| Obituary- Medley, William WILLIAM J. MEDLEY
Services for William P. Medley, 26, of Santa Monica, Calif., son of Mrs. Ed Stein of 222 Harrison, Topeka, who was killed Saturday in a motor-car accident near Bakersfield, Calif., were held in Santa Monica, Wednesday.
Mr. Medley’s brother Harry Medley of Topeka and his uncle, Jesse Ray, of Denison, left Sunday to attend the services.
He was born near Silver Lake November 28, 1923, and went to Topeka with his parents in 1930. He enlisted in the Navy in December, 1940. and was discharged in November, 1946.
Other survivors include his wife, June Medley and two sons, Rodney Lee, 2, and Gary Marvin, 4, of the home; another brother, Robert H. Medley of Boise, Idaho; and three sisters, Mrs. Ruby Tuffly of Yuma, Arizona, and Mrs. June Cochran and Mrs. Wanita Mellazzo, of Phoenix, [missing rest]

Kathleen “Jean” Mee, 89, of Goodwell, OK, formerly of Rossville, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014.
Survivors include two children, James W. Mee, Tempe, AZ and Jane Jackson, Goodwell, OK; five grandchildren, Sherri Elsasser, Charles Mee, Andrew Mee, Sarah Bergin and Samantha Piepergerdes; seven great-grandchildren, Leo and Aaron Elsasser, Evan, Tyler and Riley Bergin and Babel and Jasper Piepergerdes; a sister, Wilma “Billie” Dolezilek, Rossville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean was cremated. No services are planned. Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka, KS is assisting the family. Funeral services for Merrel F. Meek, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Meek, of Maple Hill, were at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Meek, near Maple Hill. Besides his parents and his paternal grandparents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ashton of Wamego. Burial was in the Wamego cemetery. |

| Obituary- Meek, Perry Perry Meek Buried Yesterday
Perry Meek died Tuesday morning after a short illness his death resulting from acute bronchitis and myocardial degeneration. Mr. Meek has not been in the best of health for several years. Mr. Meeks [sic] came to this vicinity in the early days of the township's history and with the exception of a number of years spent in Pottawatomie county, Okla., had continued his residence here.
Perry Meek was born in Andrew county, Mo., April 18, 1850 and was aged 68 years, 6 months and 2 days at the time of his decease. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary J. Wykert, February 13, 1868 at to this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters, of whom one son and the daughters have preceded him to the grave. The surviving members of his family are the widow and two sons, Russell and Cyrus Meek, and five sisters.
The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the cemetery conducted by the Rev. J.F. Shafer, of the Rossville M.E. church, and interment made in the Olive Branch cemetery.

| Obituary- Meenen, Donald Donald Wayne Meenen was born in Clay Center, Kansas on July 15, 1929 to Fritz and Emma Belle (Drake) Meenen. He attended Sherwood country school through the eighth grade, transferring to public school where he graduated from Clay Center High School in 1947. He graduated from Kansas State University, in 1951 with a degree in agriculture. While in high school, he was a member of the CCHS Stardusters Jazz Band. At KSU, he was member of the KSU marching band and the Block and Bridle Club. He married Joann Darlene Heusted on August 13, 1950 who survives of the home. After his KSU graduation, he and Joann moved to Clifton and made their home on the KA Drake family farm near Clifton. To this union were born five children who survive; twin daughters, Nancy (Dr.Terry) Moser, and Linda (Randy) Brown of Topeka; three sons, Doug (Karen), Topeka, Michael (Sarah), Americus, and Patrick (Micki), Hiawatha. They became foster parents to Albert (Julia) West and Bill West (Charlotte Mercer) in 1972, who also survive and remain part of the family. Other survivors include a sister, Dora Morris of Wamego, and a brother Edward Meenen of Clay Center. Grandchildren, Regina Hoerner Muncheberg (Jens); Tracy Hoerner Rose (Brad); Bryon Hoerner (Caitlin); Heather Brown Cunningham (Michael); Jeremy Brown (Errin); Kristi Brown Harrell (Travis); Matthew and Michael Meenen (Madison); Sarah Meenen; Mark Meenen (Miranda); Rachel Meenen; Ashli Meenen, Kyle (Shelby), and Shane (Emily) Meenen; 18 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fritz Henry and Emma Belle Drake Meenen, and his brother in law, Col. Raymond E Morris. Don actively participated in the family farming until health issues led to his retirement in 1970. He was then employed in the Agronomy and Hardware Dept at Farmer's Union Cooperative in Clay Center and then served as General Manager of Concordia Coop. After leaving the family farm in 1986 and a short stint at Osborne, KS, they returned to Greenleaf in 1987 where he continued employment for Coop. He retired from the Coop in 1994. For the next 10 years, he was employed providing public transportation for Twin Valley in Greenleaf. While living in Greenleaf, he served on the Tree Board. He and Joann provided transportation for Kansas Specialty Dog Service in Washington, bringing clients to and from the Kansas City airport. In 2010, they moved to Topeka where they resided alongside their daughter Linda's family. After this move, Don actively participated in providing transportation and supervision of his grandchildren, taking them to their activities. He was a proud supporter of his grandchildren attending ballgames, activities and school programs faithfully until his health prevented it. From childhood, his faith became the foundation for how he lived his life. No matter where he lived, Don was active in his church community, and exhibited a strong, quiet faith to family and friends. His giving continued in his death as he donated his body to Science Care. In lieu of flowers, Don requested memorials to Avalon Hospice, Rossville Methodist Church, or Kansas Specialty Dog Service and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 25th 10:30 a.m. at the Rossville Methodist church. Inurnment of his ashes will be in the family plot at Riverdale Cemetery, south of Clifton at a later date.

Joann Darlene Heusted Meenen
Joann Darlene Heusted Meenen was born on June 28, 1929 in Clay Center, Kansas to Warren V. and Bertha McNeal Heusted. She passed away on February 4, 2022 at her home in Topeka, Kansas where she lived with her daughter, Linda Brown.
She attended schools in Clay Center and graduated with the honor of co-valedictorian of her class at Clay County Community High School in 1947. Following graduation, she completed business courses at Brown Mackie Business in Topeka. She then worked in Topeka at Seltsam-Hanni Insurance Co. until her marriage. High school sweethearts, she and Donald Wayne Meenen were married on August 13, 1950 in Clay Center, Kansas. Their first year of marriage was spent in Manhattan while Don completed his senior year at Kansas State University. During that year she worked at a bank in Manhattan. After Don’s graduation they settled on his grandfather’s farm north of Clifton (the Kernal Drake farm) where she learned and adapted to farm life and being a farmer’s wife. Clifton was their home until 1986, when they moved to Osbourne, Kansas before returning to North Central Ks and living in Greenleaf, Ks for 23 years. In 2010, she and Don moved to Topeka to live with daughter, Linda and her family.
To this union were born five children who survive: twin daughters, Nancy (Terry) Moser and Linda Brown, of Topeka; three sons, Doug (Karen), Topeka; Mike (Sarah), Linn; and Pat(Micki) Meenen, of Hiawatha. In 1972 they became foster parents to Albert (Julia) West, Topeka who survives and Bill (Charlotte) West, who preceded her in death in 2021. | Obituary- Meenen, Joann 2 Her husband of nearly 69 years, Donald Wayne Meenen preceded her in death in 2019. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Warren V. and Bertha McNeal Heusted; brother, Warren V. Heusted, Jr; brother-in-law, Col. Raymond E. Morris; son-in-law, Randy Brown; foster son, Bill West.
She loved cooking and baking for her family. “Can Grandma bring her rolls?” was a frequent comment from her grandchildren. Planting and tending to a garden and flower beds also brought her great joy. Family gatherings were opportunities to prepare and share a feast lovingly prepared. After moving to Topeka, she remained active caring for the combined household which included an active four year old great grandson, Kaden. Attending grandchildren activities was a favorite pastime. She was very proud and supportive of all her children and their families.
She was a regular contributor to the community newspaper, as she enjoyed writing and recording the family events as they occurred. Her birthday cards always included a special personal written message. Many days when she could no longer do the cooking and baking, she could be found in her chair reading her Kindle book, watching Hallmark movies and Royals baseball in season, and don’t forget Wheel of Fortune.
She was baptized on Easter Sunday of 1946 at First Methodist Church in Clay Center. After moving to Clifton, she was actively involved in her church, Clifton Presbyterian Church teaching Sunday School, participating with Don in the Mariner’s group, and singing in the choir. She was a member of the Lutheran church in Greenleaf serving on the altar committee and assisting with fellowship activities. After moving to Topeka, she became of member of the Rossville Methodist Church. She could be counted on to always have some “goodies” to share.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Avalon Hospice, Visiting Angels or Rossville Methodist Church in care of Piper Funeral Home.
Services will be held at Rossville Methodist Church on Saturday, February 12th at 2:00 p.m. Masks will be required at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in Riverdale Cemetery at Clifton, Kansas. |

| Obituary- Melenson, Nannie MRS. NANNIE MELENSON
Nannie C. Roberson was born in Yocum, Kentucky, March 12, 1894. She died at her home in Rossville, Tuesday morning, December 31st, 1935, at the age of 41 years, 9 months and 18 days.
She came to Kansas in 1912 and lived in and near Holton. She was married to Joe I. Melenson on November 4, 1914. To this union two daughters were born. For the last few years she has lived in and around Rossville.
She united with the First Baptist church of Holton in 1919, and through the years kept a bright faith in her Heavenly Father. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge also at Holton.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, three sisters and one brother. Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Joe I. Melenson, and two daughters, Minona and Josephine, of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Dyer, Mayetta, Mrs. Arra Adams, Soldier and Mrs. Edna Reed, Maple Hill; two brothers, Floyd Roberson, North Topeka, and John Roberson, of Soldier; also a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Melenson was a kind and loving wife and mother, and a friend to everyone who knew her.
She is gone, but not forgotten
Ne’er shall her memory fade.
Sweet thoughts shall ever linger
Round the place where she is laid.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Rossville Thursday afternoon, Jan 2, conducted by Rev. Horton. Music was furnished by a quartette of ladies, Mrs. Minnie Navarre, Viola Strimple, Lorene Parr and Mrs. Horton. The pall bearers were Leonard Bolin, W. E. Ellis, Dave Lambert, Fred Mason, M. L. Whearty, J. W. Cless.
Burial was in the Walnut Hill cemetery.

His parents and brother, Dean, preceded him in death. He graduated from Seaman High School and Washburn University. Duane served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He taught and coached at Meriden High School, Emmett High School, Robinson High School, Rossville High School, Northern Hills Jr. High School, and Seaman High School. Blackie coached football, girls’ basketball, and baseball. The Kansas Coaches Association recognized him for winning over 400 basketball games. He retired in 1988 after 38 years. He continued to substitute teach for another 22 years. Duane was a member of the KNEA, Moose Lodge # 555, and Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion. He was married to Julia G. Wells on Oct. 11,1952, at Topeka. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2002. Surviving are his children: Diane L. Melvin of Austin, TX, Donna D. Kirkwood (Chris) of Topeka, Douglas G. Melvin (Debbie) of Denton, and Duane "Scott” Melvin of Noblesville, IN; 4 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Duane Gene ‘Blackie’ Melvin
Duane Gene “Blackie” Melvin, 86, Topeka, died Jan. 26, 2013, at his home. He was born May 4, 1926, at Topeka, the son of Glen C. and Manila M. (Stock) Melvin. His parents and brother, Dean, preceded him in death.
He graduated from Seaman High School and Washburn University. Duane served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Blackie played professional baseball from 1947 to 1950 and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians and played against Mickey Mantle. He had also played for the Topeka Owls. Blackie was voted one of the Top 100 Athletes in Topeka History by the Topeka Capital-Journal.
He taught and coached at Meriden High School, Emmett High School, Robinson High School, Rossville High School, Northern Hills Junior High, and Seaman High School. Blackie coached football, girls basketball, and baseball. The Kansas Coaches Association recognized him for winning more than 400 basketball games. Blackie also had 100 career wins in football and 100 career wins in baseball. He took various baseball and basketball teams to state competition. He retired in 1988 after 38 years. He continued to substitute teach for another 22 years. He was Seaman Teacher of the Year in 1982.
Duane was a member of the KNEA, Moose Lodge 555, and Topeka North Post 400 of the American Legion. He was married to Julia G. Wells on Oct. 11,1952, at Topeka. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2002.
Surviving are his children, Diane L. Melvin of Austin, Texas, Donna D. Kirkwood and husband Chris of Topeka, Douglas G. Melvin and wife Debbie of Denton, and Duane “Scott” Melvin of Noblesville, Ind.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Jan. 31, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka. Interment followed in Rochester Cemetery.

| Obituary- Mercer, Cora CORA MERCER DIES
Services for Miss Cora Mercer, 54, were held in Topeka at 12:30 p.m. Friday in the Wall Diffenderfer Chapel with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. She died unexpectedly Tuesday night at Wichita.
She was born July 2, 1908 at Bazaar in Chase County and lived in Topeka at 1417 College un¬til the death of her father, the late Joseph H. Mercer, Live Stock Commissioner of the State of Kansas.
Since 1937 she made her home alternately with her two sisters who survive her. Mrs. Elreen M. Riley of Wichita and Mrs. James
L. Conley of Delia.
She was a member of the Methodist Church of Rossville.
Besides the two sister she is survived by nephew Joe M. Conley.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Conley were called to Wichita last Wednesday by the death of Mrs. Conley’s sister, Cora Mercer. They returned home Thursday morning.

| Obituary- Mercer, Joseph Joseph Mercer
Joseph H. Mercer, 73, long identified with the livestock industry in Kansas, died Wednesday at a Topeka hospital. He had served as secretary of the Kansas Livestock association 27 years, and since 1909 had been state sanitary livestock commissioner with the exception of two years during the Hodges administration.
Probably no other man was more influential in securing a fair deal for livestock producers from the railroads, the packers and governmental agencies, than was Joe Mercer. As one of his associates said "Joe fought our battles all the way from California to New York, and he usually won his contentions."
Mr. Mercer came to Kansas in 1887 and was first engaged in merchandising at Cottonwood Falls, then went into farming and stock raising, and since 1893 had been a well known figure in agricultural affairs, as well as in politics.
On July 31, 1890, Mr. Mercer married Ula Luna Scribner, who was born at Cottonwood Falls in October, 1871. Four daughters were born to them: Elreen Montez, now Mrs. Lewis William Riley, Topeka; Josephine Mercedes, who died in 1916; Bess, now Mrs. James Conley of Rossville; and Cora, living at the Mercer home. There is one grandson, Joseph Mercer Conley of Rossville. A brother and sister also survive.
The first Mrs. Mercer died in June, 1934. In october, 1935, Mr. Mercer married Mrs. Tillie Stanhope of Eureka, who survives.
Mr. Mercer was a member of the Presbyterian church. Also he was a Scottish Rite Mason, belonged to the Elks lodge and the Modern Woodmen of America.
Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

| Obituary- Mercer, Larry Larry L Mercer
ESKRIDGE- Larry Lee Mercer, 78 of Eskridge, passed away Friday October 14,2016 in Olathe, Kansas.
He was born November 16, 1937 the son of Woodrow and Juanita Prescott Mercer.
Larry attended Eskridge High School and graduated with the Class of 1955. After high school, Larry proudly served in the United States Navy.
Larry was joined in marriage to Shirley Jean Colbert on September 26,1975 in Alma. They enjoyed 32 years of marriage. Shirley preceded Larry in death on November 9,2007. He was also preceded by a step son, Eddie Long and a brother, Jim Mercer.
Larry retired from maintenance department of Dupont and Flexel in Topeka.
He will live on in the hearts of his son, Chad Mercer of Olathe; a step daughter, PameIa Garrison of Wichita; sister, Pat Dennison of Burlingame; brother Monte Mercer of Delia; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside inurnment services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Eskridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at the VanArsdale Funeral Home in Eskridge. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.

| Obituary- Mergenmeier, George B. SFC George B Mergenmeier, Ret., 84, Topeka, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at his home with his spouse by his side.
George was born on July 23, 1936, south of Seneca in Nemaha county, KS to George W. and Stella (Lierz) Mergenmeier.
He graduated from St. Peter and Paul Grade School in Seneca, KS. He worked several jobs as a young man and in March 1955 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he received his GED. He served 2 years with 14 months of that time in Germany. After an honorable discharge, he worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Co. Topeka, KS, from August 1957 to May of 1978.
George joined the Kansas Army National Guard in 1975. August 1980 he was employed full time by the Guard. George went to Germany with the Fort Riley First Infantry Division on Reforger 1979, in January 1979. He attained the rank of Sergeant First Class before his medical discharge in 1986. George was proud to have served in the U.S. Army. He served as a recruiter from 1980 until he retired in 1986 and loved meeting with people at schools, fairs, celebrations, etc. in Kansas to talk about Army opportunities. He drove a truck with a “shooting gallery” that always drew a crowd where he set up.
George belonged to the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Topeka ARC. He served on the Pottawatomie County Planning Board. George was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, St. Marys, and later a member of Christ the King Church in Topeka and St. Stanislaus Church in Rossville, KS. George married Nadine Rilinger on April 12, 1958, at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Corning, KS. They lived in St. Marys, KS. area from 1959 to 1992 when he moved to the Goff area. In 1999 they moved to the Dover area in Shawnee County, and in 2018 they moved to Brewster Place in Topeka.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline in December 1961 and a son James, in February 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother Melvin Mergenmeier, and three sisters, Rosie McMurphy, Marie Catherine Welch and Dorothy Mae Koch.
He is survived by his spouse Nadine of 62 years. His children; Willie (Shirley)Mergenmeier, St. Charles, MO, Jan (Jim) Hinterweger, Lebo, KS, Andy (Becky) Mergenmeier, Montpelier, VA and Sue (Mat) Flach, Paxico, KS, fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Eleanor Rusche, Seneca, and Jeanette Graham, Casper, WY.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. George will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00 until the Rosary at 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 12, 2021 at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys.
Masks will be required at all events.

Richard “Dick” Emery Merrill
Richard Emery Merrill, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City MO.
Richard was born in Waterville KS on June 15, 1937, the son of Paul and Grace Powell Merrill. He married Delores Schilling on June 11, 1961 in the Dover/Willard community, where they lived for the last 51 years. She survives. Richard worked for Santa Fe Railroad, where he retired after 37 years of service.
Richard is also survived by his children, Robert Merrill, Judy Fiegener (Jim), Cherilyn Olmsted (Randy), Susan Allen (Tom), Kevin Merrill (Sally), Charles Merrill (Yvonne); nine grandchildren; his brothers, Morris Merrill (Jean), Martin Merrill (Linda); and his sister, Ann Foster (Don). He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Merrill will lie in state and family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Dover Federated Church. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Dover Cemetery.

Leonard G. Mesmer, 68, passed away on May 5, 2009, in Cotopaxi, Colo.
Leonard was born on Aug. 31, 1940, in Rossville, to Joseph W. and Jessie O. (Dunn) Mesmer. He worked in construction most of his adult life. He came to Colorado in the early 1980s, and then to Cotopaxi in 2000.
On June 29, 2007, Leonard was united in marriage to Sheryl Borm in Rozel, Kan.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Sheryl; children, Cheryl (Stephanie) Mesmer, Texas, David Mesmer of: Cotopaxi; Linda Mesmer, Texas, Jennie (Eric) Isenhart of New Castle, Colo., Michael (Sarah) Mesmer of N.C., Matthew (Lisa)’Mesmer of Fla., Natalie (Bill) Weaver, Missouri, and Michelle (Josh) Burt of Cotopaxi; 16 grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd (Joan) Mesmer of Bonner Springs, KS; and one sister, Shirley (William) Streeter of Topeka, KS; stepchildren, Lisa Borm of Nebraska, Donald (Tammi) Duis of Indiana, Creg (Stephanie) Dius of Arizona, and 16 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Wilma Wilcox.
A memorial service was held Monday, May 11, at the Cody Park Community Church in Westcliffe, Colo.

| Obituary- Metzgar, Andrew ANDREW JACKSON METZGAR
Andrew Metzgar was born in Pleasant Plains, Ill., Feb. 12. 1853 and died very suddenly April 18. He came to Kansas when only a boy and settled at Ozawkie Kansas. On June25, 1875 he was united in marriage to Sarah Katherine Adams. To this union seven children were born, five of whom survive him. Mr. Metzgar united with the Seven Day Adventists when he was 21 years of age and remained a member in good standing until the day of his death.
Mr. Metzgar came to Willard several years ago where he was in the employ of the Rock Island as pumpman. He also worked for some time at blacksmithing. Later he settled on a farm and remained there until last fall when he gave it up on account of his health and moved back to Willard.
Mr. Metzgar was very kind to his family and he had the universal respect of the entire neighborhood. Although his health had been poor he had never been sick enough to be down and continued to be a hardworker. He had often expressed the wish that when he should die it would be quickly but his friends were unprepared for the sudden manner in which he died. He had been out to his son’s farm after a load of hay accompanied by his grandson, and on their way he passed away.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two sons, Manifold and; Charles Metzgar and three daughters; Mrs. Emma Patterson, Mrs. Nellie Smoot and Miss Eva May Metzgar, all of Willard and six grandchildren. Also two sisters, Mrs. Marguerite Dupree of Stillwater, Okla., Mrs. S. D. Bigham, of Topeka and three brothers, G.W., E. D. and F. P. Metzgar, of Ozawkie, Kansas.
Funeral services were hold at the Willard church at 1 o’clock Monday April 20, conducted by Rev. C.E. Roberts of Dyver and the remains taken to Dover for interment.
The family have the sympathy of the entire community.

She was born in Rossville Nov. 15, 1906 and had been a resident of Topeka until last August when she moved to Raytown.
She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. She was married to Ralph Metzler in Topeka in 1934. He survives at the home.

ST. MARYS — Anna Marie Meyer, 84, St. Marys, died Thursday, May 15, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Meyer worked in the laundry department at the St. Marys College for several years, many years ago. She later did ironing in her home.
She was born Oct. 11, 1912, in St. Marys, the daughter of Mike and Anna Homan Fuhr. She was a lifelong St. Marys resident.
Mrs. Meyer was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
She married Fred “Fritz'' Meyer on May 6, 1941, in St. Marys. He died April 25, 1975.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Doty, St. Marys; a son, Tom Meyer, Rossville; two brothers, Mike Fuhr and Nick Fuhr, both of St. Marys; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys. | Obituary- Meyer, J. Henry HENRY MEYER DEAD
J. H. Meyer aged 67 years, 5 months
and 26 days, passed away Wednesday
July 30, at 11 o’clock at his home on
North Main street after a lingering illness dating since January. Mr. Meyer underwent an operation a few months ago and later was confined to his bed when heart complications developed.
He was one of Rossville townships prosperous farmers, having moved to Rossville about three years ago after the sale of his farm interests west of Rossville. A year or so ago and 26 days passed away Wednesday, he invested in lands northeast of Rossville and had plans under way for building new improvements when his health gave way.
Mr. Meyer was born in Damma, Oldenberg, Germany, February 5th, 1862. In the spring of 1881 he came to America and located in the vicinity of St. Marys. On April 17, 1888, he was married to Catherine Seitz, in Immaculate Conception church at St. Marys. Fourteen children were born to this union. Two children died in infancy and the twelve, who with the widow, survive to mourn his loss, are: Mrs. H. C. Germonprez and Mrs. Ernest Reser, St. Marys; Mrs. H. R. Immenschuh, Silver Lake; Mrs. E. F. Gillgannon, Delia; Misses Catherine Leona, William and Clarence of Rossville; J. C. Meyer and J. B. Meyer, Manhattan; Mrs. Gleason and Miss Rose Meyer, Topeka. There are two sisters and one brother residing in Germany.
The funeral mass will be sung in Immaculate Conception church at St. Marys, Friday at 10 o’clock and the body interred in the St. Marys Catholic cemetery.
The pall bearers will be Messrs. S R. Santee, Achille Ronsse, Julius Immenschuh, Joseph Lenherr, T. J Byrnes and Joe Reding.

ST. MARYS — Clarence W. "Bill" Meyer Jr., 64, St. Marys, died Monday, Jan. 24, 1994, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Meyer was a tire builder 28 years for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. of Topeka. He retired in 1983. He served with the 174th Military Police Battalion, Kansas National Guard, at St. Marys and was activated during the Korean War.
He was born Sept. 25, 1929, at Rossville, the son of Clarence W. Meyer Sr., and LaVerne Irene Tucker Meyer.
Mr. Meyer was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 657, was Cubmaster of Pack No. 128 from 1959 to 1961, and served on the St. Marys Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals, all in St. Marys. He also was a member of Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville.
He was married to Helen A. Vowells Sept. 25, 1950, at St. Marys. She
survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Helen Graham, St. Marys, and Jeannie Johnson, Olsburg; a son, Cliff Meyer, Wamego; his mother, LaVerne Irene Meyer, St. Marys; and six grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at St. Marys. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Countryside United Methodist Church for Ruby Mae Binger Meyer, 70, Topeka, who died Saturday, Nov. 6,1999, shortly after arrival at a Topeka hospital.
She was born May 9, 1929, in Tulare, S.D., to Clarence and Iona Root Binger. She spent her early life in South Dakota. She moved to Rossville in 1972 and to Topeka in 1983.
She was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Topeka Woman’s Club, Arab Shrine Nobelles and the Christian Children’s Fund. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Women’s Guild at the church and Order of Eastern Star, all in Tulare, S.D. She was a graduate of the Flo V. Menninger Bible Study course.
She married Eugene H. Meyer on June 6, 1948, in Tulare, S.D. He died June 24,1988. Daughters Diane Meyer and Rhonda Meyer died in infancy.
Survivors include two sons, Vaughn H. Meyer, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Keith C. Meyer, Rossville; four daughters, Debora K. Pentecost, Lawrence, Joyce M. Buchholz, Manhattan, and Janice J. Sharp and Faye R. Miller, both in Rossville; a brother, Harvey C. Binger, Britton, S.D.; four sisters, Alice MacNeill and Della Belle Binger, both in Tulare, S.D., Maxine Boyd, Williams Bay, Wis. and Marlene Walton, Carter Lake, Iowa; and 18 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ in Tulare, S.D. Burial will be in St. John’s Church Cemetery in Tulare, S.D. Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Coleman-Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield, S.D. Parker-Price Mortuary is in charge of Topeka arrangements.

Clarence W. Meyer, 86, St. Marys, died Monday, April 6, 1992, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka.
Mr. Meyer farmed in the Sandy Hook area until he retired in 1969. He moved to St. Marys in 1964, because of ill health.
He was born January 4, 1906, north of St. Marys, the son of John Henry and Catherine Seitz Meyer. Mr. Meyer was the last of 14 children.
He graduated from St. Marys Grade School and attended high school at St Mary’s College.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #657, St. Marys, Past President of Pottawatomie County Farmers Union, Past member for many years of the Tri-County Drainage Board, served on the Board of Directors for Farmers Union Co-operative Business Association, St. Marys.
He married Laverne Irene Tucker on May 25, 1928 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Marys. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Clarence W. “Bill” Meyer, St. Marys; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Meyer will lie in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday (today) at Verschelden Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

VALLEY FALLS - Mrs. Verna L. Meyer, 89, Valley Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, at a Winchester hospital where she was admitted Monday. She was in failing health the past five years.
She was born Dec. 4, 1894, at Ozawkie, the daughter of Jake and Kate Eshom Ammen.
Mrs. Meyer was a member of the United Methodist Church and a former member of the auxiliary to Grahem-Herbers Post No. 3084 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, both at Valley Falls.
She was married to Louis A. Meyer Feb. 25, 1913, at Ozawkie. They farmed in the Ozawkie, Oskaloosa and McLouth communities until they moved to Valley Falls in 1948. He died Aug. 12, 1950. A son, Eugene Meyer, died June 3, 1972.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Vera Adams, Delia, Mrs. Maxine Boyd, Route 3, Leavenworth, and Mrs. Betty Clark, Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, Everett Meyer, Kansas City, Mo., and Warren Meyer, Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Anna Cunning, Meriden; 10 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Nellis-Hagge Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will be in Valley Falls Cemetery. Mrs. Meyer will lie in state after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday. Betty Jo Michael, 91, Topeka, died April 29, 2014. She was born Jan. 6,1923, in Topeka, to Ella Mae (Sieber) and Frank William Hess.
Betty graduated from Seaman High School in 1941. She worked at Josten’s American Yearbook for 20 years before retiring. She played for the Ed Marling’s Chesney Women’s softball team. She was a member of Northland Christian Church. Betty volunteered for Stormont-Vail NICU, rocking newborn babies. She delivered Meals On Wheels.
Betty was married to Harold A. Michael in a triple wedding on Jan. 1,1942. The three grooms — Harold, Robert Hess, and Bud Head — were preparing to leave for military service in World War II. Harold preceded her in death on May 8, 1988. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Francis “Frannie” Whitehead and Faye Stewart; two brothers, Robert Hess and Frank “Pete” Hess Jr.; and great-granddaughter Shawndy Hogue.
Surviving are a sister, Bonnie Tice; daughter, Sandy Darnall of Topeka; sons, Harold Joe Michael and wife Deidre, and Tom Michael and wife Jo, all of Silver Lake; six grandchildren, Deborah "Debbie” Harman, Shelly Lenczewski, Paul Lenczewski, Megan Walters, Garrett Michael, and Jenna Fox; nine great-grandchildren, Brittany Wessels, Connor Harman, Jordan Lenzcewski, Randy Hogue, Kaylee Hogue, Andrew Hogue, Payton Michael, Preston Michael, and Paxton Michael; and two great-great-grandchildren, Ali Hogue and Lily Hogue.

ROSSVILLE- Jessie Clay Mick, 30, of Rossville, KS, formerly of Holton, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at his home surrounded his family; after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 19, 1985 in Onaga, the son of Dennis Adair Mick and Patrick David and Mary Ruth (Noland) Johnson.
Jessie attended Central School in Holton. He also attended Rossville Grade School and graduated from Rossville High School in 2003. He attended Tare during the day, from age 16 to 26, he then moved to supportive living day service from age 16 to 28. Jessie had worked for Tarc-Ties doing general duties.
Jessie attended Rossville United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Special Olympics, participating in bowling and track.
Survivors include his father and mother, Patrick and Mary Johnson of Rossville; a sister, Kelly Mick of Wichita; 2 brothers, Daniel Johnson (Amber) and Jared Johnson (Lannie) both of Topeka; paternal grandparents, Dean and Mary Mick of Holton and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Jessie Clay Mick, 30, of Rossville, KS, formerly of Holton, passed away Sunday, September 13,2015 at his home surrounded by his family; after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 19, 1985 in Onaga, the son of Dennis Adair Mick and Patrick David and Mary Ruth (Noland) Johnson.
Jessie attended Central School in Holton. He also attended Rossville
Grade School and graduated from Rossville High School in 2003. He attended Tare during the day, from age 16 to 26, he then moved to supportive living day service from age 16 to 28. Jessie had worked for Tarc-Ties doing general duties.
Jessie attended Rossville United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Special Olympics, participating in bowling and track.
Survivors include his father and mother, Patrick and Mary Johnson of Rossville; a sister, Kelly Mick of Wichita; 2 brothers, Daniel Johnson (Amber) and Jared Johnson (Lannie) both of Topeka; paternal grandparents, Dean and Mary Mick of Holton and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Patricia "Pat" A. Mick, age 85, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the K.U. Med Center in Kansas City. Pat was born August 11, 1933 in Topeka the daughter of Vern and Freda (Black) Tutt. Pat graduated from Topeka High School in 1951. She married Kenneth Mick October 7, 1962 in Falls City, NE.
Pat loved children and volunteered with the MOPS program at Northland Christian Church and taught Sunday School at Countryside Christian Church before that. She had worked at the Eakes Grocery Store in Oakland. She is survived by her husband of over 56 years, Kenneth; a son, Ron (Brenda) Mick of Rossville; a daughter, Tanya Nestler of Hillsboro, Ohio; three grandchildren, Spencer, Mallory and Madelyn and one great grandson, Jaxon. Pat was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bob Nestler. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. She will lie in state Wednesday from noon - 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Sandra “Sandy” Irene Middleton, 56, joined family and friends in heaven on March 2, 2012, after losing her battle with cancer at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born on Jan. 20,1956, the daughter of William S. and Ida E. Windsberg Middleton in Kansas City, Mo. Sandy was raised in the Garden City, Mo., area, and in 1974 graduated from Warsaw (Mo.) High School. She attended Sedalia Community College. Sandy moved to Kansas and started her 30-year career with Jeffries Energy Center in 1979, completing her chemist associate’s degree with Westar Energy. Sandy was a Local 304 member for 34 years.
Sandy enjoyed the past 30 years as a resident of St. Marys and was a longtime member of St. Marys United Methodist Church. She recently celebrated 31 years of sobriety as a member of AA and NA. She was a member of the American Legion Riders (Jimmie Lillard Post 31) and the Patriot Guard in Rossville.
She was appreciated for her love of gardening, fireworks, and was an avid Harley cyclist. She loved horses, scuba diving, and anything that brought adventure into her life. Family and friends remember her for having a compassionate heart and never knowing a stranger.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Lonnie, Bruce, Brad, and Billie Middleton, uncle Dewey Plank, and niece Kimberly Lynn Flippen.
She is survived by her sister, Sonya Idene Middleton Cardinal of Silver Lake; her nephew, C.J. Fields of Gilbert, Ariz.; a niece, Cherise Danielle Middleton Riccomini of Emmett; two aunts, Virginia B. Middleton Plank of Mesa, Ariz., and Priscilla A. Middleton Darling of Peculiar, Mo. She is also survived by her boyfriend, Scott Hanner of St. Marys.

John Leslie Milbradt, 85, Topeka, died Wednesday, Dec. 16,1998, at a Topeka nursing home.
Mr. Milbradt was a salt miner and had worked for the Independent Salt Co. at Kanopolis for 40 years before he retired. He and his wife later owned and operated the Ellsworth Flower and Gift Shop and Irene’s From Dreams to Teens Clothing Store, both in Ellsworth. He and his wife also owned and operated the Ramada Inn Gift shop in Topeka for six years.
He was born Jan, 24, 1913, in Ellsworth County, the son of Amel and Pearl Bryan Milbradt. He was graduated from Kanopolis High School, and he moved to Topeka from Ellsworth in 1985.
Mr. Milbradt was a member of the Ellsworth Presbyterian Church.
He was married to Irene Jantz on Aug. 7, 1946. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Bush, Rossville, Shelley Bryan, Topeka, and JoAnn Unruh, Sharon Springs; two brothers, Joe Milbradt, Salina, and Eugene Milbradt, Alexandria, Va.; two sisters, Margaret Lytle, Blue Springs, Neb., and Patricia Bray, in Texas; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Rossville Christian Church in Rossville. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Milbradt will lie in state after 1 p.m. today at Parker-Price Mortuary where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Alice Mileham, 75, a Topeka resident for thirty-five years, died Monday, September 21, in Winslow, Arizona, where she was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Edna Welch. The body was brought to Topeka for funeral services Friday afternoon at the Church of the Assumption. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
Mrs. Mileham was born in Detroit, Mich., in 1861, came to Rossville, with her family when a child where she lived for many years before her removal to Topeka.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edna Welch, Winslow, Ariz., Mrs. Virginia Hanson, Los Angeles, Calif.; two sons Harry, of Ashfort, Ariz., and Benjamin C. Mileham of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Miss Frances DeGraff, Rossville; and three brothers, Joseph, George and William DeGraff all of Rossville.

Mrs. Alice Mileham Passed Away Monday
Mrs. Alice Mileham, visiting at Winslow, Ariz., passed away Monday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edna Welch. She has been in Winslow just four weeks to the day. Death resulted following a lingering illness. For the past two years Mrs. Mileham has been confined at the home of her brother, William DeGraff, suffering from heart trouble.
Funeral services will be from the Assumption church in Topeka, tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial in Mount Calvary cemetery.

He was married to Nellie Reboul in 1950 at flagstaff, Ariz. She survives, a daughter, Mrs. Mora Lee Wade, died in 1968.
Other survivors include a son, Benjamin D. Mileham, Winslow, Ariz.; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at St. Marys. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Verschelden Funeral Home at St. Marys.

dies in Arizona
Steven Henry (Harry) Mileham, 65, passed away November 29, in Sedona, Arizona. He was born July 21, 1889.
Surviving him are his wife, Anna, and five children: his oldest son Elwood, two daughters, Heloise and Jeanette, a son Richard who is a major in the Air Corps stationed in Germany, and his youngest son Robert Eugene.
Mrs. V. L. Welch of Rossville is his sister and he is also survived by one brother, Benjamin C. Mileham.
Burial was in Winslow, Arizona, on Friday, December 3.
As a young boy he and his family lived in the home now owned by Mrs. Anna Lemon. Harry Mileham will be remembered by many Rossville people as he spent part of his life here, both as a child and in later years.

Fern Adele Miles, 80, Meriden, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at a Topeka hospital.
She was born April 7, 1920, in Rossville, the daughter of Baxter Newton and Alice Faye Worthington Wilder.
She graduated from Silver Lake High School and Stewart’s Beauty Academy of Topeka. She was employed as an accountant by Pelletier’s Department Store, Ripley’s Cleaners, and for 25 years, the City of Topeka Finance Department, until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Meriden, and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Friendly Matrons, and the Country Quilters.
On October 5,1940, she married Merl E. Miles in Kansas City, KS. He died on September 28, 1983.
Survivors include one son, Larry Miles, Meriden; a grandson and granddaughter.
Her service was at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Meriden United Methodist Church. Burial was in Meriden Cemetery. A family visitation was held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Parker-Price Mortuary.

Harry B. Miles, 72, Rossville, died Nov. 12 in a Topeka hospital after an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 20, 1898, at Atchison, and had been a resident of Rossville 11 years, moving there from Topeka.
Mr. Miles was a businessman in Marshall County, retiring in 1956. He was a veteran of World War I; a member of the Rossville Christian Church; and the American Legion Post of Rossville.
He was married in 1922 to1 Rosella Watson, who survives, at the home.
Other survivors include a daughter: Mrs. Betty Holly, of Route 9, Topeka; a brother: Col. Jack Miles, U.S. Marine Corps, Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Interment was made in the Rossville Cemetery.

| Obituary- Miles, Minnie MRS. M. L. MILES DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Fort Lauderdale, Fla., July 8.— Mrs. Minnie L. Miles, 80, of 1742 N. E. Tenth street, died today after a long illness. Mrs. Miles was a resident of this city for 10 years.
Minna Louisa England was born in Sweden, April 30, 1853. She came to America with her parents in 1863, settling northeast of Osborn, Mo., where she resided until her marriage to Sylvester Hugh Miles, July 4, 1876. In the year 1881 they moved to Rossville, Kansas, where they both took an active part in church and civic affairs.
Mr. Miles passed away Nov. 13, 1910. A few years later Mrs. Miles moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., making her home with her two daughters until her death July 8, 1933.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs. O.A. Zickefoose and Mrs. C. E. Fritz, one granddaughter, Miss Evelyn Fritz of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., two brothers, Dr. J. D. England, Axtell, Neb., T. A. England Osborn, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. Elma Hankins, Osborn, Mo.
Mrs. Miles joined the Lutheran church at the age of 12, later uniting with the Methodist church at Rossville, Kansas.
The funeral services were conducted at 4 p. m. Monday, July 10, at the Fairchild Funeral Home, Rev. James W. Marlin, pastor of Park Temple Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.

ROSSVILLE — Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Christian Church in Rossville for Howard E. Millar, 75, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Rossville, who died Friday, Aug. 27, 1993, at a Mesa hospital.
Mr. Millar owned and operated a restaurant in Maple Hill and later owned and operated the Millar Restaurant in Rossville from 1973 to 1982.
He had been a driver for Trailways bus lines and was a restaurant cook several years. He later managed Nickerson Farms restaurants in several states and managed the XIT restaurant at the Maple Hill exit on Interstate 70.
He was born May 21, 1918, in West Virginia, the son of Howard Alexander and Edna Mae Dawson Millar. He lived Arizona the past eight years.
Mr. Millar was a member of the Moose Lodge in Buckhannon, W.Va., and the Lions Club in Maple Hill.
He was married to Stella Marley July 24, 1956, in Sutton, W.Va. She survives. A daughter, Betty Millar, and a son, Howard E. Millar, Jr., pre¬ceded him in death.
Other survivors include two sons, Allen Millar and Donald Millar, both of Warren, Ohio; four daughters. Patricia McNear, Oklahoma City, Janet Watt, Warren, Ohio, Veronica Decker, Mesa, Ariz., and Barbara Hamm, Mulberry; a brother, LeRoy Millar, St. Joseph, Mo., a sister, Virginia Madeline Ramsey, Raytown, Mo.; and 13 grandchildren.
Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Millar will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
