger served several terms on the city council and also served as mayor of St. Marys. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Louis, an infant son, David, son, Jeffrey Perry, daughter, Tricia Carver and son-in-law, Roy Darting. On March 5, 1952 he was united in marriage to Mary Beth Muckenthaler in St. Marys. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Keith Perry and Andy (Donna) Perry all of St. Marys; two daughters, Nancy Darting and Janet (Vem) Sumner all of Rossville; a brother, Don Perry, CA; two sisters, Ada (Bob) Heemstra and Sharon (Chris) Couchois all in CA; son-in-law Roger Carver, St. George; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. | 8962 |  | Obituary- Perry, Ronald 1 Ronald D. Perry August 2, 1946 - October 2, 2022 It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dear Ron. Ron passed away peacefully on October 2, 2022 at his home in Lawrence with his wife by his side from complications of diabetes. He was 76 years old having been born on the 2nd day of August, 1946 in Wamego, KS to Cletus L. and Dorothy P. (Larison) Perry. His mother would say it was the hottest day of the year. Ron was raised in St. Marys and graduated from St. Marys High School and Kansas State Teachers College (now Emporia State) with a degree in Business Management. He began his banking career at Southern Arizona Bank and Trust, Tucson, AZ and upon moving back to Kansas worked at St. Marys State Bank and Kaw Valley Bank, Topeka. He worked for Internet Mortgage, Overland Park prior to retiring for health reasons. He married Peggy Rezac and they later divorced. On December 23, 2006 he married Carla (Reese) Hoobler and with this marriage gained a daughter. Ron was a very social guy who Carla often referred to as Mr. Never Met a Stranger. If you met him he would know everything about you and your life by the end of the conversation. Ron loved sports but his passion was baseball having played as a kid, in college and later town team men’s softball. He was fortunate to take many summer baseball trips with friends to visit numerous ball parks. Ron and Carla made several visits to Arizona for spring training and visited the Baseball Hall of Fame. He loved good single malt scotch, dirty martinis and scratcher tickets. He was a member of the St. Marys Methodist Church and attended First United Methodist Church, Lawrence where he served as usher. He was a prior board member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters in Topeka and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Ron had great respect for our military veterans and supported many veteran causes. Ron is survived by his wife Carla of Lawrence and daughter Sarah (Dale) Nordlund, Valley Falls. He is also survived by his sister Sheryl Dick, Berryton and his brother Dan (Linda) Perry, Emmett. Ron was blessed with lots of nieces and nephews all of whom he adored. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Rick(Mary Ellen) Reese and Ron (LeAnna) Reese. He was predeceased by his parents, a niece Dana Perry and brother-in-law Gary Dick. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 7, 2022, at Piper Funeral Home. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery in St. Marys. Ron will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, October 6, 2022 at the funeral home. She was raised in Rossville and graduated from Rossville High School in 1997, where she was a member of the drill team. She moved to St. Marys after her graduation. Ms. Persons was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church. Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Pamela and Jim Hays, Rossville; her father, Charles Persons, Topeka; a brother, David Persons, Rossville; her fiancee, David J. She was born January 25,1979, in Topeka, the daughter of Charles A. and Pamela Marshall Persons. She grew up in the Rossville community and was graduated from Rossville High School in 1997. She was a member of the Drill Team in high school. She moved to St. Marys after graduation. Angie had worked at Katie’s Komer, the First National Bank, and was currently a Secretary/Agent for American Family Insurance Company in St. Marys. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Marys. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Pamela and Jim Hays, Rossville; her father, Charles A. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Vietnam War after graduating from Soldier High School in 1968. Chuck never knew a stranger. He will be remembered for his quick wit and contagious laughter. He was always the life of the party. He lived in Delia and Topeka before he moved to Silver Lake Dec. 18, 1976. Mr. Peters was a member of the United Methodist Church and Lake Lodge No. 50, AF&AM, both in Silver Lake. He was married to Ada B. Cuffel June 19, 1930, in Topeka. She died Dec. 9, 1981. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Shelby Swain, Topeka; two sons, Russell N. Peters, Silver Lake, and Harold L. | 8969 |  | Obituary- Petit, Larry Larry D. Petit, 81, of Rossville, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born on August 31, 1930 in Salina, Kansas to Gerald "Bo" and Florence "Flo" Petit. Larry graduated from Marquette High School. He was a U.S. Marine veteran that served during the Korean War. Larry was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Arab Shrine Temple. He retired from DuPont where he was a mechanic. He later worked for Flexel as a contractor. On February 20, 1960 he married Sharon Selbach in Kansas City. She survives. Larry is also survived by his children, Michael (Deborah) of St. Louis, MO, Suzanne Petit of Topeka and Dan (Julie) Petit of Berryton, his sister, Ruth Murphy of Louisiana, four grandchildren, Amber, Joseph, Ryan and Cory and one great grandchild, Parker. At his request, there will be no services and no flowers, a card would be appreciated. His legacy will be his love and joy that he freely and naturally gave to so many. One death, dozens of wrecks blamed on snow and ice Snowy and icy roads which caused one fatal accident on a Shawnee County bridge near Willard, kept authorities busy Friday night handling one car wreck after another. A Topeka man in his 30s was killed in a two-vehicle accident around 4:30 p.m. when he lost control of his two-door car on the icy Willard Bridge and slammed head on into a southbound pickup truck, Sheriff Dave Meneley said. The fatality victim’s name wasn’t immediately released. No one else was injured. | |

She married Calvin J. Pfannenstiel on Jan. 7, 1985, in Denver. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, C.J. He was born on a farm on March 21, 1929, in Munjor, Kansas, the son of Peter and Mary Korbe Pfannenstiel. Ralph was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. On May 11, 1948, Ralph was united in marriage to Mary Anne Schuster. Mary Anne passed away on January 11, 2009. Ralph was employed in law enforcement for forty-four years. He leaves behind six children, Terry (Marcia) Pfannenstiel, Nancy (Richard) Heideman, Gary (Vicki) Pfannenstiel, Larry (Rita) Pfannenstiel, Cindy (Scott) Hawkins, and Bob (Nancy) Pfannenstiel; two sisters, Therese Schimm and Marilyn (Al) Blevins; 29 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. Preston Wayne Pierce of Madison, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Newman Regional Health at the age of 79. Preston was born on December 21, 1940 in Potwin, Kansas the son of Wayne Cameron and Virginia Pauline Gorman Pierce. Sharon’s Story Sharon Ione Davis entered this world on December 13th, 1942 to her parents Donice Ione (Marney) and Francis E. Davis of Rossville, Ks. Sharon spent her childhood growing up on the Mulvane Ranch and Farms West of Rossville where her father had became Manager and a Business Partner. The old ranch house and most of the ranch buildings were destroyed by the flood of 1951 when the Kansas River overflowed its banks. A new ranch home was built after the flood waters receded and the Davis family remained to rebuild the ranch. Sharon participated in Brownie and Girl Scouts as a young girl and was a member of the Rossville 4-H Club where she raised and entered her prize winning 4-H calves in the 4-H Fair. Sharon was attending a sewing class in the Home Economic’s Department at Rossville High School on January 14th, 1958 when her mother drove by ‘honking the horn’. ‘Donice’ was on the way to the hospital to deliver Sharon’s younger sister ‘Candace Davis’. Despite their age difference, Candace and Sharon formed a loving relationship and shared many good times growing up and throughout their lives. Sharon’s Classmates will remember Sharon as a cheerleader in high school and riding around in her ‘Classic 1959 Black Impala’. Many ‘Happy Days’ were spent with her friends and classmates having numerous slumber parties, campouts, horse-back and hay-rack rides, and just getting off the school bus in time to watch Dick Clark’s American Band Stand. It was always ‘fun’ to go to the Community Center on Saturday nights for a tri-city ‘sock hop’sponsored by KTOP Disk Jockey Charlie Christian. [continued on file 2] | |
| 8984 |  | Obituary- Pierce, Sharon 2 Sharon graduated from Rossville High School in 1960 and in 1961 she earned a Secretarial Certificate from the Clarks Business School in Topeka, Kansas, where she became employed as a secretary in the office at the Topeka State Hospital. In 1963, she moved to Phoenix, AZ and she obtained a position as a Secretary and Title Clerk for Stewart Title. A few years later, she returned from Phoenix to Rossville to work with her dad on the ranch. ‘Francis Davis’ was over-heard saying that ‘Sharon’ was one of the best truck drivers that he had ever hired to fill silos. Sharon loved horses and was good at barrel racing. She was often seen in local parades and rodeos. In 1971 she was elected Queen of the Rossville Centennial and rode in the Centennial’s parade in a horse drawn carriage. Sharon’s sister Candace, and her dad, Francis Davis, also rode their horses in the Rossville Centennial. Sharon enjoyed home making, working with her mother and sister in arts and crafts, especially ceramics. Ranch hands would testify that she was a ‘good cook’ too. In 1978 and having an adventuresome spirit Sharon wanted a new career so she took her love of horses to the Denver, Colorado area where she had answered an ad for a ‘Training Assistant and Groomsman’ in the horse racing business. Thus, she assisted in training and groomed numerous race horses in Denver, Lincoln, Omaha, and even in Chicago. She met her future husband, Michael Pierce in Nebraska. They were married in Lincoln on June 17, 1980 and they became business and marriage partners for over 42 years. The couple settled in Paulden, AZ, a small community located near Prescott, AZ . Not only did Sharon and Mike race, own and train horses they sponsored two Venezuelan families obtain U. S. citizenship and they were also ‘Big Brothers’ to two boys. Together, Sharon and Michael continued in the horse racing business until December of 2018 when they sold the last of their horses in order for Michael to devote full time to caring for Sharon. Sharon Passed away on April 30, 2019, in Prescott, AZ after a long illness. A Memorial Service will be held at the Rossville Cemetery near her parents gravesites with Piper’s Funeral Home of St. Marys, Ks. officiating on May 25th at 11:00 a.m. Sharon is survived by her husband, Michael Pierce of Paulden, AZ and Sharon’s younger sister, Candace Davis of Monett, Missouri along with numerous cousins both on the Marney side, as well as the Davis sides of the family. The best way to describe Tyler is as a kind and steadfast man. He went out of his way to support and care for those he loved. An extra hand to move, a place to sleep, a couple bucks when down on your luck. Just a fraction of the things he did without qualm or hesitation. He was an incredibly talented musician, especially with guitar and drums. He loved movies. We have many fond memories of seeing the latest one with him and other times watching the most awful B movies He was unflappable. Never angry, always understanding. The troubles of life that grab all of us seemed to just roll off him like a wave on a beach. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. She received her early education in the Rossville schools at which place her parents resided until they moved to Clay County, after having spent five years in Washington state. On July 26, 1918, she was united in marriage with Mr. Ray Pierson, of Broughton, Kans. bravely bidding good-bye to the young husband until his return from the world war a year later, and just four days before the second anniversary of this wedded life, the young wife was called from the earthly home, July 22, 1920, aged 20 years and 18 days. Besides the bereaved husband, she leaves her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. N.E. Keener, and two brothers, Lee and Harold; her husband's parents, to whom she was the same as their own, and two grandparents, besides many other relatives and friends, for whom life will seem less bright, now that the brightness of her sweet smile is seen no more yet the sunshine of her presence will linger in loving memory of deeds as well as smiles. Her death was due to acute indigestion which developed Wednesday. She was taken to the Clay Center hospital for an operation, but was too far gone upon arrival and died Thursday. Funeral services were held at the Broughton Baptist church last Saturday and interment in the Broughton cemetery. Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert D. Van Nordstrand of Scotia, N. Y. where she had lived for several years. The body was brought to Rossville, Kans., January 11, for funeral services and interment and was met by many relatives and friends. Mrs. Pierson was born August 18, 1858, at Orleans, Indiana. She lived in and near Rossville for a short time in 1900 and while here three little daughters died and were buried in the Rossville cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert Van Nordstrand, of Scotia, N. Y.; three grandchildren, Robert, Philip and Lawrence Van Nordstrand, one sister, Mrs. Mary Gay, of Wymore, Nebr.; three brothers, Mr. John Jones of Frankfort, Kans., Mr. Wm. D. Jones of Arcadia, Nebr., Mr. Marion R. Jones of North Loup, Nebr. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Shipley met Mrs. Van Nordstrand and children and took them and many of the out of town relatives to their home for dinner. The services were held at two o’clock January 11, in the Rossville Methodist church, Rev. O. E. Brown officiating. Music was furnished by a ladies quartet. The body of a Mrs. Pierson, was shipped to Rossville Tuesday, from Schenectady, New York, for burial in Rossville cemetery. A funeral service was held in the Methodist church conducted by Rev. O. E. Brown. The deceased lady was a former Rossville resident, living here about 1900-1902. Three of her children died while the family resided here and were laid to rest in Rossville cemetery. After leaving Rossville Mrs. Pierson went to Manhattan and educated her remaining daughter. This daughter after graduation married and located in the New York city. She accompanied the body here for burial. | |

She was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Mayetta, the daughter of George L. and Helen Claybear Williams. She lived in the Mayetta area the past several months. Mrs. Pilcher was a member of Prairie Band of the Potawatomi Indian Tribe and Indian Drum Religion. A son, Clayton Paul Pilcher, died July 16, 1989. Survivors include three foster chil-dren, Daniel Harold, Fonda Crow and John Coon, all of Chicago; her stepfather, Louis Oliver, Mayetta; and five sisters, Thamar Morris, Palmdale, Calif., Helen Wilson. Delia, Cynthia Switch, Hamlin, Donnis Keo, Topeka, and Donna Wahquahboshkuk, Mayetta. Burial will be Thursday afternoon in Oliver Cemetery near Mayetta. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements. Pilcher Indian Tribal drum services were Wednesday evening on the New Dance Ground west of Mayetta for Mrs. Sharon Rose Pilcher, 59, Mayetta. She died Sunday, Sept. 24, 1989, at a Topeka hospital. She had been ill. Mrs. Pilcher had operated a dog kennel in Chicago. She was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Mayetta, the daughter of George L. and Helen Claybear Williams. He was born Sept. 20, 1912, in North Dakota, the son of C.W. and Alice Barkes Ping, and lived in Topeka for 27 years. Mr. Ping was retired from Moorman Buick in Topeka. He was married to Bernice Uhl in Sept. 1952 in Topeka. She survives. | 8994 |  | Obituary- Pinkston, Hartford 1 REV. H. PINKSTON Rev. H. Pinkston, father of Mrs. Gordon S. Pritchett, of this city, and one of the pioneer residents of Vernona [sic Verona], Mo., died at his home last Friday evening, April 12, after a lingering illness of seven months duration. Rev. Pinkston was born in Washington county, Kentucky, April 12, 1856. He had been a resident of Verona, for thirty-nine years, and an active minister in the Presbyterian church for a period of forty years. He was widely and favorably known, both in religious and civic affairs, as a man of clear thought and vision. His life was one of rectitude and piety and had a wonderful effect for good upon all who knew him, and the entire community together with a wide circle of friends and admirers mourn his passing and revere his memory. Funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian church, Verona, April 15th, in which service nine of his brother ministers from the Carthage Prebytery participated: Dr. Cady, Neosho, Mo., presided; Dr. Geo. Harbour, Carthage, Mo., led the prayer; Rev. A. K. Gurley, Hoberg, Mo., read the scriptures; Dr. Love, Joplin, Mo., preached the sermon; Dr. Me Caughtery, Aurora, Mo., offered prayer after the sermon; Dr. John Stapleton spoke as a personal friend of Rev. Pinkston; Dr. Stapleton was with Rev. Pinkston Friday afternoon before his death that night. Dr. Cady performed the last services at the cemetery. At the request of the immediate family, Rev. Pritchett sang “Face to Face” in the service at the church. Many beautiful floral offerings were sent. | |

| 8996 |  | Obituary- Pipkin, Billy Billy Lee Pipkin WICHITA - Billy Lee Pipkin, 66, Wichita, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1993, at his home. Mr. Pipkin was an engineer for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., before he retired. He served in the Navy from 1945 to 1946 during World War II and from 1950 to 1951 during the Korean War. He was born July 13, 1927, in Pittsburg, the son of Perry Lee and Ova Leemaster Pipkin. Mr. Pipkin was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Wichita, Lions Club and Telephone Pioneers of America. He was married to Kathleen Seavey July 11, 1958, in Wichita. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Rhea Rakestraw, Wichita, and Kathy Nadeau, Delia; a son, Mark Pipkin, Leander, Texas; and five grandchildren. | 8997 |  | Obituary- Pitts, Beulah 1 LAMP EXPLOSION CAUSES DEATH OF WILLARD GIRL One of the most tragic deaths it has been our experience to note in these columns was that of Dolly Pitts, 14-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pitts, of the Willard neighborhood, which occurred about 8 o’clock Sunday evening. The accident in which Dolly was fatally burned occurred in the forenoon of that day when a gasoline lamp exploded at the Pitts home southeast of Willard. When the girl picked up the lamp near a stove her mother saw a flame coming from the lamp and shouted at her daughter, but before she could put it down, the lamp exploded with a terrific report. The child ran blindly out of the room screaming. Her mother and twin brother Staley threw her down on the floor and smothered the flames with a rug, but not before the child was frightfully burned. Mrs. Pitt was also severely burned and her face scorched while trying to extinguish the flames. She was also treated at the hospital. The girl was given emergency treatment by Dr. C. S. Smith of Rossville and then was taken to Christ hospital. The explosion badly damaged the house. Three doors were blown off their hinges, the walls of the house were sprung and practically every window pane was blown out. Besides her parents, Dolly is survived by two brothers, Ralph and Staley, and a sister, Isabelle, all of the home address. The funeral service was held in the Shellabarger chapel, in Topeka, Wednesday afternoon and the body interred in Memorial cemetery. Rossville high school was dismissed and the majority of the students attended the service. The little girl had long been a favorite with Rossville and Willard people and her tragic death caused grief and sadness among her schoolmates. She was a freshman in Rossville high school. | |
| 8998 |  | Obituary- Pitts, Beulah 2 SCHOOL NEWS – By Earl Wilt Reporter The funeral of Dolly Anne Pitts was held in Shellabarger’s chapel in Topeka at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon. The burial was in Memorial Park cemetery in Topeka. Rev. Payden of Willard gave the short message of condolence. Eight high school girls sang “No Night There,” and “Saved by Grace.” They were Ina Compton, Mary McAdams, Thelma Lambert, Lucille Griswold, Edna May Hartzell, Edna Dean, Williamette Navarre and Thelma Cless. The pallbearers were Ralph Pitts, Clyde Rogers, Marvin Billings, Streight Lauck, Frank Stone Jr., and Ernest Sage. Dolly was the twin sister of Staley Pitts. They were fourteen years old October 20, 1928. Dolly was a Freshman in high school. Although she had been in high school only a short time everyone knew and liked her. Her attractive disposition drew friends to her as she was always jolly and very good natured. She had made a very fine record in her class work. (Dolly) Pitts, little Willard girl, who died from burns received in a gasoline lamp explosion November 19. The claim reached the company offices at 10 o’clock November 24, and at 10:10 the same date the claim was paid in full. The “Spot Cash” known as the “do it now” company, is officered by men well known in the county and includes several Rossville and Willard stockholders. C. A.
