| 7001 |  | Obituary- Kling, Kenneth 2 Kenneth Melvin Kling Kenneth Melvin Kling, 81, of St. Marys, passed away May 14, 2014, at St. Marys Manor. He was born April 11, 1933, at Wetmore, the youngest of 11 children of Herbert C. and Beryl Williams Kling. Kenny graduated from Wetmore High School in 1951. Mr. Kling worked at Morrell’s Packing Plant until the plant closed due to the July 14, 1951, flood. He worked with Kling Family Construction Company doing bricklaying, plastering and concrete work until entering the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict in 1952. After four years of service, he returned to the family business until he attended the Kansas School of Barbering in Wichita in 1957. Upon completion of barber school, he was employed as a barber at Dale’s Barber Shop in Holton from 1957 to 1959. He then worked at First National Bank Barber Shop in Topeka until purchasing his own business, Kenny’s Barber Shop, in June 1961 at St. Marys. After being a barber for over 50 years he retired in 2006. He was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church, Aubert-Walls Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1796 in St. Marys, Jimmie Lillard Post 31 of the American Legion in Rossville and Lake Lodge 50 AF/AM, Silver Lake. He served in the Army National Guard. Kenny was preceded in death by five brothers, Clifford, Clinton, Ernest Lee, Barney and Delmas Kling, four sisters, Inez Larson, Madeline Wolfe, LaVerne Bell and Mary Helen Musick; a stepson, Rodney Steele; and a great-granddaughter, Callie Kling. He was united in marriage to Gladys Bolin in 1963; they divorced. He married Charlotte Decker Steele on Oct. 9., 1983, in Rossville. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his children, Charles Austin Kling and Lou Ann Kling; stepchildren, Pamela Del Castillo and Russell Steele; a sister, Delores Schlodder of Hiawatha; five grandchildren, Steven and Douglas Kling, Brandon and Layla Kling and Kendale Jeanneret; nine step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were May 19 at St. Marys United Methodist Church. Interment with Masonic and military services followed at the Valley View Cemetery, St. Marys. | 7002 |  | Obituary- Klingman, Evelyn Evelyn G. Klingman Evelyn G. Klingman, 89, Topeka, died Tuesday, December 5, 1995, at a Topeka retirement home. She was born October 4,1906, in Rossville, the daughter of Samuel Louis and Nellie Mae Trahoon Martin. She had lived in Topeka since 1943. Mrs. Klingman was a home-maker and had worked in the family store. She did volunteer work. She graduated from Rossville High School. She was a former member of the Presbyterian Church in Junction City. She was a 66-year member of Melita Chapter #116, Order of the Eastern Star, at Junction City. She married Mark L. Klingman March 1,1927, in Topeka. He died in October 1960. Surviving here are six cousins and three nephews. The family received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Hope Chapel. Her funeral service was at 1:00 Friday at the chapel. A graveside service was held at 3:30 at Highland Cemetery, Junction City. | 7003 |  | Obituary- Knudsen, Donald Donald Wilbur Knudsen Donald Wilbur Knudsen of Topeka passed away April 25, 2012. He was born Nov. 11, 1928, the son of David and Helen (Henderickson) Knudsen. After serving in the Army, Donald worked as a carpenter at Whelan’s in Topeka for 30 years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rose E. Knudsen, and sister, Joyce Gray. His pastimes included hunting, fishing, and metal detecting. He was a silversmith and formally taught silversmith classes at Rice Community Center. Mr. Knudsen is survived by his children, Rick Knudsen and wife Lori of Silver Lake, Madalyn Knudsen and John Schulz of Eudora, Jerri Childs and husband Bill of Silver Lake; a brother, Gene Knudsen and wife Connie of Russell; grandchil-dren Derek Ogan, Emily Ogan, Andrea Norris, Katie Martens, Andy Knudsen, Zach Knudsen and Matthew Knudsen; and great-grandchildren, Paxton Willett and Ava Martens. Visitation was set for 10 to noon April 28 at Davidson Funeral Home. | 7004 |  | Obituary- Koch, Dorothy Dorothy Dohrman Koch Passes Away Dorothy Louise Dohrman Koch, Newton, gained her eternal reward on Thursday (Aug. 15, 2019). Dorothy was born Feb. 23, 1941, in her grandmother's bedroom in Delia. Though she was an only child, she never saw herself that way and, instead, liked to think she was blessed to be "everyone's child." She attended Catholic schools her entire life and it would be upon that foundation that she would build her life. On Dec. 31, 1961, Dorothy and Vern were married at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Marys and began their life together, where they were blessed with almost 58 years of marriage. Her family was her greatest joy and a source of immense pride. From an early age, she taught her four daughters the value of hard work and to believe that they could do anything they wanted if they simply put their mind to it. She and Vern owned and operated Newton Livestock, where they bought hogs for 40 years. She was also a partner and clerk for Auction Specialists in Newton and thoroughly enjoyed the thousands of people she met along the way, considering each one a friend. Dorothy was the woman behind the man, supporting Vern in all of his endeavors. She was her grandchildren's biggest cheerleader and supporter, attending every activity or event they were ever involved in. Dorothy was a world-class pie maker, wedding cake baker, sugar Easter egg maker and caterer extraordinaire, feeding as many as 1,000 people in one meal. She was a perpetual student and traveled the world. She boasted being a skilled weighmaster, daily Mass attendee and famous radio personality, giving the daily hog markets for more than 25 years. She and Vern had faithfully given one hour each week to the Perpetual Adoration since its inception in 1990. She was a charter member of the Divine Mercy Prayer Group, church lector, Eucharistic minister, birdwatcher, avid reader, Harvey County 4-H supporter, Sunday school teacher, dominoes enthusiast, Girl Scout leader, card shark, hoarder of rosaries and other religious relics, trailblazer for medical advancements and scientific research, 22-year cancer survivor and a call-it-like-she-sees-it-straight-shooter who, as surrogate mother to the masses, single-handedly taught more kids to drive hogs and stick-shift - all in the same summer. She opened her home to anyone and everyone, whether they were Labo Exchange students, kids needing summer jobs or just someone down on their luck. She had a gracious heart and loved people. She had a fiery spirit, a quick wit and was a strong and brave soul showing immense courage, grace and conviction. She loved her family and she loved Jesus. Her devotion and faith were an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. Those lucky enough to be loved by her in this life will miss her loyalty, laughter, glass-half-full attitude, fighting spirit, unending friendship and unconditional love. She will be deeply mourned and eternally loved but, most of all, she will be celebrated. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Vern; her four daughters: Rae Niles (Doug) of Sedgwick, Dana Knott (Terry) of Hesston, Joy Gehrer (Kory) of Zimmerdale and Jana McKinney (Kyle Headrick) of Zimmerdale; as well as her beloved grandchildren: Abby and Mark Walker, Megan and Aaron Austin, Andy and Donna Niles, Morgan and Nathan Simmons, Garrett and Laura McKinney, Chance and Tayler Gehrer, Madi Gehrer; Wyatt McKinney, Ellie McKinney and Kyle Rutschman; great-grandchildren: Madden, Sam; Winston, Abel, Kade, Lin, Logan, Lance, twins Coleman and Peyton, Elliott and baby boy Gehrer; and stepbrothers, Gary Burgett, Terry Burgett and Greg Burgett. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raphael J. Dohrman and Helen L. Dohrman Burgett; and son-in-law, Lance McKinney. Family was present for visitation from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 18, 2019), with recitation of the rosary immediately following at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Newton. He was born February 2, 1934 in Auburn, Kansas, the son of Alfred C. and Rose (Kovar) Koci. He was a graduate of Delia High School and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was employed by Sears in Topeka for 8 years and worked for Kansas Gas Service for 25 years, retiring in 1992. He was a former member of Northland Christian Church and a current member of Topeka Bible Church. A life time member of Post No. 400 American Legion and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 555. Clyde married Donna L. Tolles March 25, 1960 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on May 2, 1988. He was married to Sally A. Calamunce from 1993 to 2003. They remained friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard, and Irvin, and a sister, Gladys Smith. Survivors include a daughter, Deana Gregg (Frank) of Topeka; two sisters, Viola Layman of Topeka and Nina Wehner of Eudora, KS; two grandchildren, Jared Gregg and Cara Gregg both of Topeka; his close friend, Darlene Dorr of Topeka. She was born August 20, 1896, in the Rossville community. She lived in the Grove and Silver Lake communities before she moved to Topeka in 1944. Mrs. Koci was a member of the auxiliary of the Eagles Lodge and Senior Citizens Group No. 6. She was a member of the Senior Citizens rhythm band and had completed more than 1,000 volunteer hours with the band at the Topeka VA Hospital and at rest homes in Topeka. She was married to James F. Koci on June 21, 1915. He died May 21, 1962. A son, Frank J. Koci, died September 24, 1975. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lillian H. Wiant, Silver Lake, Mrs. Irene J. Neugebauer, Lawrence, and Mrs. Grace D. Laurenti, Topeka; a brother, Frank Dolezilek, Rossville; three sisters, Mrs. Marie Matyak, Delia, and Mrs. Anna Strimple and Mrs. Lydia Strimple, both of Rossville; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Davidson-Duff Funeral Home. Burial will be in Czech Moravian Cemetery north of Rossville. He was born May 8, 1901, near Au¬burn, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Stach Koci. Mr. Koci farmed until 1949, then worked for Shawnee County Highway Department until he retired in 1966. He was a member of St. Paul’s Luth¬eran Church and Senior Citizens Bowl¬ing League at Gage North bowling alley. He married Pauline Badura Sept. 27, 1927, at Rossville. She died March 26, 1955. He later married Viola D. Schlodder Dec. 1, 1956, at Topeka. She sur¬vives. Other survivors include one daugh¬ter, Mrs. Agonia Boydston, Topeka; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Helen Holt. Mr. Koci farm¬ed in the Auburn community until he retired in 1970, when he moved to Topeka. He lived in Shawnee County his entire life. He was born Ju¬ly 14, 1898, near Auburn, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Stach Koci. Mr. Koci attended the Twinville Congregational Church west of Au¬burn at an early age. He was a member of the Prairie Grange No. 1429. He was married to Bessie G. Fin¬ley on April 2, 1931, at Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include: a daugh¬ter, Mrs. Imogene R. Baker, Flag¬staff, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Hromada and Mrs. Alice Bayless, both of Topeka; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Parker-Price Mortuary. Buri¬al will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Kolbaba was born in Vysoke Myto, Czechoslovakia June 24, 1880. He was educated in violin in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He was married to Miss Emily Coufal in 1903 and the couple sailed for the United States on Christmas 1905 locating in Chicago, Illinois, where he opened a violin studio and taught there until 1908. For ten years he taught music at Washburn College and did private teaching. He also held other teaching positions at Howard Payne College, Brownwood, Texas; Baylor College for Women in Belton, Texas; New Mexico Agricultural Mechanical College, Las Curses, New Mexico; and New Mexico State Teachers College, Silver City, New Mexico. A former Topekan, Mr. Kolbaba made his home the last 27 years in Prague, Nebraska, where he taught music and held the position of village clerk. His first wife preceded him in death. | 7035 |  | Obituary- Kolbek, Raymond Raymond Kolbek (April 6, 1936 - February 2, 2015) Raymond L. Kolbek, 78, of Burlington, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015, at Life Care Center. Ray was born April 6, 1936, at Hoyt, Kansas, the son of John F. and Mattie M. (Viles) Kolbek. He grew up at Meriden and attended school there. In 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served in Korea and Japan. After his honorable discharge in 1956, he served eight years in the Army Reserve. He moved to Chicago and Kansas City, before settling in Topeka, where he worked for thirteen years as a warehouse operations supervisor at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka. On March 18, 1974, he was married to Elizabeth J. “Betty” Brown at Kansas City, Kansas, and the following year, in 1975, they moved to Dallas, Texas. Ray worked in the Dallas area as a warehouse operations manager for Toshiba until it closed, and then at Canon USA until his retirement in 2001. In 2006, Ray and Betty moved to Burlington to be nearer to family. Ray was an active member and officer of American Legion Post No. 38 in Burlington, and had been a member and past post commander of VFW in Topeka. His hobbies included woodworking and carving. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Kolbek, a sister, Karen White, and a second sister who died as a child. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; a brother, Harold Kolbek of Holton; three sons, Richard Kolbek of Topeka, David Kolbek of Pratt, and Kristopher Kolbek of Topeka; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial with military' honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Olpe. Jim proudly served his country with the United States Navy from October 1961 through September 1964. In 1967 he married Linda Harris. The couple divorced. He later married Barbara Anne Jones in 1988. They later divorced. Jim was a member of the Local 441 (Pipefitters Union) of Topeka and was a journeyman for 42 years. He was also a member of the American Legion (Blackjack Post), the NRA, and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting, fishing and trapping. He also liked working on old machinery, winemaking and was a skilled handyman. Davis and Josephine Anna (Wells) Davis. She was preceeded in death by her parents, brothers Frances Davis, Joe Davis, Stanley Davis, Ted Elkins, and sister Helen Thompson. Also, her late husband, John Korcal. She spent most of her adult life in the Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Bullhead City, Arizona area working in banking, insurance, and later in hotel hospitality. She was an avid pet lover and always had a dog. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews of which she often voiced many good memories. She lived independently till the first of Dec of 2020 when she had a compression fracture of her back which required surgery. She was unable to go back to her apartment and later acquired pneumonia which she did not recover from. It was her wish not to have a service and to be cremated. There will have a private graveside service at a later date. Her ashes will be buried with her dad at the Rossville Cemetary. | |

Mrs. Kovar was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Z.C.B.J. Moravan Lodge No. 128 more than 50 years, Golden Agers Club and a charter member of the Countryside Club, all at Rossville. She was married to Emial Kovar Aug. 4, 1926, at her parents’ home northeast of Rossville. He survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Davis, Willard; a sister, Mrs. Helen Wickham, Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
