The funeral of Mrs. J.D. Ross who died at her home, 1521 Van Buren street, Topeka, last Saturday was held Monday at 2 p.m. from the house. Mrs. Ross had been in critical condition for several months and was under the constant care of a nurse. Relatives in this vicinity who survive her are a daughter, Mrs. F.P. McCollough and a son, J.P. Ross. |

PERRY — Ira W. Ross, 81, Perry, died Tuesday, May 25,1999, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Ross was a truck driver for the Johnnie Ross Trucking Co. He had hauled livestock and grain for area farmers for many years before his brother, who owned tire company, died in 1978. He later was a truck driver for the Jefferson County Road Department from 1979 until lie retired in 1985. He served in tire Army during World War II.
He was born Oct. 31, 1917, in Rossville, the son of Oscar V. and Maude R. Killinger Ross. He had lived in Perry since 1946, and fie attended Oskaloosa schools.
Mr. Ross was an avid walker and he picked up aluminum cans as he walked.
He married Lola M. Hiebsch on Aug. 18, 1941, at Oskaloosa. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Judy Sanford, Lawrence; a son, Tom Ross, Perry; three sisters, Pauline Horr, Holton, Irene Schultz, Leavenworth, and Virginia Reiling, Oskaloosa; a brother, Roy Ross, independence, Mo.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Perry. Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Inner at home.

Richard L. Ross, 73, Topeka, died Saturday, December 7, 1991, at the Colmery-O’Neil Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born October 4, 1918, in Chicago, Ill. to Charles L. and Gertrude Wuster Ross. He moved to Topeka in 1980.
Mr. Ross first attended First Church of Christ Scientist, Topeka. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1939 to 1956, seeing duty in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer.
Among his survivors is a daughter, Mrs. Nancy (Ross) C. Bowder, Salina, formerly of Delia.
Military graveside services, with full military honors are at 2 p.m. Tuesday (this afternoon) at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Verschelden Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard L. Ross
Military graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Leavenworth National Cemetery for Richard L. Ross, 73, Topeka, who died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1991, at a Topeka hospital.
He served in the Navy from 1939 until 1956 when he retired at the rank of chief petty officer. He served in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was born Oct. 4, 1918, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Charles L. and Gertrude Wuster Ross. He attended Des Moines, Iowa, schools and Wheaton, Ill., high school. He lived in Topeka since 1980.
Mr. Ross was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Topeka.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy C. Bowden, Salina; two sisters, Charlotte Goff, Northglenn, Colo., and Lois Walker, Amityville, N.Y.; a brother, Robert W. Walker, La Costa, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley A. Ross, 61, Topeka, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 1994, at a Topeka hospital.
Mrs. Ross was the point-of-sale coordinator for Fleming Foods 30 years before she retired earlier this year.
She was born Dec. 28, 1932, in Delia, the daughter of Henry M. and Mabel L. Banta Dibbern.
MRS. Ross was a member of Wagoneer's Camping Club.
She was married to Merle E. Ross Feb. 9, 1952, in Topeka. He survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Nancy Juedes, Boulder, Colo., Carol Barnes, Topeka, and Cindy Burnette, Aurora, Colo.; three sisters, Louise Brandenburg, Topeka, Avis Bratton, Collinsville, Okla., and Geneva Whitfield, Mishawaka, Ind.; a brother, Floyd Dibbern, Topeka; her parents, Henry and Mabel Dibbern, Topeka; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Ross will lie in state from 8 a.m. today to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Newcomer-Diffenderfer Funeral Home, where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. AUBURN — William D. “Bill” Ross, 71, Auburn, died Monday, Dec. 18,2000, at home.
Mr. Ross farmed in the Dover and Auburn area, and was a self-employed drywall finisher and contractor before he retired. He also raised and was a breeder of homing pigeons and rabbits. He served six years in the Marine Corps.
He was born Sept. 16,1929, in Topeka, the son of William Clair and Agnes Gertrude Kidman Ross. He moved with his family to Santa Barbara, Calif., when he was 6 years old, and he graduated from high school in California. He moved back to the Dover and Auburn area in 1949.
Mr. Ross was an avid raccoon and coyote hunter. He was a member of the Mo-Kan Combine Pigeon Racing Group, the Topeka Racing Pigeon Club and the American Rabbit Breeders Association.
He married Grace Margaret Henderson on March 11,1950, in Topeka. She survives.
Other survives include four sons, Greg Ross and Clay Ross, both of Topeka, Doug Ross, Harveyville, and John Ross, Rossville; four daughters, Shelly Ross, Silver Lake, Kelly Ross and Bobbi Wendt, both of Topeka, and Billi Jones, Auburn; and 10 grandchildren.
Mr. Ross was preceded in death by a grand-child, Azure Fisher, in 1981.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Auburn Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery west of Auburn. Mr. Ross will lie in state from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Carey Funeral Home in Burlingame, where visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Lung Association, sent in care of the funeral home.

HOLTON — Frank Louis Rosser, 80, Holton, died Friday, Oct. 26, at a Topeka hospital. He had a heart ailment.
Mr. Rosser taught in Oklahoma and Kansas schools for 45 years, including schools at Glendale for 11 years and Delia for 23 years. He was superintendent at Jackson Heights Elementary School for six years before he retired in 1972. For the past 10 years he was associated with Bill Lewis Realtors at Topeka.
He was born Dec. 20, 1903, in a log cabin on Indian territory near Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the son of William Albert and Minnie Ann Latta Rosser. He was graduated with a teaching degree from Northeastern State College, Tahlequah, and later with a master’s degree from Emporia State Teachers College.
Mr. Rosser was a member of Holton Presbyterian Church, the Holton Chapter No. 79 of Royal Arch masons at Holton, Delia Lodge No. 419, AF&AM, at Delia, Washington Commandry No. 2 of Knights Templar, Atchison, and Holton Lions Club. He also was active in Kansas Retired Teachers Association where he held a state office in community service and had been active in 4-H work.
He was married to Minnie Berkley May 18, 1935, at Manhattan. She survives.

James Clarence Rosser Sr., 49, died Tuesday, April 17, 1984, in a Fresno hospital.
Rosser had worked as a feed mill worker.
The Oklahoma native moved to Dinuba in 1954.
He married Shirley Pressgrove on Oct. 4, 1957, in Kansas. Mr. Rosser was formerly of Delia and Topeka.
Rosser served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James and Timothy Rosser, both of Dinuba; four daughters, Roxann Bolding and Rhonda, Robin and Kimberley Rosser, all of Dinuba; his mother, Flora Rosser of Dinuba; his mother, Flora Rosser of Dinuba; two brothers, Lee Rosser of Huntsville, Ark., and Bobby Rosser of Dinuba; four sisters, Rosetta Lasswell and Geraldine Peiona, both of Dinuba, Thelma Hanna of Garden Grove and Darlene Jones of Auburn; and four grandchildren.
Services were at 10:30 Friday in Dopkins Chapel in Dinuba with the Rev. Ron Wadsworth officiating. Burial was in Smith Mountain Cemetery.

Dies at Age 88
Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Ann Rosser, 88, were held last Wednesday at Tahlequah, Okla. She died February 21 at a Tahlequah hospital after a long illness. Burial was in Tahlequah City Cemetery.
A Tahlequah resident for 65 years, Mrs. Rosser was born September 1, 1877, in Evansville, Arkansas, and moved there in 1900.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church at Tahlequah, Dahilia Flower Club and Women’s Christian Society of First Methodist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Frank of Delia, Carl of Tulsa, Hubert of Sidney, Iowa, and Lloyd of Midwest City, Okla.; a daughter, Mrs. Joe L. Reed of Knoxville, Tennessee; a sister, Mrs. Donna Harris of Evergreen, Colorado, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Minnie Reva Rosser, 89, Rossville, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Brewster Place retirement center in Topeka.
She was born April 19, 1912, in Lincoln County, Kansas, the daugh¬ter of Robert Harvey and Clara Mae Greenway Berkley.
She grew up in the Glendale- Tescott communities, and was grad¬uated from Glendale High School. She had lived in the Delia, Holton and Rossville communities most of her life. For the past three years, she lived in Topeka. Minnie was a mem¬ber of the Rossville United Meth¬odist Church.
On May 18, 1935, she was married to Frank Louis Rosser in Man¬hattan. He died October 25, 1984. Eight brothers and sisters also pre¬ceded her in death 1205 SW 39th Street in Topeka.
Immediate survivors include two daughters, Karen Heidebrecht, Wichita, and Marilyn Campbell, Rossville; two sisters, Ruth Sulter, Salina, and Helen Webb, Solomon; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her service is at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (today) at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Rossville Cemetery. A family visitation was held at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys Monday evening.
Wednesday, August 1, a memo¬rial service will be held at 1:15 p.m. at Brewster Chapel, Main Building, in Topeka.

Mr. Roth will be remembered as the boy called "Shorty" who made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Kesler last summer and Fall. Mr. Roth was shot accidentally with his own gun while enroute to a large ranch near Hugo to seek employment. The young man's parents live in St. Louis. |

Bernice Mary Roth was born December 9, 1923 to John and Elizabeth Stitz in Baileyville, Kansas. In her early twenties she migrated to California to assist in the Rosie the Riveter war cause. She was acquainted with her husband Mike’s sister who introduced her to him. They married in Baileyville, Kan-sas in 1944. She and Mike started their family in Paxico but later moved to Emmett to the family home of more than 50 years. When her health failed her, she moved to St Marys Manor.
Bernice was known for her cooking. Besides cooking for her family, she could be counted on for meals for unexpected friends, church bazaars and later in life contributed faithfully to the food pantry.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mike and her infant son Gerald. Surviving are daughters. Sister Linda Roth, Kansas City, Patricia (Rick) Jones. Mary Roth, and Judy (Sam) Grant, all of Topeka; sons, Mike (Ann) Roth, Shelburne, Vermont, Joe (Barbara) Roth, Rossville, Gary (Tina) Roth, St. Marys, John (Kim) Roth, Steve Roth all of Emmett and James (Becky) Roth, Paxico; three sisters, her twin, Bernita Mary Campo, Bothell, WA, Alma Mastrogivanni, Eugene, OR, and Marcelle Montgomery, Topeka; 22 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys followed by a lunch. Interment was at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Holy Cross Cemetery, Emmett. A Rosary was recited at 5:00 P.M. Friday, August 25 at Piper Funeral Home where the family received friends from 5:30 until 6:30 and a Prayer Service was at 6:30. CORNING – Mrs. Marie Rottinghaus, 76, Corning, died Thursday, Aug 22, at a Kansas City, Kan., medical center.
She was born April 6, 1909, in Seneca, the daughter of Fred and Mary Elizabeth Rettele Haefele. She lived in Seneca, Kelly and Corning during her life.
Mrs. Rottinghaus was a member of St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly and the Altar Society of the church.
She was married to Frank Rottinghaus on Jan. 8, 1930. He died Dec. 8. 1965.
Survivors include eight daughters, Mrs. Mary Kongs, Topeka, Mrs. Veronica Stallbaumer, Denver, Mrs. Joan Platt, Nashville, Tenn., Mrs. Martha Cowan, Rossville, Mrs. Margaret Rethman, Seneca, Mrs. Lucille Koelzer, Axtell, Mrs. Delores Engel, Lenexa, and Mrs. Rosemary Runnebaum, Kansas City, Kan.; four sons, Francis Rottinghaus, Jim Rottinghaus and Gerald Rottinghaus, all of Topeka, and Robert Rottinghaus, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Florina Gallagher, Paola; two brothers, Cyril Haefele, Vassar, and Vincent Haefele, Paola; 33 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. Burial will be in St. Bede’s Catholic Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. today at the church. | Obituary- Rouse, John JOHN WILLIAM ROUSE
John William Rouse, 74, a resident of 'he Rossville community for about 23 years, died late Friday night at his home after a long illness, resulting from a fractured hip and leg.
He was born in Tipton, Ind., He was a past master of Hesperian Lodge No. Ill, AF and AM. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Emma Rouse, of the home in Rossville.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, from the Rossville Christian church, with the pastor Orel Newbury of Manhattan in charge of the service.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Ruth Hesse and Mrs. Lorene Parr with Miss Thelma Parr accompanying at the piano.
Pall bearers were, Jack Gleason, Dudley Barker, Ed James, Levi Keller, Delbert Olson, and Tom Bush.
Burial was in Rossville City cemetery with the Masons in charge of burial service.

Mrs. L. P. Hartzell has received word of the death of her sister, Mrs. Julia M. Roush of Fresno, Calif.
Mrs. Roush, who was 82 years old, had been in ill health several years. She suffered a stroke on Tuesday, March 13, and passed away on Saturday.
Burial
was Monday at Fresno.
Another sister, Mrs. Gladys Wood of Beatty, Nevada, attended the funeral. Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Hartzell are the only remaining members of their family.
Mrs. Roush leaves one daughter, three granddaughters and one great grandson, all of Fresno.

Mrs. Roush was a member of Central Congregational Church and the Stormont-Vail Auxiliary.
She married Walter E. Roush on January 25, 1926, in Jefferson City, Mo. He died in 1967.
No immediate family members survive.
A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Brewster Place in Topeka. Inurnment at the Rossville Cemetery was private.
Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka, was in charge of arrangements.

LAWRENCE — Carol Ann Reamer Rouviere, 46, Lawrence, died June 18,2003, at her parents’ home.
She was born Dec. 11,1956, in Topeka, the daughter of George and Doris Heideman Reamer. She graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1974.
Mrs. Rouviere had been a legal secretary in Topeka for many years, and after moving to Lawrence she was the business manager for Cypress Systems and Aerospace Systems and Technolo-gies. She had been employed by The University of Kansas as an accountant for the Medicinal Chemistry Department.
She married James Edward Rouviere on Aug. 29,1975, in Topeka. He survives.
Other survivors include her parents, George and Doris Reamer, Silver Lake; and three brothers, Dennis Reamer, Burlingame, Kenneth Reamer, Delia, and Jeffrey Reamer, Silver Lake.
Mrs. Rouviere was cremated. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel, 3821W. 6th, Lawrence. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Reinisch Rose Garden at Gage Park in Topeka or to the Oncology Unit at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, and sent in care of the funeral home.

OSKALOOSA – John Dale Rowe, 80, Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at a Lawrence hospital.
Mr. Rowe was a masonry maintenance worker at Topeka State Hospital before he retired in 1983 after 25 years of service. He served in the Navy from 1939 to 1947, and was a veteran of World War II.
He was born Oct. 20, 1918, in Rossville, the son of Charles Henry and Flossie Keech Rowe. He was a 1936 graduate of St. George High School in St. George. He had lived in Oskaloosa since 1955.
He married Lois Mae Luekenga on June 16, 1943, in Alma. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Timothy J. Rowe, Bonner Springs, and Thomas D. Rowe, Lawrence; two daughters, Mary Ann Jaimez, Topeka and Alberta Marie Bayless, Carbondale; five brothers, Vernon Rowe, St. George, Russell Rowe, Cottonwood Falls, Lawrence Rowe, Phoenix, Kenneth Rowe, Salina, and Ronald Rowe, Strong City, two sisters, Virginia Reed, address unavailable, and DeLores, whose last name and address are unavailable; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

| Obituary- Rudolph, Joe Joe J. Rudolph
Joe J. Rudolph, 92, Silver Lake, died Wednesday, February 24, 1999, at the St. Marys Community Hospital.
Mr. Rudolph worked in the family’s business, Rudolph Power Implement Company. He also farmed and raised registered black Angus cattle and show horses at Fullington Place, one of the earliest homesteads in northern Geary County. He owned and operated Milford Lumber Co. from the 1950s until Milford Dam and expansion at Fort Riley forced him to move in 1964.
He was born June 14,1906, at Gill Township, the son of Joshua Easna and Emma Schweitzer Rudolph. He was graduated from Milford High School in 1931. He had lived in the Silver Lake area since 1964.
Mr. Rudolph was a member of the Christian faith and was instrumental in starting several nondenominational churches.
He was married to Dora Freeman May 15,1940. She died May 25,1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Jo Lawson, in Geary County; a son, Edsel Rudolph, Silver Lake; and three grandchildren.
His service was Saturday afternoon at the Silver Lake United Methodist Church. Burial was in Walnut Hill Cemetery north of Silver Lake. Relatives and friends met Friday evening at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Parker Mortuary in Topeka for Clara Ruff, 86, 1735 N. Polk, Topeka, who died Thursday in a Topeka hospital. Burial was in Rochester Cemetery.
She was born Oct. 26, 1878 in Marion County, Ohio. She moved to Kansas in 1894 and spent several years in the Rossville community. She had lived in Topeka since 1947. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Dale Ruff of Rossville is a nephew. Other nieces and nephews survive.

Dale C. Ruff, 93, Rossville, died Sunday, November 2, 2003, at the Rossville Valley Manor.
He was born April 17, 1910, near Ness City, the son of William Edward and Elizabeth Kitterman Ruff.
He grew up in the Ness City community and had worked on the Goodman Ranch in Ness County for six years. He had lived in the Rossville community since 1934, and was a farmer.
In 1940, he married Marsella Stadler. She died September 27, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Diehl, Palm Desert, CA; a son, Frank Ruff, Davidsonville, MD; two grandsons, Jason Diehl, Hollywood, CA, and Andrew Ruff, Davidsonville, MD.
His service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday (this morning) in the Ness City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, 1602 East Waterman, Wichita 67211-1878.

| Obituary- Ruff, Leo Leo Ruff
Funeral services for Leo Russ, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the funeral home in Manhattan. Burial will be in Sunset cemetery at Manhattan.
Leo was the sixth victim of an auto crash eighteen miles south of Topeka Monday morning and died at Christ's hospital in Topeka at 5:15 o'clock Wednesday morning.
Jack Farley of Arkansas City, the fifth victim of the most tragic auto accident ever recorded in this section died at 5:15 o'clock Tuesday evening. Neither regained consciousness after the terrific crash Monday in which two others met instant death and two more were fatally injured.
Leo Ruff, 23, had been an employee of the state WPA offices since September of last year. He had completed three years work in the engineering department of the Kansas State college at Manhattan, after completing his high school work here with the class of 1930. For the last few weeks he had been concentrating his efforts on water conservation work for WPA.
Farley was president of the Farley Machine Works Co., of Arkansas city.
Others who were killed as a result of the crash were: Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Gormley, Tulsa; Sam Wentworth, Hutchinson; and Paul B. Vautravers, Topeka.
Vautravers and Ruff were riding in a Plymouth going south on High 75 when their car collided with a new Lincoln Zephyr going west whose occupants were the Gormleys, Wentworth and Farley. Vautravers and Mrs. Gormley were instantly killed; Mr. Gormley and Wentworth died in Topeka within three hours after the accident; Farley died Tuesday evening; Ruff died Wednesday.
Both cars were demolished. Farley's dog, a thoroughbred pointer and a constant companion, died shortly after limping from the wreckage.
Coroner O.C. Fritz, of Osage county, said there were no witnesses to the crash and intimated no inquest would be held.
Leo is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Ruff and one sister, Miss Ada Marie Ruff of Chicago.

Marsella A. Ruff, 80, Rossville, died Thursday, September 27, 2001 at a Topeka hospice House.
She was born October 15, 1920 in Topeka, the daughter of Nicholaus and Barbara Walder Stadler.
Mrs. Ruff lived in the Rossville community all her life. She grew up in the Rossville community and had lived on a farm near Rossville since her marriage. She worked in food services at the Topeka V.A. Hospital and the K.N.I. in Topeka. She later was a retail clerk for Woolworths and Arlyns in Topeka. For the past eight years Mrs. Ruff was a greeter at Wal-Mart.
She was married to Dale C. Ruff on February 3, 1940 in Rossville. He survives.
Other survivors include a son, Frank Ruff, Davidsonville, MD; a daughter, Mary Ann Diehl, Leawood; four sisters, Mildred Wallace and Irene Mader, both of Topeka, Ruth Cornelius, Newton, Kathryn Lombardi, Kenvil, NJ; three brothers, George Stadler, Tucson, AZ, Sylvester Stadler, Topeka, Nicholaus Stadler, Wichita; and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Ruff was cremated. Private services will be held later.

ROSSVILLE — Marsella A. Ruff, 80, Rossville, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at a Topeka hospice.
Mrs. Ruff her husband farmed near Rossville for 60 years. She also had worked in food services at the VA Medical Center in Topeka and the Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka. She later was a retail clerk for Woolworths and Arlyns in Topeka, and she was a greeter at Wal-Mart the past eight years.
She was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Topeka, the daughter of Nicholaus and Barbara Walder Stadler. She was a lifelong Rossville resident.
She married Dale C. Ruff on Feb. 3, 1940, in Rossville. He survives.

The Rev. Dr. Ivan E. Rundus, 71, of Sterling, died on Friday, July 31, 1998, at his home after a battle with cancer.
Visitation and viewing will be on Sunday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Tennant Funeral Home and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the First Presbyterian Church. A funeral service will be held Monday, Aug. 3, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Steven Schorr will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Rev. Dr. Rundus was born on April 15, 1927 to B.W. and Delia (Foreman) Rundus in Belleville, Kan. He married Sara Agnes Smith in Alabama on Aug. 10, 1947. The celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last summer in Hawaii with all their children and their families.
He earned a Bachelor of Music Education Certificate from Kansas State College in 1951 and the Advanced Music Education Certificate in 1953. Dr. Rundus earned a Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Theology from Dubuque Theological Seminary and has received Doctor of Divinity degrees from Buena Vista College in Iowa and Hastings College in Nebraska. The Rev. Rundus was ordained in 1957 in Kansas by Solomon Presbytery in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
Rev. Rundus served churches in Cascade, Iowa, Amboy, Faribault, and Pipestone, Minn. before coming to First Presbyterian Church of Sterling in 1970. The Rev. Rundus has had a distinguished 24-year career in Sterling. His service to the community has been varied and extensive in the areas of the Ministerial Association, Community Concert Association, Sterling Arts Council, Logan County Hospital, Rotary Club, Physicians Recruitment Committee, Hospice Chaplaincy Board, and Logan County Youth Coordinating Council.
The Rev. Rundus was recognized for his service to Sterling and the recipient of the 1990 Citizen of the Year Award presented by the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, and the 1992 Rotary Award for Support of Youth. As a member of the Centennial Mental health Board he was instrumental in bringing mental health services to the chronically mentally ill, those addicted to drugs and alcohol, and victims of domestic abuse. He also provided leadership in instituting the local Hospice program which provided invaluable comfort and support to him and his family during his final battle with cancer.
Along with the community involvement, Dr. Rundus was a leader in Boulder Presbytery serving as moderator, Chair of the General Council, and moderator of the Committee on Ministry, where he provided counsel and support to many churches and pastors in the area. Soon after arriving in Sterling he started offering weekly voice lessons to 12-15 students from the surrounding area. Many young singers benefited from this ministry over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes, two sons, Vince and wife Jena of Broomfield; Elwyn and wife Latisha of Las Vegas; two daughters, Katharin Rundus and husband Steven Wirth of Seal Beach, Calif. and; Carolyn Jan and husband Eric Lord of Berthoud; and two grandsons.

Mrs. Josephine Rundus, 89, died at her home on August 18, 1991.
She was born on October 23, 1901, the daughter of Frank and Josephine Hubka in Chicago, Ill.
She was a member of the Emmanual Baptist Church in Chicago, Ill., taught Sunday School and worked with the youth. She was employed by Sears, Roebuck as a stenographer for 13 years. She graduated from the Moody Bible Institute Evening School in June of 1929.

| Obituary- Rundus, Josephine 2 She married Benjamin A. Rundus on August 3, 1929. He was a minister serving the Presbyterian Church at Miltonvale, Kansas. They went on to Kipp, and then Unadilla, Nebr. In 1938, they began serving Czech churches, first in Winnepeg, Canada, then Eagle, S.D., Omaha, Nebr., Tabor and Tyndall, S.D. They had six children.
In 1948 they returned to Kansas, serving in Rossville, Delia, Scottsville, Jamestown and Delphos. They retired to Munden in 1972.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976, a son, Benjamin Herbert in 1960, and daughter, Faith Bishop, in 1985.
Survivors include two daughters, Josephine Strnad, and Anita Strnad, Munden; two sons, Wesley Rundus, Munden, and Dr. Timothy Rundus, Bonner Springs; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Zion Evangelical Church, Munden, on Tuesday, August 20, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Onesimus Rundus and Pastor Jim Woldhuis officiating.
Burial was in Tabor Cemetery.

Carl V. Rupin
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parker-Price Mortuary for Carl Victor “Doc” Rupin, 78, Topeka. He died Friday, March 11, 1988, at his home.
Dr. Robert D. Jensen, Shawnee County deputy district coroner, said Mr. Rupin died of natural causes.
Mr. Rupin was in the irrigation and grain business. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was born Oct. 16, 1909, at Topeka, the son of Dr. Anton and Alma Adina Nelson Rupin. He lived in Rossville 25 years and lived in Topeka many years.
Mr. Rupin was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church, an American Legion Post and Moose Lodge No. 555 at Topeka. He was an officer in the Berry Grain Co. Inc.
His first wife, Mrs. Mary Rupin, died in 1953. He married Mildred Binney Berry in December 1956. She died in 1963.
Survivors include two stepsons, Robert L. Berry, Topeka, and Leo Berry, Rossville; a brother, Ray Rupin, Scranton; two sisters, Adina Miller, Phoenix, Ariz., and Elizabeth Scott, Topeka; six stepgrandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Rupin will lie in state after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the mortuary where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5375 S.W. 7th, 66606.

Mrs. Mildred Rupin died Wednesday morning in a Topeka hospital after a long illness. Born January 29, 1907, at Rossville, Mrs. Rupin had lived all her life here.
She was a member of the Rossville Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Carl, of the home; two sons, Leo Berry of Rossville and Bob Berry of Lincoln, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren; her mother in-law, Mrs. Alma Rupin and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Rossville Methodist Church, the Rev. Don Jones officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Don Berkey, soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Joe Campbell at the organ. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery, Pallbearers were Roll and Parr, Thornton McClain, Howard French, Bill Gentry, George Sullivan and William Hesse.

Goodrum; one sister, Mrs. Addie Pace of Los Angeles, and one brother Fred Cagwin of California.
Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Methodist church. Burial will be made in the Rossville cemetery.

Delbert is survived by one niece, Robin Kinzer of Humble, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, by one brother, Phillip Russell, and by one sister, Goldie Gates.

BILLERICA, Mass. — Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Rossville, Kan., Cemetery for Emily Ann Rust, 4-month-old daughter of William J. and Marcilyn E. Strimple Rust, Billerica, Mass. She died Sept. 22, 1990, in a Boston hospital. She was premature.
She was born May 12, 1990, at a Billerica hospital.
Survivors besides her parents include a sister, Shannon E. Rust of the home; grandparents, James Rust and Clyde and Maxine Strimple, all of Kansas City, Kan.; and a great-grandmother, Lydia Dolezilek Strimple, Rossville, Kan.

Mrs. Golda A. Rutledge, 49, died Thursday, Nov. 28th, at her home, 2816 Hazelton Court, after a few month illness. She was born August 28, 1891, near Rossville, and had been a resident of this community all of her life. She was married to B. B. Rutledge in June, this year and since that time had made her home in Topeka.
She was the daughter of the late W. V. Hook. She was a member of the Methodist Church and Eastern Star of Rossville.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3:30 at the Wall- Diffenderfer Mortuary, with the Rev. B. P. Broadfoot of the Rossville Methodist Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. H. L. Nelson of Topeka. Music was furnished by Mr. Ball of Topeka, who sang two solos, “Whispering Hope” and “Going Home”, accompanied by his mother.
The O. E. S. burial service was exemplified by Amaryllis Chapter, of Rossville at the Chapel instead of the grave side.
“Golda” as a wide circle of friends knew her, was blessed with a happy disposition and scattered sunshine wherever she might foe. She was a very successful school teacher having taught rural schools, in Rossville city school and the Willard

Gladys Willa Davis Ryan
Gladys Willa (Davis) Ryan, 105, of Topeka, died Monday, June 15, 2015, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. She was born April 3,1910, at Rossville, the daughter of Denny Morgan and Grace Lucinda (Alexander) Davis.
Gladys was raised on the family farm at Rossville; graduated Rossville High School and in 1933 from Christ Hospital School of Nursing. In Colby she was a visiting home nurse.
She enjoyed oil painting.
She married Gerald Ryan in 1936. They lived in Wyoming for 50 years where she was active in her husband’s business. Gerald worked for a seismograph crew searching for oil and also did some uranium mining. He preceded her in death in December, 1991.
After the death of her husband she returned to Rossville to be near her sister and brothers. She moved to the Presbyterian Manor of Topeka on July 17, 2002.
Surviving are a sister: Eva L. Graves of Topeka; two nieces: Fran Schofield of Idaho Falls, ID and Janet Richards of Blackwell, OK; and a nephew: Fred Davis of Harrisonville, MO. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister:
Minnie Hause; and two brothers: John Davis and Jim Davis.

| Obituary- Ryder, Clarissa 1 Clarissa Leona Griswold was born February 15, 1907, in Rossville, Kansas, and died July 16, 1955, at (he age of 48 years, 5 months and 1 day, a victim of an automobile accident near Ponca City, Oklahoma.
She was reared in Rossville where she received her early education, graduating from the Rossville high school in 1925.
She was a graduate of New England conservatory of music in Boston Mass., and received her masters degree in music education from the University of Kansas at Lawrence. She taught music several years in the public schools and the Junior College at Parsons, Kansas. She was a member of the Methodist Church and took an active part in church work from childhood.
She was married to Rev. George E. Ryder August 19, 1946. To this union one daughter was born, Marilyn Claire October 24, 1949.
Surviving are her husband and daughter; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Griswold of Rossville, Kansas; two brothers, Leslie H. Griswold of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Sherwin B Griswold of Newton, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Wayne Lyon of Newton Kansas.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 19, at 2 pm in the Rossville Methodist Church Rev. Calvin L. Moore, substituting for Rev. Ryder at Oakhurst Methodist Church officiating, assisted by Dr. James Brett Kenna, district superintendent of the Kansas City district. Pianist was Mrs. Irene Campbell and soloist was Mrs. Mary Jane Berkey.
Active Pallbearers: Clyde Rogers. Howard Stiles, Homer Reid, Ralph Page, Joe Gresser, and Roy Wilt. Honorary Pallbearers: Ralph Ramsey Edgar Overbey, Richard Robinson Vent Drake, Fred Engleman and Fred Collins.

Mrs. Clarissa Leona Ryder
Funeral services for Mrs. Leona Ryder, 48, Kansas City, who was killed Saturday afternoon in a crash near Ponca City, Oklahoma, were held at 2 pm Tuesday in the Rossville Methodist church. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery.
Mrs. Ryder’s husband, the Rev. George B. Ryder, 51, of Oakhurst Methodist church in Kansas City, was injured critically, and their 5-year-old daughter, Marilly, was injured slightly. Three other persons were killed in the crash.
Mrs. Ryder was born February 15, 1907, at Rossville. She is survived by her husband; her daughter; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Griswold of Rossville; two brothers, Leslie H. Griswold, Shawnee, Okla., and Sherwin B. Griswold, Newton; and a sister, Mrs. Wayne Lyon, Newton.
Pallbearers at the funeral were Clyde Rogers, Ralph Page, Howard Stiles, Homer Reid, Joe Gresser, and Roy Wilt. Rev. Calvin Moore was in charge of the service, Mrs. Mary Jane Berkey was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Irene Campbell. Hurley funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Safarik was a maintenance mechanic and fireman for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 34 years before he retired in 1998. He served in the Navy aboard the submarine USS Growler from 1958 to 1964, and he served on Johnson Island during the Vietnam War.
He was born May 24,1940, in Hiawatha, the son of Leroy E. and Carol Hess Safarik. He moved to the Elmont area in 1984.
Mr. Safarik was a member of the Wetmore United Methodist Church and the Eagles Lodge in Holton. He was a life member of the Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville. He also was a life member and past commander of Goodyear Post No. 2187 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Topeka.
He married Regina Hanrahan on Aug. 16, 1988, at Miami, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Pladies, Topeka, and Kelli Proehl, Emporia; a son, Kevin Safarik, Topeka; a stepdaughter, Debra Heideman, Wamego; six stepsons, Donald Mulanax, St. Marys, Richard Mulanax, Wamego, Mark Mulanax, Topeka, Michael Goss, Topeka, William Goss, Lake Stevens, Wash., and David Goss Jr., Everett, Wash.; a brother, David E. Safarik, Hoyt; a sister, Judith C. Hollabaugh, Topeka; three grandchildren; 21 stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat- granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Northland Christian Church. Burial will be at Half-Day Cemetery at Elmont. Post No. 31 of the American Legion will conduct military services at the graveside.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the funeral home.

| Obituary- Safford, George George Carley Safford
WAMEGO—George Carley Safford joined the Heavenly Chorus on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. He was born to Harry and Blanche Marie Carley Salford on January 3,1929.
George spent his formative life at his Grandmother Safford and Grandmother Carleys homes. He had one sister, Leola Belle Safford of whom he was very fond of. It was she and him against the world all of their lives.
George spent two years serving in the United States Army during WW II and seven years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a printer by trade and printed all of St. Francis Hospitals forms for 23 years.
He is survived by two cousins, Jennifer David, Aurora, CO., and Pauline Conley, Delia.
Graveside inurnment will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville United Methodist Church and sent in care of Piper Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 642, Rossville, Kansas 66533.

ROSSVILLE — Harvey Sage, 93,
Rossville, died Friday, Nov. 10, 1995, at a Rossville nursing home.
Mr. Sage worked for the Washburn
University maintenance department for many years. Before that, he farmed in the Dover community and had been a gasoline tank truck driver.
He was born Nov. 1, 1902, at Dover, the son of Edwin and Ann Scott Sage. He grew up in the Dover community and moved to Rossville in 1955.
He was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church, Dover Masonic Lodge No. 138, AF&AM at Dover and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mr. Sage married Fern Vivian Hickey April 20, 1931, at Council Grove. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Arlyn Sage, Rossville; one sister, Ellen Randall, Topeka; and five grandchild-ren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery with Masonic graveside services conducted by Dover Lodge No. 138 AF&AM. Mr. Sage will lie in state today from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at Piper-Verschelden Funeral home, where the family will receive friends at that time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders organization and sent in care of the funeral home.

Mrs. Agnes D. Sage, 88, of Silver Lake, died Sunday morning in a Topeka hospital. She was born January 1,1870, at Brechin, Scotland, and spent most of her life in the Dover & Silver Lake communities.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Her husband, Albert W. Sage died in 1914. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frank Colter, Silver Lake, and Mrs. L. N. Annen. Topeka; a son. R. J. Sage, Topeka; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 pm Tuesday at Parker Mortuary with burial in Silver Lake Cemetery.

| Obituary- Sage, Albert TWO WELL KNOWN MEN DEAD
Albert Sage, a pioneer settler of Shawnee died last Sunday evening at a hospital in Kansas City and the body was brought to Silver Lake Monday. The funeral was held from the Sage home one mile south of Silver Lake.
The Masonic lodge had charge of the funeral and one of the greatest crowds ever in attendance at a funeral came to pay their last respects to Mr. Sage. Mr. Sage was born in Syracuse, N. Y. 61 years ago and came to Kansas about the time of the civil war. He settled near Dover. Later he moved to Silver Lake. He is survived by his widow, and three children, Mrs. Lewis Annan, Robert and Ruth Sage.

Arlyn Harvey Sage,78 Rossville passed away Tuesday, March 28,2017 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
He was born February 25, 1939 at Dover the son of J. Harvey and Fern V. Hickey Sage. Arlyn grew up in the Dover and Rossville communities and graduated from Rossville High School. He also was a graduate of Washburn University, Topeka.
Arlyn retired from the United States Air Force in 1982 at the rank of Major after 20 years of service. He later worked for Roach Hardware in Topeka many years. He had lived in the Rossville community many years and was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church and Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion. He attended the Assemblies of God Junction Korean Church with his wife Sunye. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was united in marriage to Song Sunye on December 4, 1982 at Abilene, TX. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three sons, John, Joseph and David Sage; two daughters, Teresa and Judy Sage; four grandsons.
Funeral services were Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the Dover Cemetery.

ROSSVILLE - Austin M. “Auty” Sage, 86, a resident of the Dover, Willard and Rossville communities all his life, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was born Sept. 14, 1917, near Dover, the son of Thomas P. and Amelia Best Sage. He married Luella Olson on Feb. 11, 1942, in Topeka. He farmed all his life and had worked for Washburn University in Topeka for 27 years. He was a member of Dover Federated Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his wife, Luella Sage, of the home; a daughter, Arietta Nichols, Topeka; a son, Melvin Sage, Topeka; a sister, Helen Musick, Dover; five grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dover Federated Church. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery, Dover. Mrs. Elizabeth Sage, 79, Has Resided in Kansas Since 1851
Mrs. Eliza Sage, 79, pioneer resident of Dover, died at the home of her son, Fred Sage, 510 Topeka Ave. yesterday morning. Mrs. Sage came
to Kansas with her parents when she was 6 years old. She resided in Topeka when it had only one store. Later she moved to a farm near Dover.
She was married to Aaron Sage at Dover September 11, 1865, and made her home near Dover until three years ago, when she came to Topeka Besides her husband, she is survived by three children, George Sage and Fred Sage, Topeka, and Mrs. Minnie Bundy, Dover, and two grandchildren, Miss Doris Miler and Harley Sage, Topeka.
Lincoln Circle No. 1. Ladies of the G. A. R. will hold a short ritualistic service at the Sage home at 10 o’clock Thursday morning. Funeral services will be at the Dover Methodist church at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon. Burial will be in Dover cemetery.

Ernest V. Sage, 68, Topeka, died Saturday, May 19, 1979, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born December 25, 1910, in Kansas. He lived in Topeka most of his life.
He worked 40 years at M. W. Watson Construction Co. before retiring in 1972.
He was married to Florence Simpson April 23, 1930, in Alma. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Laura Gray, Redwood City, Calif.; two sons, Morris Sage, Zion, Ill., and Ernest V. Sage, Jr., Olympia, Wash.; a brother, John Sage, Route 8 (Willard), Topeka; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday (today) at Parker-Price Mortuary. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery.
