| 10101 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Ann Mrs. Earl Strimple Killed in auto crash Mrs. Ann Davis Strimple of Wichita was killed April 21 in a two-car crash about seven miles west of Greensburg, Kansas, on U.S. 54. She was born July 22, 1908, in Nara Visa, N.M., and the family came to Kansas in 1919. She attended grade school in Rozelle, Kan., and was graduated from high school at Liberal, Kan., in 1926. She was graduated from Fort Hays State Teachers College with AB and BS degrees in 1931. On Sept. 4, 1931, she married Earl E. Strimple. They lived in Topeka until they moved to Wichita in 1939. She was a member of the First Methodist Church at Wichita, Woman’s Society of Christian Service, Commission on Christian Social Concern, Fidelis Sunday School Class, American Association for the United Nations, Wichita Community Committee for Social Action, Central Committee of the International Relations Institute, St. Francis Boys Home, 20th Century Club, Book Explorers Club and Pi Kappa Delta. Survivors include her widower; two daughters, Mrs. Robert F. James, Syracuse, Kan., and Mrs. Gerald Thomas, Eugene, Ore.; her mother, Mrs. Maude Davis, Garfield; one sister, Mrs. Harry Tomlinson, Garfield; three brothers, Albert, Topeka, Victor, Scott City, and Herbert, Tulsa, Okla.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 25, in the First Methodist Church in Wichita. Graveside services were in Garfield, Kansas. A memorial has been established with the First Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Wichita. | |
| 10102 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Anna 1 Anna L. Strimple ROSSVILLE — Anna L. Strimple, 94, Rossville, died Friday, Oct. 20, 1995, at a Rossville nursing home. She was born May 24, 1901, in rural Rossville, the daughter of Frank and Mary Dolezilek. She was a lifelong Rossville resident. Mrs. Strimple was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church, the Friendship Circle Club and the auxiliary to Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion. She married Clyde Strimple. He died in 1961. A daughter, Viola McClain, also preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Orville Strimple, Rossville; a sister, Lydia Strimple, Rossville; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Strimple will lie in state after 5 p.m. Sunday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys, where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. The casket will remain closed. Memorial contributions may be made to Rossville United Methodist Church or to the auxiliary of Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville and sent in care of the funeral home. | |
| 10103 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Arthur Obituary Arthur Elliott Strimple was born near Batavia, Clermont Co., Ohio, April 12th, 1831. When he was about 5 or 6 years old his parents moved to Indiana where they lived for 7 years. They then moved on further west to Lawrence Co., Ill., going on to Crawford Co. Ill., the next year where he made his home until coming to Kansas. In August of the year 1852 one of his brothers took very sick and asked him to pray for him before he died. But as he had never prayed for himself he could not pray for his brother. But this brother's death and burial had such an effect on him he was led to repentance. He joined the M.E. church the same month, but was not converted until the following September at a prayer meeting held at his father's home. His was a wonderful conversion as a light shown around him. Others saw this light which resulted in the conversion of six others the same night. He was appointed class leader in less than a year after uniting with the church and led two classes for several years. He was class leader in different places at least forty years of his life. He was given an Exhorters license during the winter of 1864 and for several years made a trip around the circuit of eleven preaching points once every quarter. He also served in the capacity of steward many years of his life. He enlisted in the 5th Illinois Cav. in Sept. 1861, and was mustered in Company F. in October. He served his country three years and one month and was honorably discharged October 14th, 1864, from the Invalid Corps at St. Louis, Mo. His campaign was spent in Arkansas, Missouri and Mississippi. He was at Vicksburg during all the siege. On February 12th, 1867, he was married to Mellissa Groves Hicks, of Hardinsville, Crawford Co., Illinois. To this union ten children were born, eight sons and two daughters, all of whom with the mother are living: Nelson, Edmund, Augustus Strimple, of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Charles of Seattle, Wash., Arthur, of Walla Walla, Wash., Paul, of Millersburg, Ind., Bert of Altoona, Kans., and Roy, of Moran, Kans., and Mrs. Clarance Smith and Mrs. C.H. Saunders, of Eurkea, Kansas. In the fall of 1870 he came with his family to Kansas, locating at Rossville, Shawnee Co., where they lived for eleven years moving from there to Pottawatomie Co., living there two years. In October 1883, he moved to Greenwood county locating on a farm near Carroll where he and his family lived until March 1902 when they moved to Eureka where he since resided. The above sketch was dictated by him April 23, 1915, and taken down by his daughter. During the past eight or nine weeks Mr. Strimple was confined to his home and most of the time to his bed. He was an intense sufferer a portion of the time, but on Friday evening, June 25, seemingly without any pain, he passed peacefully away. He had reached the age of 84 years, 2 months and 13 days. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, June 27 at 4 o'clock at the M.E. church conducted by his pastor who was assisted by Rev. C.R. Rice. | 10104 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Clara CLARA A. STRIMPLE Clara A. Strimple, 90, died Tuesday night at a Topeka nursing home. She was born in June, 1867, in Dubuque, Iowa, and came to Kansas 78 years ago. Mrs. Strimple had lived in the Rossville community for 45 years. She was a member of the Silver Lake Rebecca Lodge. Survivors include three sons, Clyde and Guy Strimple of Rossville, and Orville E. Strimple of Topeka; five daughters, Mrs. Eva DeGraff and Mrs. Frances Stockton, both of Topeka; Mrs. Georgana Wares, Woodward, Okla.; Mrs. Clara DeGraff, Albany, Ore., and Mrs. Jessie Burton, Princeton. Minn.; 24 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p. m. today in the Rossville Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. | |
| 10105 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Earl Earl E. Strimple Earl E. Strimple, 88, Wichita, formerly of Topeka, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1992, at a Wichita hospital. Mr. Strimple worked 43 years for General American Life Insurance Co. and was general manager of the company when he retired. He was born July 21, 1904, at Portland, Ore., the son of Eugene and Mable VanVIeck Strimple. He was graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1928 from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. He lived and worked in the Topeka area until 1939. Mr. Strimple was a member of First United Methodist Church and Bestor Brown Lodge No. 433, AF&AM, both in Wichita. He was married to Tillie Kopf on June 5, 1965, in Wichita. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Wanda J. James, Hoisington, and Phyllis A. Larson, Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Wichita. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Television Ministry, 330 N. Broadway, Wichita, 67202. | 10106 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Eugene EUGENE STRIMPLE Eugene Strimple, 79, 535 West 3rd street, Junction City, Kansas, died Saturday, March 24. He was born at Rossville, Kansas, April 8, 1876, and lived near here most of his adult life. His father was a pioneer Methodist preacher and one of the founders of the Rossville Methodist church. He was married to Mabel VanVleck on April 29, 1903. His widow survives and also three children, Evelyn Strimple of Junction City, Earl Strimple of Wichita, and Joe Strimple of Galveston, Texas. He also leaves a brother, Frank Strimple of Rossville, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Rossville Methodist church Tuesday, March 27, at 2 p. m., Johnson Funeral Home of Junction City, Kansas, in charge. The Rev. Don Jones conducted the services. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery. | |
| 10107 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Evelyn EVELYN E. STRIMPLE Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel in Junction City for Evelyn E. Strimple, 69, Junction City, who died Tuesday, January 9, 1979, at a Wichita hospital. She was born April 3, 1909, in Rossville. She was employed in civil service at Fort Riley from 1929 to 1959 before serving as a court reporter for the Eighth Judicial District in Junction City, from 1961 to 1975. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Knife and Fork Club, Geary County Mental Health Association, a charter member of the Geary County historical Society, and a patron of the Little Theater, all at Junction City. She also was a member of the National Association for Retired Federal Employees and the Kansas City Mercedes-Benz Club. Survivors include two brothers, Joe Strimple, Galveston, Tex., and Earl Strimple, Wichita. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Junction City and sent in care of the funeral home. | |
| 10108 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Everett Everett H. Strimple Everett Strimple, 76, a native of Rossville son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Strimple, and a 2nd cousin of F.E. Strimple of Rossville, passed away Friday morning, March 23, at his home in Omaha, Neb. Mr. Strimple married Golda Stitt of Willard in 1905. For the past 36 years they had made their home in Omaha where he was in the Union Pacific headquarters. He retired from active service four years ago. He had been in poor health the past year. Beside his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Martha Miller, Omaha; Mrs. Dorothy Hangren, Chicago; Mrs. Beulah Root, Bellvue, Neb. a son Austin, of Chicago. There are also seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers are William in California and Cecil Strimple. | |
| 10109 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Francis F.E. Strimple Francis Elliot Strimple was born in Lawrenceville, Illinois, December 20, 1864, and passed away October 28, 1957, at the age of 92 years 10 months and 8 days. He was the son of Paul and Louisa Strimple and as a child came to Kansas with his family in a covered wagon in 1870 and located on a farm five miles west of Rossville in Shawnee County. In 1880 the Strimple family moved [to] a farm near Neale, Kansas, in Greenwood County where he met Clara Strausbaugh and on May 6, 1886, they were married. To this union, nine children were born, all in Greenwood County, except the daughter Georgana who was born in Durango, Colorado. They were there four years from 1890 to 1894. Frank then brought his family back to Greenwood County and resided there until 1908. In 1908 the family then moved to Wilson, Kansas in Ellsworth County for four years. In 1912 the family with two married daughters moved back to Rossville where his home remained until his death. Mr. Strimple taught school for over 50 years in Greenwood, Ellsworth, Jackson, and Shawnee counties. He was united with the Methodist Church here in Rossville in 1933. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for over 50 years and belonged to the Silver Lake chapter since 1914. He was the last surviving member of his family since his brother Eugene passed away a year ago last spring. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Strimple, to whom he had been married 71 years; three sons, Clyde and Guy of Rossville; and Orville E. Strimple, Topeka; five daughters, Mrs. Eva DeGraff and Mrs. Frances Stockton, both of Topeka; Mrs. Georgana Wares, Woodward, Okla.; Mrs. Clara DeGraff, Albany, Oregon; and Mrs. Jessie Burton, Princeton, Minn.; 24 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren. She was 73 years old and was a former resident of Willard. | 10111 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Henry Henry P. Strimple, a pioneer resident of this city, died at his home on Perry street, Tuesday evening after an illness of several months duration. He had been a great sufferer from dyspeptic trouble which finally culminated into an abscess of the stomach, causing death. Mr. Strimple was 57 years old and had resided in this city for thirty-five years. His first wife and a grown daughter, Daisy, died with small pox during the epidemic here two years ago. About a year ago he married the widow Martin, who with five children four boys and one girl, remain to mourn his death. Mr. Strimple was a good man and a faithful and consistent Christian. For more than 22 years he held the position of janitor of the city schools. Out of respect the schools were dismissed yesterday in order that the children could attend the funeral. Funeral services were held Thursday at 10 o'clock a.m. in the M.E. Church of which he was a member. Rev. J.F. Dennis, the pastor, conducted the services, after which the body was buried in the city cemetery. | |

"Jackie" Strimple ROSSVILLE - Jacqueline J. “Jackie" Strimple, 71, Rossville, died Sunday, Jan. 11,2004, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born Oct. 7, 1932, in Rossville, the daughter of Henry and Vivian Divine Lloyd. She had lived in the Rossville community all her life. She attended Rossville schools. She was a homemaker, and a member of Rossville United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Auxiliary of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville. She married Orville Strimple on June 10, 1950, at Rossville. He survives, of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Jan Dannefer and Gay Nadeau, both of Rossville; a brother, Jim Turner, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant grandson, on May 8, 1975; and by another grandson, Jordan David Nadeau, on March 1, 2001. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Strimple will lie in state from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in St. Marys, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Auxiliary to Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion or to the Rossville Community Swimming Pool Fund and sent in care of the funeral home. | |

Lydia was born in Rossville, KS on Dec. 25, 1905, the daughter of Frank and Marie Dolezilek. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Strimple, and a son, Francis. | 10118 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Mabel Services were held Tuesday from the Rossville First United Methodist Church for Mrs. Mabel Strimple, 89, Junction City, former resident of the Rossville community. Mrs. Strimple died Saturday in a Junction City hospital, where she had been admitted three days previously. She had been ill two months. Mrs. Strimple was born Jan. 24, 1881, at Gardner, Ill., and had lived in Rossville and Lawrence before moving to Junction City in 1952. She was married to Eugene Strimple on Apr. 29, 1903, at Seattle, Washington. Mr. Strimple preceded her in death on Mar. 24, 1956. Survivors include a daughter: Evelyn Strimple, Junction City; two sons: Earl E. Strimple, Wichita; Joseph E. Strimple, Galveston, Tex.; a sister: Mrs. William Lambert, Silver Lake; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Burial was made in the Rossville Cemetery. | |
| 10119 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Martha 3 Died- At her home in Rossville, June 4, 1902, just three days after the death of her daughter, Daisy, Mrs. Martha Jane Strimple, age 54 yrs., 3 months, 24 days. Martha Jane Baird was born in Lawrence Co., Ill., Feb. 10, 1848, married to H.P. Strimple Dec. 17, 1868, and moved to Rossville in the fall of 1870. She was the mother of eleven children, six of whom preceded her to that heavenly rest. Her husband, five children and one brother remain to mourn her loss. Mrs. Strimple was one of eight who formed the charter class of the M.E. church in Rossville in 1871. Her last words were "I want rest," in a few moments she passed quietly away to home home not made with hands. Interrment took place at the City cemetery June 5. Memorial services were held in the M.E. Church, Sunday July 6, by Rev. A.D. Rice. A great concourse of relatives and friends were present. Rev. Rice preached an able sermon and told the way in which those left could follow and finally unite with mother and sister, never to part again. | |

Strimple have been called to the mysterious beyond. Daisy, the daughter, died Sunday evening and was buried the following day, and her mother, Martha, passed away Wednesday evening and was laid to rest by the side of the daughter in the Rossville cemetery yesterday morning. Owning to the contagious nature of the disease no funeral services were held and a strict quarantine is maintained over the premises. Daisy was about twenty years of age and was born and grew to womanhood in this city. She was a devoted christian and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. Martha Strimple was fifty-two years of age, the mother of ten children, five of whom are dead. Those living are Everett, William, James, Cecil and Mrs. Lida Saville of Belvue. Mr. Strimple had long been a member of the M.E. Church at this place and led a consistent christian life. The family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in this their great bereavement. | |

She is survived by husband Clyde Strimple, their daughters Marcilyn (Bill) Rust, Jerri (Steve) Sitek, Cassie (Gary) Sturgeon, six grandchildren, Shannon and Bethany Rust, Andrea and Brian Sitek and Vincent and Caitlin Sturgeon. Also surviving are sisters -in-law, Donna Sutherland and Leanna Carter, nephew Mark Sutherland, nieces Diana Owens and Joyce Basinger. Maxine and Clyde were married November 25,1950. After graduation from Rossville High School, Maxine worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company until moving to Waterville, KS in 1952. She also lived in Anthony, KS and Kansas City, KS. Maxine worked for the Kansas City, KS Public Schools as a cafeteria manager for 20 years retiring in 1992. She served as treasurer of Job's daughters Bethel #2 for many years. She loved to travel in the travel trailer traveling in Canada and all the states except Hawaii. She was a member of Trinity Community United Methodist Church and was a member of Martha's Circle. She was sponsor of the Methodist Youth group while living in Waterville. Maxine taught church school when she was a member of Quail Methodist Church. He was born July 14, 1928 at Rossville, the son of Clyde and Anna L Dolezilek Strimple. Mr. Strimple was employed by the State of Kansas at the Topeka State Hospital in the maintenance department as a painter for 35 years. He was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church and Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion both in Rossville. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline J. "Jackie" Lloyd on June 10,1950 at Rossville. She preceded him in death on January 11,2004. He was also preceded in death by an infant grandson on May 8, 1975, by a grandson Jordan David Nadeau on March 1, 2001 and by a sister Viola McClain. Survivors include two daughters, Jan (Daryl) Dannefer and Gay (David) Nadeau, all of Rossville; four grandchildren, Amanda Khemraj, Eric Dannefer, Dylan Nadeau and Anna Nadeau; two great granddaughters. Orville Strimple Dies of Heart Attack on Topeka Street Services were held Friday for Orville E, Strimple, 59, of Topeka, who was dead on arrival at a Topeka hospital Tuesday after suffering a heart attack at a drug store in downtown Topeka. He was born Jan. 12, 1906 at Neal in Greenwood County and spent his early life in Rossville. He was graduated from Washburn University in 1934. He taught at East Indianola trade School from 1935 until 1952 except during World War II when he served in the U. S. Army. He was on the engineering staff at WIBE-TVfrom 1951 to 1959 and since had been an account salesman for WIBW-TV. He was a member of Seaman Congregational Church, Professional Advertising Club and the Kaw Valley Radio Club. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Strimple, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Sheldon Brown, San Antonio, Tex., Mrs. Myron Williams, Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Joseph Thornwall, Lanham, Md.; four sisters, Mrs. George DeGraff, and Mrs. Frances Minnie Stockton, Topeka, and Mrs. Buell Burton, Bolivar, Mo., and Mrs. Leo DeGraff, Dallas, Ore.; and eight grandchildren. | 10126 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Paul 1 Rev. Paul Strimple Dead After an illness of several weeks duration Rev. Paul Strimple died Saturday afternoon. The immediate cause of his death was pneumonia although he was subject to bronchitis and was troubled some by his heart. Rev. Strimple was a man about 84 years of age. He was one of the earliest settlers of this vicinity having come here in May of 1870. The greater part of his life had been spent in the ministry of the Methodist church of which he represented the old order of ministers. He had the honor of preaching the first protestant sermon in St. Marys and preached the second Methodist sermon in Rossville. He retained through life the friendship of a multitude of friends made through his long years of work for the advancement of his church. Of late years Rev. Strimple has made his home with his son John and daughter Eve in Greenwood county. He was the father of a family of 12 children, of whom 7 boys and 2 girls are living to mourn his loss. Those of the children who live in this vicinity are: F.E., Gene, Bartha, Jesse and a grandson, Roscoe. The remains were taken to Neal, Greenwood county, Kansas, for burial Monday. | 10127 |  | Obituary- Strimple, Paul 2 Paul Strimple was born near Batavia, Clermont county, Ohio, March 11, 1829. When about 7 years of age he was taken to Indiana, and when 13 to Crawford county Ill., where he grew to manhood. In 1852 he was married to Eliza McCartney, who died in 1854. to them 2 children were born. Oct 29, 1861, he was married to Louisa J. Bush in Lawrenceville, Illinois. to this union were born 10 children, 8 boys and 2 girls. 8 of these children are still living, 2 have died in infancy. Mr. Strimple moved to Shawnee county, Kansas, in 1870, where he lived till 1882, when he moved to Greenwood county. In 1860 at Wesley chapel in Lawrence county, he was license to preach in the Methodist church. He preached for about 10 years in Crawford, Lawrence and Clark counties in Illinois, for about 12 years in Shawnee county, Kansas and for as long as his health would permit after coming to Greenwood county. He was taken sick May 21, while visiting his children and other relatives in Rossville in Shawnee county, after much pain and suffering, passed away June 14, 1913, aged 84 years. During his sickness he gave clear testimony of his assurance of a home in heaven. Among his last words were: "Tell the folks that it is all right, I am ready and willing to go and be with God." "Servant of God , well done! Thy glorious warfare's past. The battle's fought, the race is won, And thou art crowned at last." And so it was in the community of Rossville last Sunday, January 2nd, when word was passed around that Mrs. "Doc" Stroup was dead. It was generally known that Mrs. Stroup was very ill - but it was understood that she was improving and would get well. But during one of those stormy spells she took a severe cold which gave her a back-set from which she never recovered. Mrs. Stroup, nee Edith Baker, was well known in and about Rossville, because most of her short life of a little more than twenty-three years had been lived here. She was born at St. Marys, April 17, 1886. At the age of eleven she united with the Methodist Church and seven years later while she was at Miami, Indian Territory, she became a member of the Christian Church and continued to be a member of that Church until her death. He passed away in the state hospital in Topeka, where he was taken Feb. 2, for treatment. H had been in failing health for some time and had lost the sight in both eyes, resulting from a tumor on the brain. Otis was born Jan. 27, 1908, Rossville and passed away at the age of 32 years and 14 days. He was the younger son of the late Mr. and Mrs. S.H. "Doc" Stroup. He passed way at his home in Rossville, December 24, 1934, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 20 days. Mr. Stroup came to Tecumseh, Kansas, with his parents in 1864. As a young man he came to Rossville and most of his lifetime has been spent here. He was united in marriage to Edith May Baker, September 20, 1905. Two sons were born to this union, both of whom survive him. They are Nathan of Topeka, and Otis of Rossville. Mrs. Stroup preceded him in death, passing away about 25 years ago. One grandson, Otis Scott Stroup, also survives him. Mr. Stroup was a member of the local Christian church for many years. In recent years he has been regular and dependable at his job of carrying the mail between the post office and the depot. Funeral services were held at the Christian church here, this (Thursday) afternoon, in change of Rev. Wright Horton. Pallbearers were Messrs. A. B. Jamieson, Albert Reser, Charles Parr Norman White, Harry Gutshall, and U. G. Stewart. Music was furnished by Mrs. A. B. Jamieson and Mrs. Albert Reser, accompanied by Miss Edith Higginbotham. He had cancer. He was born Jan. 27, 1934, in Rossville, the son of John E. and Lottie Besta Stum, and spent his early life in the Rossville, Wamego and Delia communities. He moved to St. Paul, Minn., about 20 years ago. He was a fishing guide and owned and operated the launch at Headquarters near Brainerd. He was married to Barbara Ogrosky May 4, 1985, in Aitkin County, Minn. They owned and operated the Green Lantern club near Brainerd since 1988. She survives. | 10145 |  | Obituary- Stum, Duane 2 Duane C. Stum Duane Charles Stum, 62, Nokay Lake Area, Brainerd, MN., died Tuesday, June 4, 1996, at his home. He was born January 27,1934, in Rossville to John E. and Lottie Besta Stum. John E. Stum died in 1972. Duane lived his early life in Kansas and moved to St. Paul in the 1970s. He was a fishing guide and owned and operated the launch at Headquarters for 13 years. He married Barbara Ogrosky May 4, 1985, in Aitkin County, MN. She survives. They purchased the Green Lantern in 1988, which they were operating. He was a member of Garrison Commercial Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Diane Myer, Topeka, and Brenda Peterson, Henderson, MN.; a son, Dennis Dachenhausen, Topeka; a stepson, Edward Minke, St. Paul, MN; his mother, Lottie Stum, Rossville; two sisters, Sara Horak, Delia, and Agnes Cox, Cabool, Mo.; and a brother, Wilbur Stum, Rossville. Visitation for family and friends was from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN. His memorial service was at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The body was cremated. | 10148 |  | Obituary- Stum, Lottie 1 Lottie T. Stum ROSSVILLE - Lottie T. Stum, 94, Rossville, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Rossville Valley Manor, in Rossville. She was born Aug. 7, 1910, at Delia, the daughter of Albin and Teresa Balusek Besta. She grew up in the Delia community and lived in the Delia and Rossville communities all her life. She farmed with her husband, John, until he retired. Later, she worked at Seymour Foods in Topeka until she retired. She then became an active quilter with the Delia Presbyterian Church ladies. She was a member of Rossville Christian Church, Moravian Lodge No. 128, and was a charter member of the U S. Bank MESA Club, all at Rossville. She married John Stum on April 11, 1928, at Alma. He preceded her in death in August 1972. Also preceding her was a son, Duane Stum, in June 1996. Surviving are two daughters, Sara Horak, Delia, and Agnes Cox, Maple Hill; a son, Wilbur Stum Sr., Rossville; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two step great-great-grandsons. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery, Rossville. | 10150 |  | Obituary- Stum, Samuel Sam Stum Dead. At his home in this city, after an illness of but one week, Sam Stum died of pneumonia Monday March 11. He was born in Perry County, Pa., May 20th 1853 and came the Kansas in 1877. Was married to Mrs. A.B. Oldham, whom with three children and a number of relatives survive him. Had lived in Rossville a great many years and was a highly respected citizen. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Wednesday at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Albbs, and the remains laid at rest in Rossville cemetery. Pall bearers were W.H. Bixby, Jao. Stovall, Frank Beal, John Quirk, Ed Stovall and Chas. Brown.
