She was born Oct. 23, 1881, at Rossville and was a resi¬dent of Shawnee County all her life. Mrs. Martin was a mem¬ber of the Lowman Memorial Methodist Church and Helena Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Sam Martin, preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John Cardwell, 1220 Kellam, and Mrs. Wendell B. Jones of Galves¬ton, Tex.; two sons, Francis H. Martin, 1726 Belvoir Court, and Merle F. Martin, 1307 Polk; five grandchil¬dren; seven great-grand-children; and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Conlan of Miami, Fla. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with burial in the Silver Lake Cemetery. | |

Raymond was born in Willard, Kansas, the son of John and Viola Burns Martin. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1946. Raymond married Florence Ketter on September 4, 1950, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. He worked for Southwestern Bell and retired in 1982. Raymond was a member of the Shawnee County Amateur Baseball Assocatian (SCABA), Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and proud member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. He enjoyed fishing, coaching, singing, playing cards and passing along philosophical life quotes. Raymond was an amazing father, grandpa, papa and old papa and he will be greatly missed. Raymond is survived by his children, Sharon Martin, Loretta Sickmann (Kenton), Theresa Adame (Dominic), Phillip Martin (Debra) and Lawrence Martin (Kim); grandchildren, Rachel Adame Anderson (Nick), Lisa Adame Walker (Brad), Lauren Martin Moore (Cole), Luke Martin, Reily Martin (Nicole) and Jayde Martin Brummer (Zach); and great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Mason Walker, Dominic Anderson, Addilyn, Easton and Evan Moore and Brooks Brummer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, and siblings, James, John, Robert and Dutch Martin, Nona Haltom and Bonnie VandeVelde. Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2024, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where visitation will follow until 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church, 3601 SW 17th Street, Topeka KS 66604. | 7753 |  | Obituary- Martin, Robert B. Robert Burns Martin Sr. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Robert Burns Martin Sr., 67, Kansas City, formerly of Rossville, Kan., died Wednesday, March 28, 1990, at his home. Mr. Martin was a telephone repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. before he retired. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Central Pacific. He had received the China War Memorial award. He was born Jan. 12, 1923, In Rossville, Kan., the son of John Stanley and Viola Mary Burns Martin. Mr. Martin was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America in Topeka and Communication Workers of America and was a former member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah K. Martin, San Jose, Calif., and Christina Calvert, Shawnee; a son, Robert B. Martin Jr., Grandview, Mo.; his father, John S. Martin, Rossville; two sisters, Bonnie VandeVelde, Kansas City, Kan., and Nona Haltom, Lawton, Okla.; three brothers, James Martin, Lubbock, Texas, and Donald Martin and Raymond Martin, both of Topeka; and a granddaughter. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Mr. Martin owned and operated Marlin Motors in North Topeka. He was born November 1, 1925, at Independence, the son of Lewis A. and Cecil N. Edmondson Martin. He spent most of his life in Topeka. Mr. Martin was an Army vet¬eran of World War II and a mem¬ber of Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of Veterans of Foreign Wars and North Post No. 400 of the American Legion. He married Annabelle Hibbert May 6, 1950, in Topeka. She survives. A granddaughter, Karen Ann Heilman, died March 27, 1982. Other survivors include a daughter, Susie Heilman, Tope¬ka; a son, Robert L. Martin, Jr., Topeka; his father, Lewis A, Martin, Rossville; a brother, Harold L. Martin, Topeka; and a stepgrandchild. | 7755 |  | Obituary- Martin, Steven L. Steven “Jejak” Lee Michael Martin, 72, passed away August 13, 2022, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. He was born September 26, 1949, in Rossville, KS to Paul “Mook” and Nellie Irene (Gibson) Martin. Steve was a 1968 graduate of McPherson High School. He graduated from Brown Mackie College, Salina KS, with an associate's degree in business. Steve was a former employee of Farmland Industries, Willbros Pipeline Construction, and retired from Calm Creek Carriers as a truck driver. He was also co-owner of MSI Wireless. Steve was a family man and loved spending time with his family. He was a proud member of the Potawatomi Nation. In 1968, Steve married Judy Frickey and they later divorced. He then married, Deanne Smith Bowersox on June 27, 2008, in Hutchinson. Steve is survived by: his wife, Deanne of Hutchinson; children, Melissa Jill (Brian) Gibson of Owasso, OK, and Paul Jason “Jake” (Kelsey) Martin of Hutchinson; stepchildren, Shaelee (Chad) Mendenhall of Hutchinson, and Jaron Bowersox of Kansas City, KS; siblings, Mary Hudson and Pauline Bickford, both of Rossville, Henry (Carol) Martin of Hesston, KS, and C.D. (Diane) Martin of McPherson; grandchildren, Madison (Matt) Liley, McKinley (Jacob) Rincon, Brennan Gibson, Brighton Gibson, Jadyn (fiancé Dominick Andersen) Martin, Jordyn Martin, Jennalea Martin, Kai Mendenhall, Zayden Mendenall, and Oliviana Mendenhall; and great-grandson, Hudson Liley. She was born June 6, 1892, at Rossville, the daughter of Joseph and Julia Navarre Burns, and spent her life in the Rossville community. Mrs. Martin was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church at Rossville and the Altar Society at the church. She also was a member of the auxiliary to Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville. She was married to John S. Martin Sept. 16, 1916, in Topeka. He survives. Her husband preceded her in death. She was mother of 13 children, 11 of whom survive. They are: Vincent and William Martinek, Silver Lake; Steven Martinek, Topeka; Mrs. Agnes Kozad, Scranton; Mrs. Helen Macha, Council Grove; Mrs. Stella Kovar, Emil, Bennie, Henry and Albert Martinek of Rossville, and Mrs. Mae Brown, Kansas City, Mo. Also surviving are a brother, Joe Simecka, Delia; 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral ser¬vices were held at 8 a. m. Mrs. Martinek was a member of Silver Lake United Methodist Church, Grove Extension Homemaker Unit and a 50-year member of the ZCBJ Lodge in Rossville. She was married to William M. Martinek on Sept. 8, 1926, in Topeka. He died Sept. 14, 1981. She also was precede in death by a son, William D. Martinek, Feb. 26, 1989, and a great-grandson, Jeremy Martinek, in June 1989. Survivors include a daughter , Louise Redmon, Emmett; two sons, Orville Martinek, Silver Lake, and Robert Martinek, Las Cruces, N.M.: 13 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 a.m. Saturday at the Silver Lake United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Czech-Moravan Cemetery north of Rossville. | 7766 |  | Obituary- Martinek, Benedict 1 BENEDICT (SONNY) MARTINEK Benedict (Sonny) Martinek Jr., 11-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Martinek, was killed instantly Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 2, 1949, when the tractor he was driving overturned. He was operating the tractor on his father’s farm, and in turning at the end of the field a wheel climbed a post and his machine turned over. Martinek was in the field when the tragedy occurred, and had to summon help and use another tractor to release the boy. The Martinek farm home is located north east of Rossville. Surviving besides the parents, are two brothers, Douglas and Dwight; two grandmothers Mrs. Frank Diehl and Mrs. Agnes Martinek; and a number of aunts and uncles. He attended 101 rural school near Rossville, where he was a sixth-grader. Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart church at Delia, Thursday, at 9 a. m. with burial in the Mt. Martinek, was killed instantly, Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 2, 1949, when a tractor he was driving overturned. He was born in Rossville, Kansas, May 29, 1938, later moving to Delia, with his parents, until he was five years old. In 1943 his parents moved to the present farm home and Sonny attended Victor school, Dist. 101; Mr. Frank Strimple being his teacher all five years. Sonny was always cheerful and living his life to the fullest extent. He enjoyed being with both young and old. He was always doing something for his grandmothers to help make life easier for them. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish of Delia, where he assisted in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as an Altar boy. His faithful devotion to God and his teachings have won him a place in the Eternal City. Sonny had just returned home from spending two weeks at Camp St. Maur Hill, Atchison, Kans. In his letters home, his greatest wish was to help his Daddy plow. It was while doing this work the sad tragedy occurred. Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Parish at Delia, Thursday, Aug. 4, 1949, at 9 o’clock with Fr. McManus officiating. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery at St. Marys, Kansas. The honorary pallbearers were: Jimmy Simecka, Jackie Lane, Larry Lane, Billie Cantillon, Bobbie Simecka, Norman Simecka, Jody Muller and Eddie Besta. Active pallbearers were his uncles Emial Martinek, Ray Martinek, Richard Macha, Pete Kovar, Earl Diehl and George Diehl. The Martinek farm home is located north of Rossville. Surviving besides the parents, are two brothers , Douglas and Dwight; a grandmother, and a number of aunts and uncles. He attended a rural school near Rossville, where he was a sixth-grader. Funeral services will be held at the Sacred Heart Church at Delia, Thursday, at 9 a. m., with burial in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery at St. Marys. The body will lie in state at the Martinek home, north of Rossville, Wednesday evening, and rosary will re recited at 8 p. m., Wednesday, at the home. He spent most of his life in the Rossville and Delia communities and the past two years in Wimberley, Texas. He had been a teacher several years and was a farmer and stockman many years. He also was an insurance agent more than 40 years. Mr. Martinek was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wimberley, Texas. He served on the parish council at Sacred Heart Church and on church committees. He was an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 657 and a member of the Fourth Degree, both in St. Marys. He was a 50-year member of Moravian Lodge No. 128 in Delia. He was married to Ruth A. Diehl Aug. 24, 1937, in Delia. She survives. A son, Sonny V. Martinek, died Aug. 2, 1949. She was born November 2, 1907, in Delia, the daughter of Adolph and Mary Penaz Macha. She had lived in the Delia community all of her life until she moved to Rossville in March of 1990. She grew up in the Delia community and was graduated from Delia High School. She was the first registered born girl in the town of Delia. She worked for her father and brother in the Macha Hardware Store in Delia for many years. She was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church and later the Rossville Presbyterian Church. She married Ray Martinek on June 22, 1948, at Delia. He died October 23, 1951. An infant daughter also died. Two brothers, Richard Macha and Marvin Macha also died. Survivors are a brother, Edward A. Macha, Rossville, and several nephews and nieces. Her service was Friday at 10 a.m. at the Rossville Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. Clarence was born Nov. 20, 1925, in Rossville to Steven A. and Mary (Bravens) Martinek. He married Betty Bond January 17, 1948 at Holy Name Church. She survives. He was preceded in death by three children, Daniel Martinek, Cindy Scott and Mark Martinek and his great-grandson, Jacob Cain. He co-founded Martinek & Flynn Siding and Windows in 1957. Clarence had assisted people with their taxes for 63 years beginning his sophomore year in college. He hunted and fished as a younger man, but was most known to be a hard worker. Survivors include his wife of almost 65 years, Betty Martinek, Topeka; their children, Deb Flynn (Rick), Darrell Martinek (Brenda) and Tina Hunter (Shane); 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Authorities said he took his own life. He was born April 10, 1947, near Rossville, the son of Bennie J. and Ruth A. Diehl Martinek. He received a BS degree in physical education from Kansas State University in Manhattan and played professional baseball in the Detroit Tiger organization. He was principal and head teacher at Delia Grade School. Mr. Martinek owned and operated a farm and ranch and insurance business near Delia before he moved to Wimberley, Texas, about 10 years ago. While in Wimberley, he became recognized as a metal art sculptor. One of his sculptures was displayed at the entrance at the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, N.M., in May 1996. His works are included in an exhibit being shown in the United States and Japan over the next four years. He moved in 1995 to Canton, Texas, where he designed, created and developed a theme park and trade days market known as “Wild Willie II Mountain.” The event annually draws several thousand vendors. He was a member of St. Therese’s Catholic Church in Canton, Texas, and a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 11978 in Canton, Texas, and a member of the Fourth Degree. He was a member of the Moravian Lodge No. 128 in Rossville, Kan. While in Kansas, he served 11 years as president of the Board of Education for the school district covering Delia, Rossville and St. Marys. He was married to Beverly Davis May 31, 1969, in Delia. He was born Feb. 4, 1905, near Rossville, the son of Vincent and Agnes Simecka Martinek. He was raised in the Rossville community and attended Victor 101 School. Mr. Martinek was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia and St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. He married Regina Marie Ryan on June 26, 1929, in St. Marys. She died on July 3, 1989. Mr. Martinek also was preceded in death by a daughter, Agnes White, on Jan. 8, 1998, a son, Henry R. Martinek Jr., in 1941, and a granddaughter, Kathy Brinkman, on Oct. 21, 1991. | 7787 |  | Obituary- Martinek, Janet Janet L. Martinek, 83, died July 26, 2019, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, Kansas. She was born to Ross and Vera (Glass) Leggett, on June 8, 1936, in Fredonia, Kansas. Her early childhood was spent with her maternal grandparents, James and Iva P. Glass. In 1940, her mother, Vera, moved Janet and her brother, William, to Wichita, Kansas. From there they moved to a farm south of Silver Lake, Kansas, with her step-father, Carl Entsminger. Janet attended schools in rural Shawnee County and upon consolidation attended Silver Lake Grade School and High School, graduating in May, 1954. She was active in school and community activities, which included editing a national recognized high school newspaper, Eagle Flashes. At a time when there were no women’s athletics in high school, she was an avid cheerleader for all sports during those four years. Following graduation, Janet went to work (the next day) for the State of Kansas. On December 12, 1954, she married Orville Martinek, who survives. They celebrated their 64th anniversary in December. She worked for many years in various positions with the State of Kansas, the Kansas Legislature and Washburn University. While working for the Kansas Legislature, Janet wrote and compiled the first manual for Legislative Secretaries. She was assistant to the Press Secretary during the administration of Governor Robert F. Bennett, was administrative assistant to the Press Secretary and Office Manager for Attorney General, Robert T. Stephan. Janet then served as Deputy Press Secretary and Administrator at Cedar Crest during the administration of Governor Mike Hayden. She served in the President’s Office at Washburn University, as Office Specialist for two University Presidents, Hugh Thompson and Jerry B. Farley. While at Washburn, Janet took several classes toward a degree in Communications and actively supported campus beautification efforts. She retired from Washburn in 2001. Still not finished with employment outside of her home, Janet went to work for Senator Steve Morris and the Kansas Legislature. She retired again in 2006, but spent several more years working part-time in the Offices of Pinegar, Smith and Associates. Janet and Orville had three children, who survive: Kenneth (Stephanie), Tempe, AZ; Ronnie (Diane), Lake Wabaunsee, KS; Lesa (George Lambert), Rossville, KS. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Schuyler, Meghan (Brendan Deska), Shelby, Brian (Samantha), and Greg Martinek; Jordan, Cameron, Jacob and Emily Lambert, and two great-granddaughters, Malia Martinek and Elizabeth Lambert. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and a nephew. In recent years Janet discovered she had two half-sisters. One, Joyce Ahearn, deceased; and the other, Dorothy Krausnick, Buffalo, NY, survives. Her parents and brother, William Ward, preceded her in death. Active in the work of her church, Janet served in many capacities throughout the years: Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, numerous committees and councils within the church, including chairing the Building Committee that rebuilt the church after it burned in 1984. She remained active following retirement, serving as Secretary of the United Methodist Women and chair of the Scholarship Committee. She also chaired the Silver Lake Library Foundation Board of Directors, and was an active member of the Washburn University Campus Beautification Committee (which she helped organize). Janet was a former member of the Silver Lake School Board and an active member of the Foxie Ladies Red Hat Society Chapter, Silver Lake. Janet loved to read and go to movies with friends. She loved tending her flower pots, transplanting, trimming and sharing with friends. She loved to bake pies, cookies, cakes and other treats, and was never happier than when her children or grandchildren helped make Christmas cookies. Her favorite activities were watching her children and grandchildren in musicals, plays, school programs, and sports events of all kinds. She and Orville like to travel, when they could, spending much time at the lake or real trips to Oslo, Norway, Ireland, the New England states, and some western states. She was an avid KU basketball fan, loved the Royals, Chiefs and most of all, the Silver Lake Eagles. A life-long Republican, Janet worked in many campaigns, as a volunteer and paid staff member. She also served as a Shawnee County Precinct Committeewoman for several years. Martinek, son of Mrs. Agnes Martinek and the late Vincent Martinek of Rossville, passed away at St. Francis hospital on October 23, 1951, at 1:40 p. m. after an extended illness of two years. He was born July 17, 1903, on the Martinek farm, northeast of Rossville, where his mother still resides. Ray was 48 years, 3 months and 6 days old when he was taken away. He spent his entire life in this community as a farmer and later as an electrician, having owned and operated a successful electrical business in Delia. Since the REA lines started Ray has wired a big majority of the farm homes around here. He has made many friends in this way who will always remember his fine personality and loving ways he kept up during his courageous fight in his long illness. He was always happy and shared this with everyone. Ray voluntarily enlisted his services in World War II in July, 1942. He spent most of his 2 1-2 years in the Southwest Pacific as a member of Company F, 592nd Engineer Amphibian Regiment. He was also a member of Capitol Post American Legion No. 1 of Topeka; Sacred Heart Church in Delia and the Moravian Lodge No. 128, Rossville. On June 22, 1948, he was united in marriage to Bertha Macha of Delia. To this union was born a daughter who died in infancy. Surviving, besides his wife, Bertha Martinek, of the home are his mother Agnes Martinek, Rossville; four sisters, Mrs. Mae Brown, Kansas City, Mo.,; Mrs. H. Mrs. Martinek worked at the Genn Hospital in Wamego from 1948 to 1952. She was born Aug. 27, 1905, at St. Marys, the daughter of Michael and Anna Schoemann Ryan. She was graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing at Topeka in 1928. Mrs. Martinek was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. She was married to Henry R. Martinek June 26, 1929, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at St. Marys. He survives. A son, Henry R. Martinek Jr., died in 1941. Other survivors include three daughters, Agnes White, San Rafael, Calif., Mary Schumaker, St. Marys, and Jo Copeland, Rossville; a son, Vincent Martinek, Rossville; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great- great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys. Robert Eugene “Bob” Marbnek Robert Eugene “Bob” Martinek, 89, passed away in Las Cruces, NM Friday night July 13, 2018 at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice hav¬ing resided there a short time. Bob was born August 10,1928 in Delia, KS to Agnes and William Martinek. He grew up with a slightly older brother Bill and younger brother Orville and sister Louise on their family farm. He and Bill were inseparable growing up, so much so that when Bill entered first grade Bob had to go too, thereby being in the same class throughout their school years. He married Nancy Frey on April 16,1950 in Topeka, KS while both worked for the Santa Fe railroad in Topeka, Bob in the railyard and then the office. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in Silver Lake, KS in 1945 where he was known for his athletic ability and many pranks pulled with friends. He attended Washburn University in Topeka for 11/2 years on a football scholarship, finishing his education at Kansas University in Lawrence, KS and earning a BSEE with a minor in Math. He enrolled at Kansas University on the Gl bill after enlisting in the Air Force in 1951 and serving for 4 years attached to the Special Weapons Project. His service exposed him to the field of electronics which eventually became his life’s work. After graduating from Kansas University in 1958 he and his young family moved back to Albuquerque, NM, having been stationed there in the service. He first worked for Sandia Corporation remain¬ing there 3 years before joining Neely Enterprises in 1961, which eventually became a sales division of Hewlett Packard. During his tenure with Neely and Hewlett Packard he was named Salesman of the Month in 1965, promoted to Field Engineer in 1968 and moved from Albuquerque to Thousand Oaks, CA in early 1969, operating out of the North Hollywood office, then on to the Las Cruces office as manager in August 1969, retiring in 1986. He was a big sports fan, especially baseball - he & Nancy honeymooned in Chicago and attended a Cubs game - and enjoyed football and college basketball too. He tried out for a semi-pro baseball team prior to their marriage but the team disbanded due to infighting among the managers, leaving the team members stranded in Oklahoma City left to find their own way home. He and Nancy were avid bowlers for over 50 years. In Las Cruces he bowled in multiple leagues, served as league secretary many years, and bowled with the Chiles de Las Cruces and Las Cruces International Club. He and Nancy enjoyed traveling for bowling tournaments around the country and state, and he qualified for and bowled in many Senior National tournaments in the 75+ age group and the New Mexico Senior Olympics. They made many lifelong, awesome friends through bowling. Bob and Nancy traveled extensively in addition to that for bowling, visiting Spain and Morocco, multiple states, a 5 week self guided tour through 8 countries in Europe in 1984, Germany multiple times, England & Scotland, Sweden, Norway & Denmark, and cruised Alaska, the Caribbean & the Rhine River. They also enjoyed playing the slots at various casinos in New Mexico and Nevada. In earlier years he loved to fish with his brothers when visiting in Kansas and later with good friends from Las Cruces. At home Bob could be found taking meticulous care of their beautiful yard, conquering the daily crossword puzzle, sudoku and cryptoquip, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and avidly reading spy and intrigue novels, favorite authors being Clive Clussler, David Baldacci, Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum. Bob is survived by his wife of 68 years Nancy of Las Cruces, NM, daughter Mona Martinek of W Lafayette, IN, son Jay Martinek (Verena) of Schwalbach, Germany, grandchildren Sean, Samantha, and Macy Martinek of Schwalbach, Germany and great granddaughter Felicitas Luna also of Germany, brother Orville Martinek (Janet) of Silver Lake, KS, sister Louise Redmon of Silver Lake, KS, sister-in-law Donna Neuner of Topeka, KS, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was predeceased by father William (1981), brother Bill (1989) and mother Agnes (1994). Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm, Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Getz Funeral Home. She was born February 19, 1917 in Stockton, Kansas, daughter of Myrtle and Frank Diehl and graduated from Rossville High School in 1935. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia. She married Bennie Joseph Martinek on August 24, 1937 in Delia, Kansas. He died March 4, 1995. Two sons preceded her in death, Bennie (Sonny) V. Martinek and Dwight J. Martinek. Siblings preceding her in death were George and Earl Diehl, Alice Gentry, Ralph Nitzche and Ina Marney. Survivors include son, Douglas F. Martinek (Pat), Topeka, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday July 18, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 9:00 am with a Rosary following at 9:30 am. Mass services were held Friday morning at 10 a.m. July 21, at the Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Shepard officiating. He was buried at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka, with Brennan Mortuary in charge. Veterans of Foreign War Post of Topeka conducted military graveside services. Mr. Martinek was born August 3, 1897, on a farm northeast of Rossville to the late Vincent and Agnes Martinek. During his young life he farmed and operated the steam engine in the Martinek threshing rig. At one time he owned and operated the Motor In Garage at Rossville. In 1933 he move to Topeka where he worked for Kansas Power and Light until he retired in 1962. Since his retirement he enjoyed working on his small farm north of Grove as well as managing several other businesses. He was a World War I Veteran, a member of ZCBJ Moravian Lodge 128, Rossville, Kansas, and Holy Name Catholic Church, Topeka. He was married to Mary T. Bravence in 1920 at Rossville. She survives. To this union two sons were born. They are Steven J. Martinek, 1110 Lincoln and Clarence J. Martinek, 906 Gage, of Topeka. Other survivors include six brothers: Vincent Martinek, William Martinek, Silver Lake, and Albert Martinek, Emil Martinek, Henry Martinek, and Bennie Martinek, Rossville; four sisters: Mrs. Agnes Kozak, Osage City; Mrs. Mae Brown, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Helen Macha, Council Grove, and Mrs. Stella Kovar, Rossville; eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
