| 7601 |  | Obituary- Marney, Barbara C. 04 Mar 1910, Fri, Page 1 “Grandma” Marney Dead On last Friday the 25th, another of the old pioneers of Rossville passed away, “Grandma” Marney, as she was so kindly and commonly known, who made her home with her daughter, Mrs. C. B. Stum, just north of Rossville, died at the good old age of eighty-four years. Forty-four years of eighty she spent in Rossville—having moved to Rossville from Missouri in 1866. Her funeral was held in the Christian Church, last Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. John H. Lamb of the Presbyterian Church officiating. A large and sympathetic circle of friends gathered to pay their last tribute. The remains were interred in the Rossville cemetery. The obituary follows: Barbara Catherine Horn was born in Kentucky, Oct. 20, 1826. She came to Wisconsin with her parents in 1836; in 1844 she was married to Mr. J. O. Marney. She united with the Baptist Church in 1851. In 1866 she came to Rossville. Here she joined the Christian Chruch. She died at Rossville, Feb. 25, 1910, at a good old age of eighty-four years. It will at once be observed that “Grandma” Marney as she was commonly known, was an old settler of this community. She leaves a wide circle of friends to mourn her loss. Six church, Jonathan, William and James Marney, Mrs. C. B. Stum, of Rossville, Mrs. Rebecca Coffin of Hoyt, and Mrs. Susan Stuvall of Topeka, survive her. The church of which she was a member and the community in which she lived join in extending their deep sympathy to the bereaved ones. | |
| 7602 |  | Obituary- Marney, Charles Pat Marney Charles J. “Pat” Marney, 79, Topeka, died Tuesday, March 12, 2003, at a Topeka hospice house. Mr. Marney had worked for Gregg Tire and Capital Super Service. He was a custodian for Unified School District 345 at Lyman Grade School for 21 years before retiring in December 1988. He served in the Army in a Mule Pack Division during World War II and was awarded the Gilder Badge, a Bronze Service Arrowhead and Good Conduct Medal. He later served in the Air Force and was involved in the Berlin airlift, the Korean War and the Vietnam airlift before retiring in December 1964. He was born Nov. 9, 1923, in Rossville, to George Franklin and Mary Julia Costello Marney. He attended school in Rossville and college in Florida. Mr. Marney was a member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion and served on the District Executive Committee as Shawnee County commander. He was a member of Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was past chief DeGare and Voiture 1148 40 et 8. He was a former member of the Tecumseh Kiwanis Club and the Auburn Lions Club. He was past president of the Shawnee Heights Unified School District 450 Booster Club and a member of Shawnee Heights United Meth-odist Church. He married Patsy Ann Morgan on Sept. 21, 1953, in Las Cruces, N.M. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Carla Eugenie Marney, Topeka; a sister, Mary Browne, j Topeka; and a brother, Tom Marney, Tecumseh. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Burial will be at Half Day Cemetery in Elmont. A Fort Riley Army detail will conduct military honors at the cemetery. | 7603 |  | Obituary- Marney, Dean MARNEY, DEAN M. Dean Marney passed away early on the morning of November 28, 2008, at his son's home in Bonner Springs, KS. He was a devout family man who cherished the times he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. Dean, son of the late Glen and Ina Marney, was born near Rossville, KS, on January 2, 1931, and spent most of his childhood years in Rossville. After attending Rossville High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 17. Dean proudly served his country for 20 years, during which time he met Nancy Johnson, who would become his wife of nearly 49 years. After retiring from the Air Force in 1969, Dean and Nancy moved to Kansas City, MO., where they have resided for the past 40 years. Dean worked at General Motors until his retirement 25 years later. Dean and Nancy spent the last 10 winters in their second home just outside Phoenix, Ariz. Dean spent his retirement years pursuing a variety of interests, including fishing on the Missouri River, prospecting for gold and collecting rocks. He was a member of the Missouri River Boating Association and various prospecting groups. Dean loved cooking and get-togethers with family and friends and was a prolific family photographer. He left behind many memories of his life in pictures and mementoes. Dean is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Bill Marney and his wife Dina of Bonner Springs, KS.; a daughter, Anne Williams and her husband Steve of Lee's Summit, MO.; and six grandchildren. Dean also leaves behind a brother, Ralph Marney and his wife Donna of Topeka, KS. Dean was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Dale, and a brother, Laiten Marney. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS., with burial to follow in the Leavenworth National Veteran's Administration Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS. The family will receive friends at the visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, December 2, 2008, at the funeral home. | 7604 |  | Obituary- Marney, Dudley Dudley D. Marney Dudley D. Marney, 57, a former resident of Rossville, died Thurs. in his home in Casper, Wyoming. He was born April 23, 1896, in Belvue, Kan., and had lived most of his life in the Rossville and Belvue communities. He was a resident of Topeka for five years and had lived in Casper for the past five years. He was a carpenter by trade and a member of the Casper Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Marney of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Fryman of Casper; Mrs. Donice Davis, of Rossville; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Maness of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mrs. Walter Patton of Rossville; three brothers, Glen of Rossville; Howard of Emmett, and Clyde of Centerville, Iowa; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Rossville Christian Church Tuesday, May 5 at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Douglas Donavan. During the 1950s she worked at the Supply Depot at Pauline, and during the 1960s she was employed by Skinner Nursery. She was born April 28, 1907, at Dover, the daughter of Emerson D. and Cora Ann Zook Kirkpatrick. She spent most of her life in Rossville. She was married to Theodore S. Marney Oct. 6, 1924, in Missouri. He died Oct. 11, 1971. A daughter, Stella Mae Marney, died in infancy. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Delores Ward, Delia, and Mrs. Ruth Hause, Hartsburg, Mo.; two sons, Robert W. Marney, Silver Lake, and Kenneth J. Marney, Rossville; a sister, Mrs. Opal Bush, Rossville; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grand-children. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Parker-Price Mortuary. GEORGE MARNEY DEAD FROM HEART ATTACK George Marney of Willard died suddenly Saturday afternoon in the office of Dr. Smith, where he had gone to seek relief from a heavy feel¬ing he had in his chest. He had hardly sat down in a chair before he suffered a fatal heart attack and passed away immediately. Mr. Marney had been working at Willard during the day but felt so ill he came to Rossville for medical aid. The deceased man was 49 years old and had lived practically all his life in the Rossville community. He was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Marney of this city. Mr. Marney is survived by his wife, Mrs. M. Marney; 6 sons Verl, George Howard, Charles and Thomas Marney Willard; two daughters, Mrs. Velma Simmons and Miss Mary Marny, both of Willard; five brothers, Howard Marney, Grove; Dudley Marney, Rossville; Clyde Marney, McFarland; Harold and Glenn Marney, Rossville; and two sisters, Mrs. Walter Patton, Rossville; and Mrs. Melvin Maness, Ponca City, Okla. Funeral services were held at the Rossville Catholic church, Tuesday morning and burial was made in the Rossville cemetery. Marney, 51, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, in the chapel of the Rupp Mortuary in St. Joseph, Mo. The Rev. Donald Bletscher officiated. Interment was at Memorial Park cemetery in St. Joseph. Mr. Marney was born October 9, 1913 at Ross¬ville and lived in the Ross¬ville and Willard commun¬ities all his life until four- teen years ago when he moved to St. Joseph, Mo. He was section foreman at the Rock Island Railroad yards at St. Joseph when he retired three years ago due to failing health. He had worked for the railroad 29 years, starting at Willard. He was a veteran of World War II serving overseas as a Marine for three years. He moved to Topeka three years ago when his health began to fail to be near the Veterans Hospital. He liv¬ed at 3614 West 8th. He died Sunday, July 11, at the Vet¬erans Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alta Marney; a step-daughter, Mrs. Chris¬tine Ziolowski of St. Joseph, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Vel¬ma Lloyd, Willard; one bro¬ther, John Marney, Maysville, Mo.; two half-bro¬thers, Charles and Thom¬as Marney, Topeka; one half-sister, Mrs. Mary Brown, Topeka, and four grandchildren. | 7610 |  | Obituary- Marney, Gladys 1 Mrs. Ben Marney dies in home fire Mrs. Edna Marney, 58, of Rossville died early Wednesday morning from results of a fire that nearly burned her home to the ground. Rossville Fire Department answered the alarm turned in by neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Marney at 2:30 a. m. Wednesday. When firemen arrived at the scene the front portion of the small three room home was in flames. Four hoses were put on the flames and it was not until about 45 minutes later that Mrs. Marney was found, fully clothed, in the bathroom of the home. Earlier, her husband, who fled the flames, said he didn't know where she was. Although the flames were confined to the front two rooms of the home, Mrs. Marney suffered burns about her face, arms and legs. She probably died from smoke and heat. The fire was believed to have started in the front room in the southeast corner and quickly spread to the wall and roof. It is possible a cigarette in a chair in that location could have started the fire. Mrs. Marney may have been trying to fight the fire herself and in leaving the home took the door to the bathroom which is next to the back door. She was pronounced dead on arrival at a Topeka hospital. Mrs. Marney was born in Valencia on October 26, 1902 and had lived in Rossville the past 40 years. She is survived by her husband, Ben B. Marney of Rossville; one son, Staff Sgt. Dean Marney of the U. S. Air Force in England; one daughter, Louise Sebring of Arizona; her father, Bob Alexander of Topeka; two brothers, Edward Alexander of Wichita, and Vernon Alexander of Texas; and five grandchildren. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery with Hurley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. | |

He was born Dec. 4, 1909, in Rossville, the son of James S. and Jenney Fish Marney, and spent most of his life in Rossville. He was a carpenter and had worked in the Santa Fe Railway shops in Argentine before he retired. He was baptized at the Christian Church in Rossville. He was a member of Lake Lodge No. 50, AF&AM, in Silver Lake. He was married to Ina Marian Nitzsche March 31, 1930, in Alma. She died Feb. 18, 1984. A granddaughter, Vickie Lyn Marney Gates, died in 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Dale, Apache Junction, Ariz.; three sons, Dean M. Marney, Kansas City, Mo., Laiten G. Marney, Great Falls, Mont., and Ralph Marney, Topeka; 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Christian Church in Rossville. Lake Lodge No. 50, AF&AM, will conduct graveside services at Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Marney had been a carpenter and later worked in the Santa Fe Shops in Argentine before he retired. He had been baptized in the Rossville Christian Church. | 7613 |  | Obituary- Marney, Golda Golda "Faye" Marney Golda "Faye" Marney, 96, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Legends at Capital Ridge. Faye was born December 14, 1922 in Rossville, the daughter of Kenneth and Nora Tomson. She graduated from Rossville High School. She was employed as a clerk with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas for 30 years, retiring in 1988. She was an active member of the Berryton United Method¬ist Church and enjoyed volunteering at Let's Help and I Care. Faye married Oliver Dale "OD" Marney on September 29, 1941 in Lawrence. He died August 12, 1976. Survivors in¬clude sons, Larry (Aurel) Marney, Barry Marney, Terry (Jan) Marney, Jerry (Kathy) Marney, Perry (Donna) Marney, all of Topeka; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Brenda Marney; and brothers, Wilbur and Harold Tomson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Au¬gust 31, 2019 at the Berryton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. | 7614 |  | Obituary- Marney, Harold DEATH CAUSE FOR HAROLD MARNEY, 47, UNKNOWN The body of a missing Richland hunter, lost in the Blue mountains since Friday noon was located on the main trail of Pope canyon about 1 1/2 miles above the settling basin in Oregon late Saturday morning, Sheriff A. A. Shick reported. Shick said the body of Harold Marney, was located by two hunters in the area. The cause of death was not known. Sheriff’s officers and the coroner were enroute to the scene at noon but the trip is fairly long and difficult and no word was expected before late afternoon. Marney, employed by General Electric Co., was the object of one of the most intensive ground and aerial searchers in recent Southeastern Washington history. Sheriff A. A. Shick said Saturday. A member of an elk hunting party of three, he had been missing in the Blue mountains since Friday morning, Shick said. Marney was reported missing Friday evening by his two companions, Russell Rhodes and R. Estronge, also of Richland. They told Shick that he disappeared in the vicinity of Pope Canyon, the entrance of which is located near Kooskookie. Shick said the three men started out Friday morning and separated at what they called the “first forks” planning to meet that evening. When Marney failed to meet them at the appointed spot the two men returned to Walla Walla and notified the sheriff at 6:30 p.m. Shick said the search was started Friday night when two of the Klicker brothers worked the area until midnight without finding any trace of the man. They said there was a light blanket of snow on the ground and they thought they saw tracks although the wind was extremely heavy. Signals from guns failed tract any attention, members search party said. Saturday morning 25 Walla Walla and Richland men headed by deputy Sheriff Andy Shoun combed the mountain areas and a plane piloted by Cliff Lincoln of the Sky Ranch made several flights over the region. Officers said Marney was adequately dressed and was an experienced hunter. He carried all the necessary equipment. They expressed the opinion that he may have suffered a heart attack or was injured in some manner. The above account is from the Richland daily paper. Harold is survived by his wife, Jean and 2 children, Teddie and Lauralee. Also by two sisters, Mrs. Rena Patton of Rossville and Mrs. Ruth Manes, of Ogden, Utah; four brothers, Glen of Rossville; Dudley of Casper, Wyo.; Clyde of Centerville, Iowa; Howard of Delia. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, December 6, in, Richland, Wash.; and he was buried there. He left here four years ago. He was born in September 1917. | |
| 7615 |  | Obituary- Marney, Howard D. CPL. HOWARD D. MARNEY The body of Cpl. Howard David Marney, who was killed on March 7, 1945, on Iwo Jima, will arrive in Topeka Friday morning, and services will be at 2 p. m. Saturday at the Parker Mortuary, with burial in Rossville. Corporal Marney was born in Ness County, September 11, 1917, and moved to Willard from Rossville in 1926, where he was living at the time he entered service. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Velma Lloyd of Topeka and Miss Mary Marney of Rossville; four brothers, John V. of Alta Vista, George S. of Clifton and Thomas and Charles, both of Rossville. HOWARD MARNEY Jr. KILLED Pfc. Howard Marney of Willard son of the late George Marney, was killed in action on Tuesday, March 7, at Iwo Jima. Howard was in the marines and had been wounded two times and received the Purple Heart and went back, into action. Howard got the Jap officer who wounded him the first time and also his gun, which he sent to his cousin Ivan Marney in Rossville. Howard would have been in service four years in September. Two other brothers of Howard, Sgt. Verle Marney in service for three years, is now on his way home from Australia, on a furlough and Cpl. George Marney serving in the marines, is at present at Iwo Jima after three years in the service. George and Howard were fortunate to meet while overseas on a short visit. | |

Friday at the Rossville Presbyterian Church with burial in Rossville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Stanley Davis, James Dick, Raymond Duley, Paul Johnson, Charley Thompson, and Oscar McKenzie. Honorary pallbearers were Ted Pearce, Clayton Ray, Edward Pearce, and Cecil Boyer. Mr. Marney was born October 15, 1893, at Belvue and was a contractor by trade. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Gladys Marney of the home; five daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Fowler of Kansas City, Mrs. Ida Watson of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Mrs. Zelma Trammell of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Audrey Goodale of Kansas City, and Mrs. Marlene Robinson, Miami, Florida; four sons, Jim and Gifford Marney of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Raymond Marney of Dallas, and Howard Marney Jr. of the home; two brothers, Clyde Marney of Trenton, Mo., and Glenn Marney of Rossville; two sisters, Mrs. Rena Patton of Rossville, and Mrs. Ruth Manness of American Fork, Utah; 26 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. | 7617 |  | Obituary- Marney, Ina INA MARIAN MARNEY Services were Tuesday at the Christian Church in Rossville for Mrs. Ina Marian Marney, 73, Rossville, who died Saturday, Feb. 18, 1984, at a Topeka hospital. She was born April 30, 1910, at Hamlin, the daughter of William Nitzsche and Myrtle Ina Moore Nitzsche Diehl. She spent most of her life in Rossville. Mrs. Marney was a member of the Christian Church and Amaryllis Chapter No. 321 of Order of Eastern Star, both at Rossville. She formerly was a Cub Scout den mother at Rossville 10 years. She was married to Glen D. Marney March 31, 1930, at Alma. He survives. Other survivors include three sons, Dean M. Marney, Kansas City, Mo., M.Sgt. Laiten G. Marney, Great Falls, Mont., and Ralph Marney, Topeka; a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Dale, Omaha, Nebr.; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Martinek, Rossville, and Mrs. Alice Bures, Topeka; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Marney who passed away at 5 a.m. Monday after an illness dating back six months with brights disease, was taken to Belvue yesterday after¬noon for interment in the Belvue cemetery. A short service was held at the home yesterday at 1 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Bent¬ley of the Christian church. Jennie L. Fish was born November 9, 1868 in La Grange, Indiana. On December 25, 1884, she was united in marriage to James S. Marney at St. Marys, Kansas to which union nine children were born, eight of whom with the husband survive to mourn her loss. She was a mem¬ber of the Christian church of Rossville, having united with the church February 7, 1908 and had remained a faithful member since. At the time of her death Tuesday July 1, 1919, she was 50 years, 7 months and 22 days old. The surviving members are the husband and eight children Geo. F. Marney, Ida L. Patton, Rossville; Howard V. Wessington Springs, S. Dak.; Dudley L. ; Clyde L.; Harold T., Ruth and Glenn Marney all of Rossville. Mrs. Marney was a loving mother a kind neighbor and greatly re¬spected by her fellow lodge mem-bers of the K. L. of S. lodge of which she was the secretary of the local organization. | |

The G.A.R. post of which he was an old member, had charge of the funeral. Six veterans of the late war attended as pall bearers. Burial was in the Rossville cemetery. Mr. Marney enlisted when he was 19 year old. When the United States entered the world war he was unable to go on account of his age, but he was among the first to take $2,000 in liberty bonds. Ralph also served as the president of the Machinist Union for many years. He was a life-long supporter of the labor unions. Ralph was a man of many hobbies, his latest being knife making. Bob was born June 9, 1930, in Mayetta, Kansas, to James I. “Ivan” Marney, Sr., and Mamie F. Belcher Marney. He grew up in the Rossville area and graduated from Rossville High School in 1948. He went to work for the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Rail Road imme¬diately following graduation and worked there until his retirement June 10, 1991. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Na¬val Reserve on February 23, 1949, and transferred to the United States Marine Corps on January 20, 1951. He was a member of the General Supply Battalion, First Com¬bat Service Group, serving in the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged on January 19, 1954. He married Teresa G. Besta on May 14, 1955, in Rossville, Kansas. They resided in Topeka until 1965, when they moved to Deha. They moved to Holton in 2004, where Bob resided until March of 2015 when he moved to Atria Hearthstone in Topeka. His parents, a sister, Toria Ann Marney, a brother, James I. “Jim” Marney, Jr., and his wife of 52 years preceded Bob in death. He is survived by his three children: Sandy (Scott) Allen and Gary (Karen Lira) Marney, Holton, and Kim (Mark) Davis, Topeka; eight grandchildren: Lannie (Jared Johnson) Thornes, Taylor (RaeAnn Pinkerton) Allen, Joshua (Erica Lembke) Mar¬ney, Torri (Travis Christian) Marney, Heather Marney, Erin (Joe) Miller, Ethan Davis, and Sean (Sydney Chambers) Davis; four great-grandchil¬dren: Peyton Thornes, Fal¬lon, Aubrey and Eliza Miller; one sister, Elzora (Jim “Red”) Homan; one brother, Ben (Letha) Marney; two sisters- in-law, Nancy Besta and Terri Kerwin; three brothers-in-law, Bennie Besta, Bob J. (Susan) Kerwin, and Ron Cowan; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was very active in Li¬ons Club International, where he served as Past District Governor for District 17AW. He was also a member of Jimmy Lillard American Le¬gion Post #31, Masonic Lodge #393, Scottish Rite Valley Lodge, VF.W Post #1367, the Jackson County Fair Board, and Jackson County Zoning Appeals Commission. He was active in Boy Scouts, Little League and Pony League Baseball, girls’ softball, and Jackson County 4-H, in many capacities. He was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton, where he was active in the SEEKERS Sunday School Class and JCMA Christmas Store. Services were on Tuesday, June 16 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment with military honors was on Wednesday, June 17th at the Rossville Cemetery. She was born March 14, 1938, to Winifred L. (Yocum) and Edward B. Besta. She graduated from Delia High School in May of 1955. She married Robert H. "Bob" Marney on May 14, 1955, at the Rossville United Methodist Church, Rossville, Kansas. He survives. They made their home in Delia until 2002 when they moved to Holton. She is also survived by her children: Kim & Mark Davis, Topeka; Gary & Leslie Marney and Sandy & Scott Allen, Holton; and grandchildren Erin (Magette) & Joe Miller, Ethan & Sean Davis, Topeka; Lannie Allen & fiancé Morgan Thomes, Denison; Torri & Heather Marney, Taylor Allen and Andrew Grandon, Holton, and Joshua Marney & Matthew Grandon, Manhattan. Other survivors include her mother and stepfather, Winifred & Clinton Kerwin, Rossville, two brothers: Bennie Besta, Rossville, and Bob (Susan) Kerwin, Ozawkie, two sisters; Mary C (Ron) Cowan, Topeka and Terri Kerwin, Rossville, and a sister-in-law, Nancy Besta, Topeka, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward B. Besta, and one brother, George E. "Eddie" Besta. She was active in the Delia 4-H Club as a project leader, and was a fair superintendent at the Jackson County Fair. She was a member and Past President of the Rossville Lions Club. She was a member and Past President of the Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 American Legion Auxiliary, Rossville. She was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church, and served as an elder and church secretary. She later transferred her membership to the Holton Evangel United Methodist Church. She retired in 1993 after 28 years of service with Hallmark Cards, Topeka. She retired as third shift supervisor of Department E. She was an avid gardener and loved working with flowers. She could make a water lily grow in the desert. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. During her retirement, she enjoyed traveling. The thing she most enjoyed was her grandchildren and the time she spent with them. A Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, January 29, 2007 at Piper Funeral Home, St. Marys. Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at the Rossville Cemetery. He had been admitted to a Topeka hospital Jan. 24, 1971, and underwent surgery the following day. He had cancer. He was born May 26, 1904, at Rossville where he spent his life. He had worked for the Rossville Implement Co. and also for the Shawnee County maintenance department before he retired. He also had been a farmer. He was married to Frances Kirkpatrick Oct. 6, 1924, at Rossville. She survives. A daughter, Stella Mae Marney, died in 1928. Other survivors include two sons, Robert W. Marney and Kenneth J. | 7644 |  | Obituary- Marney, Viola 1 Mrs. Marney Buried Friday The funeral of Mrs. Ivan Marney, whose death occurred Wednesday of last week at Freeman, Mo., was held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Christian church, conducted by the Rev. H.L. Nelson, of Topeka. The body arrived Thursday and was taken to the Chris Lillard home to await the funeral hour. Her death was due to diabetes, her last illness being of only about 24 hours duration. Viola Helen Rice was born on March 11, 1888 at Urbana, Kans. and was 38 years, 7 months and 28 days old at the time of her death. When two years of age she came to Rossville where she spent all but the last two years of her life. In her girlhood she united with the Rossville M.E. church but later in life united with the Christian church at Topeka. On September 27, 1910 she was united in marriage to James Ivan Marney. For the past two years Mrs. Marney had made her home at Freeman, Mo., where she left many friends who had become deeply attached to her as had those she leaves to mourn her in Rossville. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, Security Benefit and on Monday night following her decease would have become a member of the Eastern Star. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, three sisters, Mrs. Rose Doud, of Rossville; Mrs. Lulu Oats, of Warrensburg; Mo., Mrs. Annie O’Mally of Junction City; three brothers, E.M. | 7646 |  | Obituary- Marney, William B. W. B. MARNEY ENDS HIS LIFE WITH A DOSE OF STRYCHNINE William B. Marney, aged 76, a resident of the community for over fifty years, committed suicide last night about 10 o’clock, by swallowing a quantity of strychnine. Dr. Smith was called so soon as Mrs. Marney saw him swallow the drug, but he refused to let the physician and his assistants try to save him, saying he didn’t want to live. Mr. Marney had been in ill health for several years and frequently had despondent periods brooding over his health. The deceased man was a native of Indiana. He was born in Appenouse county, July 13, 1850. Later he moved with his parents to Missouri living until he was about 16 years old near Booneville. From Booneville they moved to Kansas, locating near Topeka for a short time before coming to Rossville which has been his home since. He was married to Ann Stovall March 23, 1884 and nine children were born to this union. Three of the children had preceded their father. The surviving members of his family are the widow and six children – Joe and William of Rossville; Ivan and Ben of Valencia; Mrs. Jennie Lillard of Rossville and Mrs. Myrtle Lillard of Valencia; one brother, Jas. Marney of Willard and two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Stum of Rossville and Mrs. Rebecca Coffin of Mayetta also survive. There are thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Marshall, 67, Topeka physician for many years and president of Marshall's band, died unexpectedly at his home, 315 Topeka, Monday morning. His death occurred shortly after breakfast, when he lay down for a rest. Dr. Marshall had been in failing health since December, but had continued his practice until May 1, Saturday he made his usual trip to the office of the American Home Life Insurance company, of which he was medical director. He was born in Topeka February 25, 1876, the son of the late John Brummell Marshall and Hilda Marshall, and had spent his entire life in Topeka. He received his education in Topeka schools and Washburn university where he was a football letter-man. He was a graduate of the Oklahoma university, and the school of pharmacy at Kansas university. For many years he had been a member of Marshall's band, which his father organized in 1887. He also served as director of the band several times. He was director and hospital surgeon for the Rock Island railroad and was also member of the executive committee of Stormont hospital. He was affiliated with many civic and Masonic organizations as well as a number of medical societies. He was past president of the International Co-operative club, and past president of the Topeka Co-operative club; was a member of the Shawnee county, the Kansas and Golden Belt Medical societies; the American Medical association, and the American Association of Railway Surgeons. He was a past master of Golden Rule lodge No. 90, A.F. & A.M.; past knight commander of Toltec Rite; was a member of York Rite and Scottish Rite bodies; the Arab Shrine; Beulah chapter No. 34, O.E.S., and Brotherhood of Elks. Surviving are a son, Dr. Brummell M. Marshall, Topeka; a granddaughter, Mary Letha Marshall, Topeka, and two nieces, Mrs. Julia H. Lewis, Topeka, and Mrs. Jean B. Bergurman, Green Castle, Ind. His brother, John B. Marshall, died in 1932. | |

Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Rose Frost on October 12,1979 and a granddaughter, Angela J. Persons on December 16,1999. On October 3, 1950 he was united in marriage to Victoria Ann Rezac. She survives of the home. | 7650 |  | Obituary- Marshall, Stanley Stanley Lee Marshall Stanley Lee Marshall, 64, El Dorado, KS, died on January 5, 2021 at his home with hospice care. Stanley was born Aug. 23, 1956 in Wamego, KS to Laurence and Victoria Ann (Rezac) Marshall. He attended Emmett Grade School and then St. Marys High. He attended Vo-Tech in Topeka and later joined the Apprenticeship Program for Boilermakers out of local 83, and later worked as a boilermaker at Jeffrey Energy Center in St. Marys from 1978 to 1982. From 1982 to 2000, Stan worked as a boiler inspector for the State of Kansas and later American States Insurance Company. In 2000, he opened PrairieTech Computer Sales and Repair in El Dorado, where he was the sole proprietor until his illness in 2017. Stan had a passion for flying airplanes and received his license to fly in 2005, and was a member of the El Dorado United Methodist Church. He married Doris "Dee" J. Freeby, who survives him, on July 17, 1976 at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Marys, KS. They have four children, Jessica (Justin Miller) of LaJunta, CO; Amy (Steve Dennis) of Wichita, KS; Rebecca (Kevin Koenke) of Colorado Springs, CO; and James (Brandi) Marshall. Survivors also include 12 grandchildren; his sister, Pam Hays of Rossville, KS; and brother, Larry Marshall of Emmett, KS. A service is planned at the United Methodist Church and burial will take place at Saint Clere Cemetery, Emmett, KS, dates and times pending.
