Timmons WAMEGO — Inurnment services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wamego City Cemetery for Mrs. Viola Baxter Timmons, 97, Edwardsville, who died late Sunday, Feb. 26, at an Edwardsville nursing home. She was born Feb. 3, 1887, at Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of James L. and Eliza Bloid Baxter. She was married to Rilev Timmons Jan. 4, 1911, at Westmoreland. He preceded her in death. A son, Louis Timmons, also preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Betty J. Kusler, Kansas City, Kan.; three sons, Carroll Timmons, Delia, Melvin Timmons Sr., Topeka, and Lyle Timmons, Manhattan; 25 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Timmons was cremated; Arnos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee is in charge of arrangements. | |
| 10302 |  | Obituary- Titus, Martha A Good Woman Called by Death The death of Mrs. Martha Titus occurred at her home in Hampshire, Saturday, July 3, at 11 o'clock a.m. She had been in poor health for about one year. Her last illness was of about eight weeks' duration, the final cause of her demise being kidney and heart trouble. Martha Reid was born in Kingston, Canada, April 18, 1856, and came with her parents, Alexander and Kathryn Reid, to Illinois in 1868, settling in Genoa township. She was united in marriage with George Wilson Titus October 18, 1877. They resided for a time in Genoa township and afterwards in Iowa. Returning to Illinois, Mr. Titus died about thirty-two years ago. Three children were born to them, Ernest, who died in 190, Alice, who died in infancy, and Jane, who has always resided with her mother. Shortly after her husband's death Mrs. Titus came to Hampshire, where she resided until her death. When about twenty years of age she was converted in a meeting conducted in the Ney church by Mrs. Jennie F. Caldwell and joined the Methodist Episcopal church, of which church she continued to be a member until her death. For a number of years she filled the difficult position of steward in the church and was also a teacher in the Sunday school. Her whole life was an example of devotion and faithfulness to every duty. She was ever ready to do her duty or fill her place. She was seldom absent from the services of the church except on account of sickness. Kind and retiring in her manner, true and upright in her life, she bore the confidence and esteem of all who knew her. Few would be more missed out of the society in which she moved and especially out of the church which was the center of her activities. Besides her daughter she leaves four brothers and four sisters. They are John of Kansas, Mrs. Alice Dettmer and Mrs. May Rich of South Dakota, William, Mrs. Maggie Burroughs and Mrs. Emma Corson of Genoa and James F. and Alexander of Hampshire. Hers was the first death among these brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday from the late home at 1 o'clock p.m. and thereafter at the M.E. church, Rev. W.H. Locke officiating. Burial was at Marengo. The casket bearers were: W.E. Doty, G.H. Bean, J.J. Weaver, F. Channing, H.H. Kirchoff and H.E. McDonough. The following were among those from out of town who were here to attend the funeral; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hall, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Norton, Mrs. S.M. Adams, John Hobro, David and Charles Reid, Mr. and Mrs. H. Corson of Elgin, Mrs. Flaherty, Dundee, Miss Lucy Pease, Geneva, Mrs. Spencer Wernham, Marengo, Wm. Reid and son Griffith, Mrs. Joseph Corson and three sons, Vernon, Daniel and Harold, Mrs. Maggie Burroughs and daughter Cassie and John and Stout Hepburn, Genoa, John Connors, Rockford, Mrs. May Rich and two children, Bath, S. Dak., Mrs. Ed Dittmer and daughter Delilah, Bridgewater, S. Dak. The above from the Hampshire (Ill.) Register, is the obituary of a sister of Mr. John Reid, the first death among Mr. Ried's sister and brothers. | |

Todd, 86, Dover, who died Saturday, May 10, 1997, at a hospital in Topeka. She was born May 7, 1911, in Willard, the daughter of Arthur P. and Ethel Miller Rogers, and was graduated from Rossville High School. She was a member of the Federated Church in Dover where she taught Sunday school 35 years and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She was a 4-H Club leader 45 years. She was married to Charles C. Todd Jan. 4, 1933, in Dover. He died Dec. 17, 1992. A daughter, Elnora Todd, died in infancy. Another daughter, Zelma Rathje, died in August 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Ann Briant, Auburn; five sons, Chester Todd, David Todd and Floyd Todd, all in Maple Hill, Arthur Todd, Auburn, and Philip Todd, Manhattan; two sisters, Marjorie Woofter, Maple Hill, and Winifred Smith, Topeka; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Todd donated her body to the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City for research. Inurnment will be in Dover Cemetery. | 10306 |  | Obituary- Tolbert, James 1 James I. Tolbert Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairlawn Heights Wesleyan Church for James I. “Jim” Tolbert, 47, Topeka. He was killed Saturday, May 9, 1987, when the small, single-engine plane he was a passenger in crashed in a field about 3 1/2 miles northeast of Delia. From 1957 to 1965, Mr. Tolbert worked in and managed Brownie’s Service Station in Topeka and from 1965 to 1967 he was a salesman for the W.L. High Insurance Agency. From 1967 to 1969 Mr. Tolbert was a policy examiner for the State of Kansas Insurance Department and from 1969 to 1978 he was a buyer for the State Division of Purchases. He was the Director of Purchases in the Division of Purchases from June 1978 to September 1982 and from October 1982 to. November 1983 he was employed again at the W.L. High Insurance Agency. From January 1984 to January 1985 Mr. Tolbert was a manager for the International Bridge and Corp struction/Micronesia, Inc., at Kolonia, Pohnpei, Eastern Caroline Islands. From January 1985 to May 1985 he was a consultant under a personal services contract under the State of Truk, Micronesia, Eastern Caroline Islands. | |
| 10307 |  | Obituary- Tolbert, James 2 He was born Jan. 9, 1940, in Topeka, the son of Arthur I. and Esther G. Murrison Tolbert. He was graduated from Highland Park High School in 1958 and received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Washburn University in 1966. In 1972 he received Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation from the National Society of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters and from 1975 to 1978 he completed five parts of the chartered life underwriter series. In 1981 he received Professional Public Buyers designation from the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing. Mr. Tolbert served in the Army Reserves from 1960 to 1966. He spent six months in active duty at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Reserve time was served with the 109th General hospital unit at Topeka. He also was the non-commissioned officer in charge of the motor pool at the time of his discharge. He was a member of Fairlawn Heights Wesleyan Church, Casualty Property Chartered Underwriters, National Rifle Association and the Hang Gliders Association. In April 1982 he was named the Boss of the Year by the Topeka Chapter off the American Business Women's Association. He was married to Selma E. "Sammy" High Nov. 30, 1962, in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Robynn Cristi Tolbert, at home; two sons, Eric James Tolbert, Topeka, and Marc Joseph Tolbert, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur I. Tolbert, Topeka; a sister, Lois Gjovig, Overland Park; and a brother, Robert Tolbert, Topeka. Cremation is planned. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Howard Tolle and Veda Lee (Burress) Tolle. He was a computer programmer. Ken is survived by son Dennis Tolle, Topeka, daughters Kim Fordham, St. Marys, KS, and Jodi Jordan, Lawrence, KS, a sister Darlene Mastin, Stafford, KS, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces, a nephew, and many many cousins. At his request Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys will handle his cremation and his remains will be laid to rest near his parents at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Grove, KS. | 10309 |  | Obituary- Tomson, Kenneth Kenneth Tomson Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Davidson-Duff Funeral Home for Kenneth Tomson, 80, 1610 Clay, who died early Thursday at a Topeka hospital where he had been admitted Sunday. He had undergone surgery Monday. He was born July 4,1891, near Elmont, and lived in the Topeka and Elmont communities all his life. Mr. Tomson was a foreman for Menoken Township for many years and was employed 15 years by Martin Tractor Co. before he retired. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was married to Nora Lewis on Feb. 26, 1913. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this year. Survivors, besides his widow, include two sons, Harold Tomson, Imperial Beach, Calif., and Wilbur Tomson, Delia; a daughter, Mrs. Faye Marney, Berryton; 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery. Mr. Tomson will lie in state at the funeral home until service time. | |
| 10310 |  | Obituary- Tomson, Margaret Margaret A. Tomson St. Marys - Margaret A. Tomson, 94, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the St. Marys Manor. She was born January 22, 1920 at St. Marys, one of 13 children of John Richard and Mary Veronica Brunin Dohrman. Mrs. Tomson graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in St. Marys. She had worked at the St. Marys Manor and retired from USD No. 321 as a cook. Mrs. Tomson was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. On August 23, 1942 she was united in marriage to Wilbur John Thomson in St. Marys. He preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1993. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters. Survivors include two sons, Gary (Sandy) Tomson and Lloyd (Patricia) Tomson, all of Rossville; two daughters, Linda Acker, St. Marys, and Carol (Ron) Kincaid, Olsburg; a sister, Delores [sic Dolores] Floersch, Rossville; nine grandchildren, Chris, Craig, Christi, Jill, Crystal, Rodney, Lasey, Tammie and Jessi; 20 great-grandchildren and Maggie the grand-dog. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. Mrs. Tomson will lie in state after 3:00 P.M. Monday May 19, 2014 at the funeral home, where there will be a rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. He was born March 18, 1919, in the Bethel Chapel community northeast of Silver Lake, the son of Kenneth and Nora Lewis Tomson. He was graduated from Silver Lake High School and spent his life in the Rossville and Silver Lake communities. Mr. Tomson was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia, charter member and first president of the Delia Lions Club and a past member of Delia School Board. He was married to Margaret A. Dohrman Aug. 23, 1942, in St. Marys. She survives. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jayme Kincaid in 1985, and J.J. Acker in 1989. Other survivors include two daughters, Linda Acker, St. Marys, and Carol Kincaid, Wamego; two sons, Gary Tomson and Lloyd Tomson, both of Rossville; a sister, Faye Marney, Topeka; a brother, Harold Tomson, Sabetha; and nine grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at St. Marys. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys. He was the son of Kenneth and Nora Lewis Tomson. August 23, 1942, he was married to Margaret A. Dohrman in St. Marys. She survives. Mr. Tomson was a retired farmer. He graduated from Silver Lake High School, and had lived in the Rossville and Silver Lake areas all of his life. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Delia, a charter member and first president of the Delia Lions Club, past member of the Delia School Board. Other survivors include two sons, Gary Tomson and Lloyd Tomson, Rossville; two daughters, Linda Acker, St. Marys, and Carol Kincaid, Wamego; one brother, Harold Tomson, Sabetha; one sister, Faye Marney, Topeka; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jayme Kincaid in 1985 and J.J. Acker in 1989. He will lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday at Verschelden Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday (this evening) at Verschelden's. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 Wednesday morning at the Immaculate Conception Church, St. Marys. | 10314 |  | Obituary- Townsend, Cecil Cecil P. Townsend Cecil P. Townsend, 85, 938 Winfield, died Sunday at a Topeka hospital. He was born Sept. 30, 1897, at Albany, Mo., the son of John and Jane Burkhart Townsend. He moved to Topeka in 1919. He was employed as a watchman for Santa Fe Railway Shops, and retired in 1962. Mr. Townsend was a member of Oakland Christian Church, where he was the sole member to be named deacon emeritus. He was a veteran of World War I and was stationed in France as a member of the 1st Gas Regiment Association. He was a 43-year member of the American Legion Capitol Post No. 1. He married Dolin Darby in Albany, Mo., on Aug. 23, 1919. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Faye Kelsey and Mrs. Greta Kelsey, both of Rossville; and two sons, Herbert Townsend and William A. Townsend, both of Topeka; 10 grand-children and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oakland Christian Church. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Townsend will lie in state until 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Townsend worked for Pacific Bell Telephone for more than 40 years before she retired. She was born Jan. 1, 1921, at Delia, the daughter of Preston and Edna Meyers White. No immediate family members survive. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Townsend Doris White Townsend, 74, South San Francisco, Calif., died Friday, December 22, 1995, at a Carmichael, California hospital. She was born January 1, 1921, in Delia, the daughter of Preston and Edna Meyers White. She grew up in the Delia and Rossville communities, and had lived in California for many years. She worked for the Pacific Bell Telephone Company for over 40 years. She is survived by two cousins, Donald White, Campbell, Calif., and George McAfee, in Georgia; and an uncle, Clark Meyers, Decatur, Ga. Her funeral service was at 2:00 Friday afternoon at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Interment was in the Rossville Cemetery. She lived in Lone Star, Mo., where the family operated a telephone company switchboard in their home. She lived in Topeka since 1919. Mrs. Townsend was a member and hostess of the Oakland Christian Church, a member of Christian Women's Fellowship and the choir. She was married to Cecil P. Townsend Aug. 23, 1919, in Albany, Mo. He died Oct. 31, 1982. Survivors include two daughters, Faye Kelsey and Greta Kelsey, both of Rossville; two sons, Hubert D. Townsend and William A. Townsend, both of Topeka; a sister, Opal C. Townsend, Kansas City, Mo.; and Basil Fry, Las Cruces, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Oakland Christian Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Townsend will lie in state after 5 p.m. today at Parker-Price Mortuary where family and friends will meet from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday. | 10317 |  | Obituary- Townsend, John JOHN A. TOWNSEND John A. Townsend, Clear Lake, Calif., 72, died in Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital on September 18, 1985, following a brief illness. John was the son of the late George L. (Dode) and Sylvia Chilcott Townsend, restaurant owners in Rossville from 1928 to 1940. John was born on a farm in Laclede, March 17, 1913, and moved to Rossville with his parents in 1928. After marrying, John was inducted into the U. S. Air Force in June of 1942, while still residing in Rossville. He was stationed in Casper, Wyo., and later saw service in Iwo Jima and Guam. He was honorably discharged in January of 1946, with the rank of Technical Sergeant. After discharge from the service, John made his home in South San Francisco, Calif., as a carpenter and later as owner/operator of a small bar in Redwood City called the Happy- Go-Lucky. After retirement, he and his wife, Lois, moved to Clear Lake where he had resided since. She survives at the home. Other survivors include two sons by a previous marriage, Barth E. of South San Francisco and Jon A. Townsend; two stepdaughters, Nancy and Rosemary. Death was caused by complications from a recent injury. She was born November 3, 1890, near Jasper, Oklahoma, to Justin and Minnie Chilcott. She came to Kansas when she was 10 years old. She was united in marriage to George L. Townsend on February 10, 1909. To this union were born three children. They lived in this and neighboring communities. In 1928 the Townsends came to Rossville and were in the restaurant business for several years. Mrs. Townsend continued the business after the death of her husband in 1934. In 1947 she went to South San Francisco, Calif., to make her home. Funeral services were held at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, with burial in the family lot at LaClede Cemetery. Miss Patricia Glotzbach sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by Mr. Jesse Stewart at the piano. Rev. Gordon Coldsmith was in charge of the service. Mrs. Townsend is survived by two daughters, Donna of the home; Mrs. Val Shultz of Portland, Oregon, and a son, John, of South San Francisco. Born in Rossville, Kansas on June 14, 1928, Rolland graduated from Rossville High School in 1946. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of nearly 70 years, Ruby (nee Golden). The couple were married June 16, 1949 in Topeka. Rolland served in the US Army during the Korean War, based at Ft Sheridan, IL. Rolland had a 45 1/2-year career at Kansas Power and Light, even¬tually being promoted to General Foreman, retiring in 1992. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Rolland was a lifelong sportsman. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Topeka. He was educated in Rossville Elementary School, Rossville High School, and Central Business College, Kansas City, Kan. He served in the United States Air Force from April 1944 to Dec. 1945. He married Maxine Miller on Aug. 9, 1947. He was engaged in farming in the Rossville community until 1955, worked for the International Harvester Company from 1955 to 1968, and was manager of the warehouse and purchasing agent for the College of the Ozarks from 1968 until his retirement in 1982. He helped organize and was office manager of the Ozark Mountain Hospice for 23 years. He was a member and elder of the William’s Memorial Chapel in Point Lookout, Mo„ Branson Lodge No. 587, A.F. A.M., Pemberio American Legion Post No. 0020, Branson Chapter No. 299, Order of the Eastern Star, Branson-Hollister Lions Club and Gideon’s International. Survivors include three foster children. | 10337 |  | Obituary- Trimble, Marcus M.B. Trimble Marcus Bruce Trimble was born May 13, 1860, near West Liberty, Kentucky, and departed this life January 23, 1937, in Topeka, Kansas. In the year 1882 he was married to Abagail McDaniel. To this union three children were born, Noah, of Silver Lake, Auty of Rossville and one daughter, preceding the parents in death. Mr. Trimble grew to manhood in Kentucky and made that state his home until the spring of 1910, when he with his wife and two sons moved to Kansas and has made his home in the vicinity of Rossville since. Mrs. Trimble preceded him in death in the year 1920. He leaves to mourn his departure two sons, six grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Emma Robison, Mary Adkins and Mrs. Martha Medley all of Lexox [sic Lenox], Kentucky; three brothers, Marion and Nelson of Lenox, Ky., and Wallace of Topeka; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends. Mr. Trimble united with the Baptist church early in life and continued in that faith until the end. The funeral was held at Conwell's funeral home Tuesday afternoon, January 26, at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Eisenhower of the Union Mission church. Music was furnished by a ladies quartet from the church. Pallbearers were Messrs. Bert Heslet, David Davis, Walter Cless, Denny Davis, Sam Cottle and Martin Whearty. Maxine was born May 19, 1919, in Rossville, the daughter of Roy C. and Josephine Rezac Miller. She was a professor of psychology at College of the Ozarks from 1968 to 1982. Maxine attended church at the Williams Memorial Chapel. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Taneyhills Library Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and served with Hospice for 22 years. On August 9, 1947, she married Herbert A. Trimble in Topeka. He survives. A sister, Sharon Miller, preceded her in death. Survivors include three foster children, Bonny Ward, Isolde Hinds, and Jean Grothe; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Her service will be Tuesday (today), at 2 p.m. at the Williams Memorial Chapel at the College of the Ozarks. Burial will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Rossville Cemetery. He was born May 13, 1860, in Morgan County, Kentucky, and came to Kansas in 1900 settling on a farm near Silver Lake. In 1914 he retired and went to Topeka. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hannah Trimble of the home; two sons, James Trimble, Topeka, and Lester Trimble of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Lulu DeHart, Route 2, North Topeka; three sisters and one [ ] living in Kentucky, fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. | 10342 |  | Obituary- Trostle, Isaac d.1925 Isaac Trostle The remains of the late Isaac Trostle, aged 81, who died Sunday, April 12, at the Old Soldiers' home in Leavenworth, were brought to Rossville Wednesday afternoon, April. 15th, for interment in the Rossville cemetery. The deceased was an early day settler of Rossville township. Following the Civil war, in which he served in Company E, First Regular Pennsylvania Infantry, he came to Kansas. He owned and occupied a farm west of Rossville now owned by the Henry Meyer family. He left Rossville about thirty-five years ago and resided for years in Topeka before going to the Soldiers home to spend the remaining years of his life. The body was accompanied to Rossville by members of the Blue Post No. 250, G.A.R. Prayer service at the cemetery was conducted by Rev. G.C. Albin. | |

ISAAC TROSTLE Mary Elizabeth Gutshall Trostle, aged 67 years, 1 month and 8 days, passed away at the family home west of Rossville, Kansas, Sunday, August 11 at 10 a. m., after an illness of several years. She had been under treatment in Christ hospital, Topeka for fifteen weeks prior to her arrival home the day before her decease. Mrs. Trostle was well-known having been a resident of this community for nearly 40 years. She was born at Blaine, Pa., July 3, 1862. She was married to Isaac Trostle on December 3, 1889 and in the spring of 1890 they came to Rossville, where they had lived since. To this union four children were born, all of whom, with the husband survive to mourn her departure—David Leroy Trostle, at home; Mrs. Edith M. Potter, Siloam Springs, Ark.; Mrs. Emma R. Searcy, Belvue, Kansas; Mrs. Laura E. Feyh, Des Moines, Ia. There are also two brothers, John P. Gutshall, Rossville; Silas W. Gutshall Blaine, Pa.; and two sisters, Ella D. Gutshall and Ida M. Irwin of Blaine Pa.; eleven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Rossville, Kan., in which the funeral service was held conducted by the Rev. G. G. Horne. The body was interred in the Rossville cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs. Harvey James, Ira Hopkins, John Kesler, Gus Kassebaum, John Reid and A. B. Jamieson. On Wednesday morning at 6 o'clock, at her residence 3 1/2 miles west of Rossville, Mrs. Sarah Trostle, wife of Isaac Trostle, aged 42 years 11 months 6 days. Mrs. Trostle so well known in this neighborhood, was born in Jackson township, Perry county, Penn. She came to Rossville five years ago next March, where she has since resided. For the past year she has been in poor health, and last Spring took a trip to Colorado with no beneficial results, she returned about a month ago, since which she has been confined to her bed until death. The funeral was largely attended on Thursday afternoon, at the church. Rev. N.S. Dickey pastor, of the Presbyterian church, of which the deceased was a member, preach the sermon. She was born April 23, 1906, at Linwood in Leavenworth County. She formerly lived at Rossville, St. Marys, and Topeka. Her husband, Roy Trostle, died in 1959. | 10347 |  | Obituary- Trotter, Sherman Sherman Trotter Dead Sherman Trotter, aged 50, died at his home, 213 East Curtis street, Topeka, Saturday morning. The funeral was held Tuesday from the Stonestreet Chapel. The deceased was a colored man who for many years was a successful blacksmith in the Menoken neighborhood. Many of the people of Rossville who recall the famous old ball team of 25 of 30 years ago, will remember the deceased as the catcher on the Menoken team which was a worthy rival of the local team. | 10348 |  | Obituary- Troudner, Emma Deaths and Funerals Mrs. Troudner Mrs. Emma R. Troudner, 78, widow of the late George A. Troudner died at the home of her son Clarence L. Troudner, near Wakarusa, Sunday night. Mrs. Troudner and her husband settled on a farm 5 miles southwest of Wakarusa known as Troudner Heights, nearly 50 years ago. Mr. Troudner was one of the organizers of the Alliance Co-Operative Insurance Co. of Topeka and was a director until his death January 2, 1923. Her son Clarence L. Troudner who succeeded his father on the board of directors, still is a member of the board. Mrs. Troudner was a member of the Women's Relief Corps and the Eastern Star. She also is survived by a granddaughter, Miss Helen Troudner, employee of the Morris Plan bank of Topeka. Funeral services were at the home of her son at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in the Wakarusa cemetery. Mrs. Troudner was well known in Rossville through numerous visits to her friends Mrs. Matilda Hartzell and Mrs. Chettie Howard, whom she had known since the early days. She taught school here in 1874 and 1875 when the late W.G. Gilbert taught here. Her maiden name was Emma Johnson. She was born Aug. 19, 1905, in Oklahoma Territory, the daughter of John and Audrey Henderson Brookshire. She lived in Nemaha County before she moved to Silver Lake 25 years ago. Mrs. Troxel was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Topeka. She was married to Delbert A. Troxel Feb. 21, 1923, at Holton. He died Aug. 12, 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Opal M. Dultmeier, Silver Lake; two sons, Floyd R. Troxel, Circleville, and Dale A. Troxel, Rossville; two sisters, Dorothy Fund and Bertha Richards, both of Topeka; two brothers, Willard Ruse, Chelan, Wash., and Raymond Ruse, Stull; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Trubey and her husband farmed in the Rossville community. She was born Nov. 15, 1906, in Oklahoma Territory, the daughter of Charles Edwin and Harriet Troutman Strahan. She grew up in McPherson, and after she was married she lived in Lindsborg until 1932, when she moved to Rossville. Mrs. Trubey was a member of the Christian Church in Rossville. She was married to Walter Trubey on June 14, 1927, in Salina. He died July 24, 1966. Survivors include four daughters, Betty Escritt, Proctor, Mont., Evelyn Ratliff, Livonia, Mich., Rosella Feltner, Maple Hill, and Marilyn Trubey, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Christian Church in Rossville. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Trubey will lie in state after 4 p.m. today at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys and an hour before service time Saturday at the church.
