| 6151 |  | Obituary- Hass, Robert ROBERT H. HASS Robert Herman Nass, 79, retired farmer from Rossville, died Wednes¬day morning in the Topeka nursing home where he had lived for two years. He was born March 12, 1876, in Holton and had lived most of his life in Rossville. He was a member of the First Church of the Brethren of Topeka. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Eva Davis of Rossville and Mrs. Nora Grant of Palisade, Colo., and six nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p. m. in the Presbyterian Church at Rossville with burial in the Rossville Cemetery. Hurley funeral home is in charge of arrangements. | |

| 6153 |  | Obituary- Hatzenbihler, Jodie Jodie Christa Hatzenbihler OLATHE—Jodie Christa Hatzenbihler, 25, of Olathe, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005, at KU Medical Center. She was born Dec. 24, 1979, in Springfield, Ore., to Dean and Crystal Hickle Hatzenbihler. Jodie graduated from Linfield School of Nursing in Portland, Ore., with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for KU Medical Center. Survivors include her parents, Dean and Crystal Hatzenbihler, Salem, Ore.; a brother, Joel Hatzenbihler, Salem, Ore.; a sister, Janel Hatzenbihler, Salem Ore.; grandparents Doris Hickle, North Dakota, M.J. and Cecelia Hatzenbihler, North Dakota; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and a special friend, Jon Ross, Topeka. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home in Topeka. Another memorial service will be held in Salem, Ore., at Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Monday, April 18, 2005. | 6154 |  | Obituary- Hause, Alfred 1 Alfred House dies suddenly Alfred L. Hause, 60, of Rossville died Thursday morning in a Topeka hospital. He was born Nov. 25, 1902, at Westmoreland. For about 35 years he was a resident of Rossville, where he was the owner and operator of a battery and carburetor shop. Mr. Hause was past master of Hesperian Lodge No. 111, AF&AM, at Rossville and past district deputy of the Grand Lodge. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Minnie Hause, and a daughter, Janet Sue Hause, both of the home; a brother, Walter Hause of Salem, S.D.; a sister, Mrs. Zetta Darnell of Hastings, Neb.; and several nephews and nieces. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Parker Mortuary in Topeka. Hesperian Lodge conducted graveside rites in the Rossville Cemetery. | 6155 |  | Obituary- Hause, Alfred 2 Rossville lost a friend… A friend of Rossville slipped away from us last week. Many of us are still in shock over the sudden passing away of Alfred Hause, better known by us as just ‘'Hausey”. Hausey will be missed. His friendly visit down Main Street almost every day was expected. You could nearly always be sure Hausey would at least open the door for a friendly hello and usually to recite some bit of humor. To this newspaper, Hausey was a little more than a friend. He was the chief mechanic in the older days when we had the big old iron press and linotype machine. He could always patch them up in one way or other so the newspaper could go to press. Our modern equipment in the later years nearly put Hausey out of work at the Reporter, but he still came around just to see if everything was running smoothly. Although this newspaper may feel a little special toward Hausey, he was the same friend indeed to many in this area. Other businessmen would depend upon Hausey’s friendly visits and many farmers depended upon him for mechanical service. He belonged to the Rossville Fire Department for so many years that the records don’t go back far enough. He served on the fire department even before the town had trucks. His other big interest in the community was with the Hesperian Lodge. Rossville will suffer the loss of Alfred Hause; along with him he is taking another business from Rossville. The Rossville Battery Shop operation cannot be run like it was operated before without Hausey. There is no replacement. Yes, Hausey will be remembered in Rossville for years to come. We’ll miss his wit and humor coming at times when it was needed most. We’ll miss his little visits and we’ll miss his repair work when it was needed most. We’ll just miss Hausey in Rossville, he was a friend! | |

Besides her parents, she is survived by a brother, Allen Wayne Hause of the home; her grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. Ernest Norton and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Marney all of Rossville; and her great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Marney, Topeka. Funeral services will be at 2 p. Friday at the Rossville Christian Church with burial in Rossville Cemetery. Parker Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. | 6157 |  | Obituary- Hause, Glenn Glenn E. Hause Glenn E. Hause, 89, of Topeka, passed away Monday, December 7, 2015. He was born October 30, 1926, in Rossville, Kansas, the son of Oscar and Blanche (Tuller) Hause. He was a graduate of Rossville High School and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Glenn was employed by the United States Postal Service for 34 years and Shawnee County Parks & Recreation. He was a member of the Jimmie Lillard Post 31 of the American Legion in Rossville and enjoyed volunteering for TARC. Glenn married Violet A. Neeley on February 14, 1955, in Lawrence, Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 16, 1999. Survivors include son, Marvin (Jeanni) Wilson; daughters, Marilyn Holloway, Glenda (Robert) Backerman, Wanda (Ralph) Knight, Lori (Brian) McCann, and Julie (Wade) McNorton; daughter-in-law, Joyce Wilson; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son, Richard Wilson; and four siblings. Glenn was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2015, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66608. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment of the cremated remains will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. | 6158 |  | Obituary- Hause, John Death of J.A. Hause J.A. Hause, who came to Rossville from Hoxie last year, died Wednesday morning at his home of dropsy of the heart. Mr. Hause was 66 years old. He was born in Green county, Ohio, February 20, 1846. When only 18 years of age he enlisted in Company E, 154th Ohio, and remained in the army until the close of the Civil War. He came to Kansas in 1875. Three years later he was married to Miss Elizabeth Anna Miller, and to them ten children were born, eight of whom, with Mrs. Hause, survive him. They are: Oscar Hause of Rossville, K.A. Hause of Westmoreland, Mrs. Emma Burnette of Manhattan, Mrs. Laura Brooks of Lenexa, Mrs. Lizetta Darnell of St. George, and Henry, Walter and Alfred Hause, who are at home. Mr. Hause pre-empted a homestead near Westmoreland, and later moved to Hoxie, and from there came to Rossville. He was a member of the United Brethren church and of the G.A.R. In every community of which he was a resident he had the respect and friendship of his neighbors. The funeral service was held early Wednesday evening from the home, and conducted by Rev. H.R. Orr. | 6159 |  | Obituary- Hause, Minnie Minne E. Hause Mrs. Minnie E. Hause, 74, formerly of Rossville, died Wednesday, August 31, 1983, at a Topeka hospital. She was born September 27, 1908, at Rossville, the daughter of Denny and Grace Alexander Davis. Mrs. Hause formerly was a nurse’s aide at the Silver Lake Nursing Home. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Amaryllis Chapter No. 321 of Order of Eastern Star, both at Rossville, and Royal Neighbors of America Camp No. 148. She was married to Alfred Hause June 23, 1938, in Topeka. He died December 20, 1962. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Janet Richards, Blackwell, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Ryan, Casper, Wyo., and Mrs. Eva Graves, Topeka; two brothers, James Davis and John Davis, both of Rossville; and two grandchildren. Services were at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Parker-Price Mortuary, Topeka. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery. Relatives and friends met from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. | |

She died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at a Topeka nursing home. Mrs. Hause worked at Seymour’s Foods for five years and later for Modern Office Methods for seven years. She retired in 1987. She was born July 8, 1926, in Topeka, the daughter of Claude F. and Pearl Mildred Hall Neeley. She lived in Topeka, Silver Lake, again in Topeka and then in Rossville before she moved back to Topeka in 1980. She married Glenn E. Hause on Feb. 14, 1955, in Lawrence. He survives. Other survivors include five daughters, Marilyn J. Holloway, Glenda S. Backerman, Wanda A. Knight, Lori E. McCann and Julie A. Grippo, all of Topeka; two sons, Marvin J. Wilson, Lebanon, Mo., and Richard E. Wilson, Topeka; a sister, Bonnie M. Dolsky, Hyder, Alaska; three brothers, Kenneth D. Neeley, Hastings, Neb., Lee Neeley, Topeka, and Melvin E. Neeley, Pensacola, Fla.; 19 grand-children; and five great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. | 6161 |  | Obituary- Haverkamp, Daniel Daniel Edward Haverkamp Danny Haverkamp, 63, Silver Lake, died peacefully Saturday, June 28, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. He was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia in 2012. He was born February 1, 1951, at Goff, the son of Cletus and Ann Haverkamp. Danny previously worked at Goodyear and retired from Dillon’s as a meat cutter. He was a longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Rossville and attended First Baptist Church in Silver Lake. He enjoyed spending time on his farm at Corning. He especially loved being around his children and grandchildren and attending their activities. He was married to Connie Glissman on June 10, 1972, in Kelly. Surviving are his wife, Connie Haverkamp; children: Tamra Scheid (Ben), Stacy Johnson (Courtney), Michelle Petry (Austin); his parents: Cletus and Ann Haverkamp; siblings: Mary Ann Brokamp (Harold), Dorothy Taylor (Harry), Cleta Haverkamp, Monica Shaughnessy (Mike), Gary Haverkamp (Diane), Vernon Haverkamp (Sue), Galen Haverkamp, and Sharon Haverkamp; and grandchildren: Peyton and Gentry Scheid, Kelsey, Gracie, Carson, Spencer and Dayne Johnson, and Hailey and Brielle Petry. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Rossville. Interment in Silver Lake Cemetery. WILLIAM HAWK IS DEAD DIABETES caused the death of Mrs. Frances Hawk, wife of William Hawk, of the Grove neighborhood, at 1 o'clock Saturday morning, November 18, 1916. The disease had fastened itself upon its victim at least three years ago, hut it was not until Wednesday night a week ago that the final attack prostrated her. Mrs. Hawk is survived by her mother, Mrs. Besta, of Delia; by three daughters, Edna, Golda and Hazel; by one son, Raymond; by four brothers and three sisters. The funeral service was conducted at the Walnut Hill Methodist church Sunday afternoon by Rev. William J. Groat, assisted by Rev. M. R. Holt. The maternal care of the stricken household for the present falls upon the tender shoulders of the oldest daughter, Edna, who is only 17 years of age. Mrs. Hawk was born Frances Besta in Austria 42 years ago. When she was about 8 years old she came with her parents to Kansas, the family settling near the present town of Delia, where the mother still lives. The deceased woman was twice married, the last time November 2, 1902, to William Hawk. Those who knew Mrs. Hawk speak highly of her as wife, mother and neighbor. | |

He was born June 25, 1906, north of Silver Lake where he lived all his life. He owned and operated the Hawk Garage before he retired several years ago because of ill health. He was married to Phyralene Irish on Oct. 2, 1935, at Falls City, Neb. She survives. | 6165 |  | Obituary- Hawk, William KANSAN since 1884 William hawk, 79, Dies Saturday At His Home in Grove. William Hawk, 79, died suddenly at his home in Grove, Saturday afternoon. Born in Athens, Ohio, in 1859, he moved to Kansas in 1884. He had lived at his farm home at Grove for the last twenty-seven years. Mr. Hawk had been in ill health for some time. He had gone out on his farm to mend fence in the afternoon and when he had not returned for sometime, his daughter tried to locate him. She found his body about a quarter mile from the house. She called neighbors, who assisted her in taking him to the home. Death was caused by heart disease. He is survived by a son, Raymond Hawk, Silver Lake; three daughters, Mrs. James King, Kansas City, Kan.; Mrs. Harold Wells, St. Marys, and Miss Gladys Hawk of the home. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Albert Shroyer, Topeka, Route 6; a sister, Mrs. Maggie Boyles, Silver Lake, and eight grandchildren. The body was taken to Shellabarger’s Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements. | |

Hawks who has been suffering for the past eight or ten weeks with a sort of paralysis, died at his home on the Howerton ranch north of town, last Friday morning at the age of 51 years 4 months and 27 days. The funeral was held in the Presbyterian church last Sunday afternoon. Revs. John H. Lamb and Colvin Holman officiating. A large number of friends gathered to pay their last respects to the departed. Mr. Hawks was born in Lucas County Iowa, on May 24, 1859; he came to Republic County, Kansas, with his parents in 1870; for the past fourteen years he has lived in and near Rossville; he was married on March 4, 1879, to Ida E. Haworth; four children were born to this union, two dying in infancy and two yet survive him. The deceased leaves to morn [sic] his loss his wife, a son and a daughter, his aged mother, four brothers, three sisters and many friends. When but a boy Mr. Hawks became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, and later became a member of the Friend church and remained a member of that church until his death. | |

| 6172 |  | Obituary- Hawks, Joseph From findagrave.com (KS) Cuba Daylight Jan. 25, 1917 Joseph Hawks was born in Lucas County, Iowa, June 5, 1865 and departed this life at the home of his brother, Frank, in Wymore, Nebr., January 10, 1917, at the age of 51 years, 7 months and 5 days. In the year 1870 he came wih his parents to Kansas, where he lived most of the time until in 1903, when he went to Arkansas, later returning to Kansas and from there to Nebraska where he has since resided until the time of his death. He converted while quite young and has always lived a conscientious and faithful christian life, and as the shadows of death gathered around him, gave clear evidence of going to his reward beyond the skies. He is not dead, but sleepeth. Blessed are the dead which died in the Loard. He leaves a mother, 2 brothers, 3 sisters and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. The funeral services were held at the home of his sister, Mrs. W. C. McCracken of this place, conducted by Rev. Snare, Pastor of the M.P. Church of Haddam, Kans., after which the remains were laid to rest in the Hawks Cemetery east of Cuba, Kansas. | |

| 6174 |  | Obituary- Hawks, Sarah SARAH ELIZABETH HAWKS Sarah Elizabeth Hawks, 85, died Tuesday in a Topeka hospital, where she had been a patient since breaking her hip in a fall a few weeks ago. She was born December 27, 1855, in Atchison County, [missing]. She came to Kansas in l8[missing] and settled in Republic County. She was a member of the Presbyterian church in Rossville. She is the last of a family of 8 brothers and 2 sisters. Five of the brothers served in the Civil War. She came to Republic County, Kansas, when a young girl and was married to William W. Hawks, Oct. 9, 1876. Most of her married life was spent in Kansas, the family coming to Rossville in 1895, where she has resided since. Mr. Hawks passed away in 1916. Since that time she has made her home with her foster daughter and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Zook. She is survived by her daughter and nephew, two half sisters, Mrs. Frances Work, of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Lulu Andrews of Missoula, Mont.; nephews, and two nieces and a host of friends. She become [sic] a Christian early in life, working in various churches. She become [sic] a member of the Presbyterian church in Rossville about 25 years ago and was active in all branches of the church work as long as she was physically able. Her last surviving brother, Peter Zook of Johnson, Nebr., died during her stay at the hospital. He was laid to rest Jan. 17th. Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at 2 p. m. in the Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. H. L. Nelson. Music was furnished by Mrs. Albert Reser and Mrs. Arlene Reid with Miss Frances Eversole, accompanying [sic] at the piano. Pallbearers were: Albert Reser, David Davis, F. R. Dannefer, Glenn Sebring, A. N, White, W. H. Kerr. Interment was in Rossville cemetery. SARAH ELIZABETH HAWKS Sarah Elizabeth Hawks, 85, Rossville, died Tuesday in a To¬peka hospital. She was born December 27, 1855, in Jefferson County, Missouri. She came to Kansas in 1873, and settled in Republic County. She was a resident of Rossville for the past forty-five years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Rossville. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank Zook, of Rossville; two half-sisters, Mrs. Frances Work, of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Lulu Andrews, of Missoula, Mont.; md several nieces and nephews. | 6175 |  | Obituary- Hawks, William Wm. Hawks Dead William Hawks died last Tuesday afternoon after an illness of several months duration, death being caused by cancer of the liver. The end had been foreseen by his family and relatives for several weeks and everything possible was done to make his last moments as comfortable as the nature of his ailment would permit. William Wallace Hawks was born in Lucas county, Iowa, July 4, 1857 and at the time of his death was 54 years and 9 months old. Mr. Hawks moved with his parents to Republic county, Kansas, in the fall of 1870. At the age of thirteen he was converted and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church. On Oct. 9, 1876, he was united in marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Zook. Later he and his wife united with the Society of Friends. In 1895 Mr. and Mrs. Hawks moved to Rossville and have since resided here. His kindly and genial disposition and his constant endeavor to live a Christian life early gained for him the respect and esteem od the entire community. Mr. Hawks identified himself with the Presbyterian church upon his arrival here and has always been a worker in every one of the church's various activities. Sometime before his death, he had written for a letter from his own organization to become a member of the Presbyterian church. Besides his devoted wife and daughter, he leaves an aged mother, three brothers and three sisters. At his bedside during this last hours were his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zook, of Rossville, his brother; A.J. Hawks of Gentry, Ark. and H.F. Hawks of Wymore, Neb., his sisters Mrs. W.C. McCracken of Cuba, Ks. and Mrs. W.H. Williamson of Haddam, Kansas. The funeral was held today in Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. Lowell was born June 15, 1918, in Cherryvale, Kan., to Bert D. and Bessie Page Hayes. Lowell graduated high school in Rossville. He received his Bachelors of Science in Education from the Kansas State Teaching College and later received his Master’s Degree from what is now the University of Northern Colorado. During his college career, Lowell was a member of Kappi Delta Pi. On Oct. 18, 1947, Lowell married Vera Joyce Atterberry in De Queen, Ark. Lowell taught Industrial Arts in Tucson, Ariz., for 29 years. He taught at Spring Junior High School, Utterback Junior High School, Fickett Junior High School and Rincon High School. Along with many other accomplishments, he built three of the families homes in Tucson. Lowell was a B-24 pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served the 15th Air Force, 49th Bomb Wing, 484th Bombardment Group, 825th Squadron in World War II. Lowell received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He was a past president of the Tucson Chapter of the Reserve Officers Association. Lowell is survived by his daughter Loyce (Gary) Bolin of Fort Collins, Colorado; son Gary P. (Rebecca) Hayes of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Bernita Hayes Nidiffer of Pampa, Texas; grandchildren, Eric P. Hayes of Tucson and Jessica, Kelly and Sean Bolin of Fort Collins; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents, wife, two brothers and three sisters. Rita worked as a clerk at the Topeka offices of the Sante Fe Railroad during WWII, and married Henry S. Heigert on May 5, 1945 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Newbury. They lived in Colby, Kansas while Henry worked as a foreman at Colby Experiment Station from 1947 to 1957. They moved backtoPaxicoinl957, and operated the Home Oil Co. and Paxico Fina service station, with Rita working as the bookkeeper until their retirement in 1981. She was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Sodality. She was also a member of the Paxico Senior Center. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, dancing, roller skating, and was an avid swimmer. She loved to take vacations, and especially loved sharing time at the lake with her family. Rita’s survivors include, three sons: Tom Heigert (Joyce), and Donald Heigert, all of Paxico, KS, and Charles Heigert (Marty) of Alma, KS; four daughters: Susan Hernandez of Kansas City, KS, Kathy Bahner (Tom) of Rossville, KS, Ann Jegel (Joe) of Topeka, KS, and Ramona Roth (Dan) of Paxico, KS; 16 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Henry Heigert; one sister, Agnes; and one brother, Jerome. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Jan. 14th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Newbury. Burial followed in the church cemetery. | 6197 |  | Obituary- Heiland, Fred C. 1 Fred Heiland Frederic C. Heiland, aged 62, a resident of the Rossville community for 36 years, died Thursday morning at the S.B.A. hospital in Topeka. He was born in Germany, Dec. 10, 1882, and died March 16, 1944. He came to America on Labor Day in 1904, and made his home for two years at Grantville, Ks., before coming to Rossville. He worked on the Mulvane ranch for 22 months, before he started farming for himself on the Chris Hemme farm, where he made his home until his death. He was married to Ida Gutshall, Feb. 7, 1911 at Topeka. To this union was born three children. He is survived by his wife, Ida Heiland, one daughter, Mrs. LeRoy Graff, of Kiro; two sons, Fred and Harley Heiland of the home, and one granddaughter, Barbara Lou DeGraff. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Presbyterian church with the Rev. N.P. Olney, pastor of the church officiating. Burial was in Rossville cemetery. Music was furnished by Mrs. Albert Reser and Mrs. Home Reid with Mrs. Ruby Sawitzke accompanying at the piano. The pall bearers were Ray Parr, Perry Stumbaugh, F.P. McCollough, Cecil Lemon, and Martin Whearty. FRED C. HEILAND - 16 March 1944 Fred C. Heiland passed away this Thursday morning at 2:30.
